It is time for the newest instalment in that beloved cinematic automotive KZread experience where we film practical cars that can be bought for less than £1,000 in a manner befitting of their inexpensive value! This may go horribly wrong (and frequently does)...
This time, as we test a 2013 Peugeot 107 1.0 Active, we point out a missing rev counter, use the single passenger window switch, fiddle around in the boot and drone on about very little of any importance at all. Nothing untoward, then...

Update on my previous comment: I bought a 2013 107 this week & I absolutely love it. It's a cracking little car. I've never driven a city car before & I was worried it was going to be slower than a sedated sloth, painfully uncomfortable and noisier than an angry Dalek in a metal shed but my fears have been erased. Noise? Yes it's noisier than my previous cars and initially the engine sounds rough but it's actually got a great engine note. It's a throaty little thing & it has bags of character. It's not slow. I assume the people who say they are slow either drive sub 6 second 0-60 cars or they don't know how to drive. My 107 actually pulls at the leash. It's brisk and around town it's like a rat up a drainpipe. There's zero torque which means you have to work the gears. You're constantly dropping down but that adds to the fun. Work the gearbox and they're spritely little things. Motorway journeys are fine. No it's not as quiet as a Lexus but why would anyone expect it to be? The power on motorways is fine too. I didn't have any problem at all keeping up or passing slower vehicles. I didn't go above 80mph and I suspect it'll struggle after 85mph but why would I care about that when the speed limit is 70mph? The thing is, you have to judge it by what it is. I don't hear people complaining that Ferraris are crap driving through muddy fields so why do people complain that the 107 feels like a city car? My only disappointment is the handling on open roads. It's woolly and vague. It doesn't have anywhere near the precision of my old Mazda 3. It's a shame but that doesn't spoil the fun I'm having. It's a smashing little motor. My advice to potential buyers is accept it for what it is, use the gears and have fun. I can't think of many other cars that offer the same ability for such a small amount of money.

Great review, Sir . Excellent little cars, I really like the shear honesty of them , doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t.

Yes, they designed them to appeal to a certain type of customer, and they certainly succeeded.
I've owned a 58 Aygo Platinum for a couple of years and it still makes me smile. Added some sound deadening and it really improved things. They drive like a half scale hot hatch and can be parked in hilariously small gaps.

I suppose these cars are closest in spirit to the really basic things that were around in the late 1980s and 1990s. I am a big fan of Austin and MG Metros, for example.

@@JoJanDiezel dynamat or similar inside the doors, on floor panels and in the boot. Foam sheets inside the door trims too. Front subframe brace improves steering and ride a lot too. Switched from 155/65 to 165/60 tyres for a little more footprint.
I own the Citreon C1 as a second car little runaround .Absolutely love it.Basic cheap and surprising fun to drive.I will pass it on to my daughter when she passes her driving test.It's an ideal first car.

I personally prefer the MG3 we used to have (it was in the second video ever on the channel), but given these cost so little to run, and are so easy to park, I can see why people like them.
What's amazing about these cars is that they have a spare wheel. I hate the thought of not having a spare so well done Aygo/C1 and 107. If a tiny car like this car carry one what's the excuse from those that don't?
@lloydvehicleconsulting
Жыл бұрын
Yes, they do! The boot is absolutely tiny, but they managed to squeeze one in... Thank you very much indeed for watching!
I've decided to buy one of these. Most of my driving is around town and I do 100 miles a week. I worked out that if I swap my automatic Corolla for an Aygo/C1/107 it'll save me at least £100 a month in road tax and fuel. And that's not all because I'll save on parts. Tyres are £20 cheaper (per tyre) than my Corolla and on it goes. I reckon that by changing to one of these I'll effectively be giving myself a £1500 to £2000 annual pay rise.

They really don't cost a lot money to run if you can find one in good condition. They aren't the most refined cars, but then they don't need to be. Automatic cars seem to be very much in demand at the moment too.
Thank you for this video. I had absolutely no idea of this car existing, or of any shared model between Toyota, Peugeot and Citroen. It almost goes back to an age when all three makes thrived on producing simple little cars like this!

