He is a more than worthy holder of his title and office, which he executes with verve and grace. This sets him apart from most politicians worldwide in these sad times we're living in presently. The existence of an officially appointed Chief Mouser is exactly the kind of eccentricity that the friends of Britain all over the world appreciate about your nation.

I have good news for you then. Since Larry is the Chief Mouser, it comes with a few perks. It is the longest serving government official in UK parliament. The title is legitimate, which makes Larry an official civil servant to the cabinet office. Which means, that Larry the cat is NOT considered property of the Prime Minister of the UK. And it can't be voted out either. A cat can be the Chief Mouser for the entire duration of its natural born life, and as a government official, can retire whenever it's deemed too sick, too old, or dies. Another cat can be given the honorary title but it's extremely rare. Another fun fact, the Chief Mouser has no direct superior to answer to. And since it can't be voted out, it can do whatever it wants whenever it wants.

@@apollonia6656 The bipedals in his department wouldn't survive a month without the constant supervision of His Catsellence. But maybe he could split time between 10 Downing and an appropriate country estate in the Cotswolds for recreational hunting of rural rodents. In an emergency, like red carpet duties on short notice, Will & Kate would have to take the cab in order to make their heli available for Britain's No 1 VIC (very important cat). All have to bring small sacrifices for the nation's well being.

My understanding is, he does have a cat door on the back side of the house. The front door is the formal entrance and there's a doorman and/or security personnel there to open/hold the door for Larry. ;)

Our car used to bring us presents from the huge shed and garden we had at the time: birds, rats and mice. She used to come in the kitchen and with great pride drop a dead beauty at our feet 😅 , but was greatly offended when we removed her present outside ! She passed away at the age of sixteen and a half 😥

Anche la mia gattina nera ha 17 anni e ogni tanto si ammala perché sente il peso dei suoi anni. Mi ha tenuto compagnia per tutti questi anni lei non è una gatta governativa ma una cara gattina casalinga molto tranquilla e dolce. We all know, who the real power in 10 Downing Street is. The others are merely tolerated guests!

I worry with Larry getting up there in age and slowing down that going outside a fox could get him, like the one that tried a few years ago. Had that fox not been emaciated but healthy he very well could have taken Larry. I hate to see him go but it's time for Larry to retire and become a full time indoor cat.

His catsellence, the most honourable Chief Mouser has - at his blessed age - survived countless Prime Ministers and an eternal monarch. My best guess: shortly before his 30th birthday he'll witness the coronation of king William V, receive his third monarch's congratulations at his time in office, and retire afterwards. 🎶 "Ruled, Britannia - Britannia, ruled by cats, Britons nevernevernever will eat rats..." I love across the pond in NYC but I love Larry and check up on him frequently. Got to be something in the water over there and royalty lived such long lives; 17 is quite the accomplishment considering the prime ministers he's had in his home. Not to mention visits from Trump. I don't think he'd be happy if he retired, I think he loves the cameras and his fans. Maybe at 20, he'll opt out of the spotlight. Long live Larry. ❤
