If you weld the main seam joints like factory they are all brazed (Bronze welded with gas plant) and therefore keep the seam line rather than mig weld and fudge the line with a grinder wheel. I have seen panel shops fill in the drill holes and then re-spot weld in the same place.

Yep I know they are bronze brazed. I do not have that skill and did not want to take my chances messing it up so mig welding was the way to go here.

Is it legal in your country to apply the VIN number yourself? Do I need to get a certificate or something else after these works? Thank you in advance for your comments.

So sad to see you welded the rear body panel wrong :( There is supposed to a visible line underneath the taillight that ''separete the rear panel from the fenders. This have you now welded shut, so now you stand 20 meter away from the car and see that the rear panel has been changed :(

You can still make that lone at body shop

I know all about that line don’t worry it will remain. You can make it with something as simple as a dremel cut off wheel before paint. I wonder, explain to me how you would weld it whilst maintaining that line without correcting it later?

@@Garageaholic when quarters are replaced that area is spot welded as the rear panel and quarter panel have two pieces that sandwich together underneath the tail light inside the car, hard to explain but basically the rear panel and quarter panel have both have a tab that turns 90 degree inwards that is then spot welded together, that’s why that line exists in the first place

Can you really stamp your own VIN in the US ? In the UK I believe you wouldn't be able to buy that scuttle without proof of ownership/VIN, which BMW then stamp and supply on a panel. In the UK that VIN stamp would be seen as likely being a stolen or cloned car

Not sure exactly the issue - I did not change the VIN. I replaced a body panel with an OE panel that happened to have the VIN stamped on it. Granted- the stamping is not OEM - it's close and I did not have the dies to stamp the BMW insignia on it, so a keen observer will notice that this is a replacement panel anyway. And when/if this gets sold one day, the proof of the replacement is in the videos themselves. So if questioned by the buyer, no theft would be suspected upon observation of the stamping, since proof would be in the meticulous documentation of the build. Good comment! VIN work on a rare car like an E30 M3 is always a good debate!

With all due respect, this is a hell of a job. you can't do that m3. so you can't put a number on it. so you can’t weld seams that were soldered with brass. Do not apply joint sealant to bare metal. in this video everything that can not be done with a good car. fans and masters watch such videos with tears. open KZread and see how the body is restored.

Rear panel should be brazed this is to stop corrosion ...and where the scuttle panel joins the screen pillar and why don't you have a spot welder ??? very poor attempt at panel replacement !!!!!!!