There is a lot of choice out there, and so this is not the only alternative by any means, but they have become really popular these days. That keeps prices relatively high, especially for the dreadful robotised manual gearbox versions, which I had the misfortune of trying in December... Welcome to the world of No Budget Reviews!
Brilliant little review Sir, my mate with the Micra 160SR and Impul March had three of the Aygo Version, never let him down and he quite liked them for just commuting to work and back. I actually considered the C1 many years ago to replace my unrealible K12 Micra but plumped for a Focus Instead.

Yes, people probably swear by these, they are stupidly cheap to run. Not quite my sort of thing, but I can understand the appeal of them. For a daily trip of only a few miles, I am sure that one of these would fine.

Mechanically these cars are bulletproof with basic maintenance, my 2007 aygo has done 130k miles and is totally solid, the main thing that can go is bodywork rust under sillls / back wheel arches 🙏

There was a forbidden fuel version available on the C1 or Aygo but not in the 107, Personally it was pointless, less horsepower, not much gain in economy, no benefits in road tax, still £20. It was a PSA 1.4 4 cylinder unit, it's probably heavier than the Toyota unit.

Do not buy the automatic variant, it is absolutely terrible.
Good little car. Light, easy to park and enjoyable to drive. Buying new I would always go for a Kia Picanto or Suzuki Celerio which are both much more accommodating and useful with winding rear windows. Buying used the 107, C1 and Aygo make much more sense. The interior is nice though. The later 2019 or later versions are much better cars.
@lloydvehicleconsulting

They aren't especially nice to drive (there is not much sound deadening, and I don't particular like the gearchange), but these are so cheap to insure, so inexpensive to service and so economical that it would be silly to overlook these as a cost-effective used car, especially as a first or second car.
I have a 2011 Citroen C1 VT. Absolute bottom of the range! Not even electric windows in the front. Windey "keep fit" windows. No RPM gauge. Oddly, it does have Aircon. Must have been bought as an extra. I love the car all the more for it's simplicity. In fact, I would have preferred it without power steering, as the steering gets very light at high speed. Early 2005-2006 base models had no power steering. Cracking little cars. Drives like new. Loud but great handling and 60mpg.

Great little car. I've got a 62 plate with 41k on the clock. Only use it to tow behind my motorhome. Don't even know it's there. Ideal little run around as all my journeys are short distance. Very economical too. Only filled it up twice in 2 years, and £0 road tax!

Hi , great reviews as always but I would like to point out that just because a car is in a low insurance group doesn't mean it will be cheap to insure, all the companies will class the risk on a car going by the number of claims. all reviews make this mistake, I Currently drive a 1250cc fiesta and looked at changing to an aygo but insurance would have been £130 a year more, it was also more expensive for the C1 at around £100 more. People need to do an insurance check before buying a particular car and not go by groupings to avoid any nasty surprises.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
10 ай бұрын
The worst one is the Corsa, which can be very expensive to insure because so many of them are owned by first time drives, who tend to get involved in a fair few accidents, sadly.
I was looking at one of these as only £2 grand for one on autotrader with 70K on the clock and from what someone told me the engines are bulletproof in these the C1 and Aygos , just got to be careful of the clutch as they go on them often.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
Жыл бұрын
The clutches actually aren't that expensive if they do go, but clearly it is best to get one with a clutch that works. The engines do tend to quite reliable, but they can go wrong if they are neglected and/or have done very high mileage.
@gumbo7215
Жыл бұрын
Clutches fail on all cars. They're consumable parts. The beauty is a new clutch on a C1/Aygo/107 will be around £200 - £250 fitted. In relative terms that's cheap. On something like a 5 series BMW you'll be looking at anything between £500 & £1200.

@@gumbo7215 Ah but if that's true how come my 2007 Colt which has now done 130, thousand miles is still on original clutch and not slipping? I think Its a combination of quality parts as it has a Sachs clutch kit and also not riding the clutch etc
