"Listen, uh, that's not gonna work for me". - Billi⠀
Who else gets tired of the pet hair vacuums never puck up and ends up squeegeeing their carpet? Just me?⠀
.⠀
There are so many things about this interaction that I love! The question (what in the world are you doing human??), the repetition (coming back to play!), answering my question, how engaged she is, and of course the use of mad when she doesn't get her way 😂⠀
.⠀
Billi is a female domestic shorthair, she's 12 years old, her favorite word is mad. Inspiration from Hunger4Words (check her out on IG).

Billi, your hair gets everywhere. Later, ok? Later. B: Hmm? What? K: Yeah. I'm cleaning, Billi. B: (accidental press?) Hmmm? K: Is it weird? What is it? (shows the squeegee with hair) B: Billi back K: Back? Billi's back! Does Billi's back want pets? Or does Billi's back hurt? B: No K: No? You don't like this? (3 minutes later) B: Mad K: I'm coming! K: Ok. I'm done cleaning! All done! What does Billi want? B: Want play play (comes up to pet mom) B: Play food K: Play food? Hehehe. Can we play something else beside food? Can we play fan toy? Play fan toy hmmm? Do you wanna play fan toy? B: Where? K: Umm, here B: Pets K: Where pets? Pets can be right here. But do you wanna play fan toy? Play fan toy hmm? B: Outside That's so remarkably coherent!!! I wonder if Billi got mad because Kendra maybe didn't understand her answer about it being Billi back (her hair). But maybe it was just the wait and not doing what she wanted heh. I wonder if Billi remembers playing fan toy somewhere else, in the old apartment where it was on the fan? Maybe that was a different level of fan toy play. That could be another meaning of "outside" Did you play fan toy outside and was she happy? Sooo cute

  • @TieDyeVikki

    @TieDyeVikki

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, this whole exchange was quite remarkable. I think you're right that "Billi back" meant "my fur"... after all, how else was she supposed to answer the question without a fur/hair button? She's gotta work with what she's got, and it was an impressive workaround, but Mom didn't even notice! When Mom suggested the fan toy, if you notice, Billi looks around before she says "where", so I thought she meant "where is it?", not "where can we play with it?" I guess the interpretation could depend on if the fan toy was already in her sight, but if it wasn't, I'd say the former is the more likely question. I'm glad I randomly picked this video to re-watch, as it's a good one to refer to the close-minded doubters. Of course it still wouldn't "prove" anything to them, as they seem incapable of using their own intuition in such matters.

    It is very much possible Billie is using "back" to mean her fur as well. If you remove the wait times in between button presses, we get this conversation: Mom: "What is it?" *shows Billie a squeegee with her own fur* Billie: "Billie. Back." Mom: ""Back? Billie back? Does Billie back want pets? Or does Billie back hurt?" Billie: "No." I believe she was answering your question of "What is it?" and showed her the fur, and she answered it was Billie's back (her fur). And when you misconstrued her meaning, she said "no".

    This is the first video I've seen where Billie gave a very clear no skepticism needed answer to a question What Billi want Want play. It's also very deliberate since want was far from play. She also seems to sometimes get certain things mixed up, which given her age and literally speaking a language, I don't blame her. She also seems to have to think a lot while deciding what to say and how to say it. Repetition has definitely payed off with her really getting the meaning of words. A word like want is much more impressive than play and food, because she understands it as a prerequisite to a thing that she desires. She might not always do it, as I think she tries to choose the easiest most simple ways to speak, which seems to fit with cat language as we know it, Simply stating "play, food, mad" etc are pretty clear by themselves. So it's cool to see her trying to formulate what she wants to indicate. She also may on some days just find it more troublesome and want to press any button and have someone know what she wants with out picking the right one. So her tail gets raring like a little motor as she tries to think of how to better say what she's trying to convey. It's really cute and endlessly fascinating because cats are pretty far from dogs in a lot of ways, let alone elephants, dolphins and apes which we all know seem to be pretty intelligent and learn forms of communication.
