Niu NGT - 1000 Miles Electric Moped UK Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I have owned my Niu NGT electric moped for a few months now allowing me to reflect on the pros and cons. So far I absolutely love it and there are lots of reasons to purchase one. That said, I still think there is room for improvement and provide some ideas of how this might be achieved. I have clocked up 1000 miles on the Niu NGT and feel ready to share my ideas for this and similar electric mopeds.

hey , great review by the way, im thinking of purchasing this bike in the summertime for deliveries and city commuting, need around 80km of city range a day, wondering if you think this is the best bang for your buck in terms of "longer range" escooters, thanks

eli At the moment this is the one that ticked all the boxes for me. Just to prewarned I’m planning to use mine for deliveries at some point but getting Zego insurance is a non-starter (not sure if you are in UK). Think food/delivery insurance was about 1500 a year through my main insurer.

Nice review.. I have one, and have a different mindset on it. (Live in the Netherlands so only summers have a few weeks of actual bike weather as well) For one, I have been commuting on motorcycles for years (to work, shopping, various little trips and such) and in November 2019 bought me the NIU NGT. For me the main issue is the speed, since I've been used to hopping onto the motorway at every chance, this thing with its top speed of 45, not so much. So that had me for a few weeks, but I have relaxed into this little thing, got me a 29 liter topcase on the back and a high windscreen up front, I am now pretty much always out of the wind, and I must say that is a relief. With most my riding now in urban settings, I get nearly 60 miles out of the batteries (Which suits me just fine for daily commutes), -but I keep the charger with me as it is quite sturdy. (it is under the seat battery, securely resting on some bubble wrap, just in case)- (had this mistaken for my moped, I have it in the topcase) So if I find me a 230V outlet during the ride, I have a means of getting some extra miles on the trip. But I love the fact I can ride 60 miles for 75 eurocents (0.65 GBP) compared to the gas from my car. (is 0.23 eurocents (0.20 GBP) per kWh here) Which is now basically 1.80 euros (1.53 GBP) per liter, so figuring on 5 liters for that 60 miles, makes: 9.00 euros (7.76GBP) per 60 miles. No road tax either, no purchase tax (we have that extra on fossil fuel vehicles), but insurance is easy here, insurance companies here just assume it is the same as a 125cc motorcycle, and with my bike history only pay 14 euros (11.93GBP) per month on that, so I am laughing all the way as well in comparisson from what I had. Lastly, since I have been a motorcyclist for years, the protective suit and such has been a part of my daily routine, I hadn't really thought on the time spent putting that on and off on locations, due to it having become second nature. Thanks for reminding me. Sorry for the long post, but you had me intrigued with your review.

Excellent review! Didn't realize where this was until you nearly drove past my house 🤪. Just got timing chain rattle on my car and quoted BIG money for the repair, was hoping swapping for something similar to your bike. However the killer is insurance, currently paying less than 200 pound fully comp for the car and a thousand plus is crazy! All in all though a really great video and product, shame about cash cow of a country and excessive insurance costs. Cheers 😉✌️

He bought a full on termal heating jacket, jeans and handgloves running on batteries. His word on it freaking hot like riding in July/august. Now here in Holland the roads during freezing conditions are sprayed with salt and there is the drawback.....rusting like hellfire, To overcome all that, spray the underside and all the nuts and bolds, spings with chainsaw oil and try to miss the disc breaks :0 Do this and in spring every little part of the Niu is saved! Take good mate Cheers

You can ride an electric NIU, the models that do 28-30mph (moped) on a full driving license without L plates or a CBT. If you passed before Feb 2001. If you do a CBT course for the vehicles over 30mph it only lasts 2 years and you must sit a full motorcycle test or resit another CBT every 2 years.

I am driving a 2019 NIU N1S myself (the 28mph version in Germany) and I love it as well, especially driving in the city. Driving outside my main area is a bit of a stuggle due to the limited 35 miles range with one battery). But I got myself the charger of the NGT which drops the charge time from 7 to 3 houres. Besides some minor failures and defects like the brake switch, humidity in the indicator and now sadly a defective ECU I love driving it. btw: watching you drive as a citizen of country where I drive on the right side of the road gives me badass anxiety :D

It reminds me of an 80's Yamaha Riva 200. I guess I am dating myself badly here. Been riding 50 years. Anyone riding a scooter is to be commended regarding carbon footprint compared to car operators, especially in the USA where the SUV is king. I gave it strong thought but I am going with a petrol 150cc scooter so that I am safe to hit 50 mph because sadly, no one goes the speed limit on state roads. I decided that the Niu moped body was preferable for the intended use and whilst not as Sexy as the Super Soco was definitely more practical. I predicted that Niu would 'last' in the market rather than leave me with a machine I couldn't get parts for etc. Some of the Moped options felt a bit of a risk regarding the longevity of the company and there wasn't anything touching the price:range ratio at the time. There are a few competitors popping up but feel secure with my choice; Niu continue to announce upcoming models and tech improvements.

Realise you are new to riding, but you drive and should realise you are blinding all other road users!! Please drive on dip beam only, its the same light output and you can be seen just as well. Main beam is only for unlit roads, and only when no one else is coming towards you... could cause a serious accident. Apart from that, great review, honest and factual. That’s what made me wonder if there are codes to change other things like the dash as well. The code isn’t in the manual. Just found out about it on KZread. When I changed the indicators sounds that’s about the time I noticed the colors on the dash. This makes me wonder if I accidentally entered a code for the dash but no one seems to know if there is one or if so what it is. Lol. I usually do a 22 Mile commute through a mix of town and country. If it is a single lane road you just have to accept you are going to max out at 48mph, this has never been too much of an issue but worth baring in mind. It's a lot of fun to ride. Hey, sorry totally misread your question and ignored the other bit 😂. If it’s a round-trip of 28 miles you won’t need to charge at work but just when you get back home. You get a hefty battery charger and a splitter attachment. No fast charge so mains only. I’d say you would be on about 50% after 28 miles but it kicks into the e-save mode when the battery is below 10 or 15% which means it would just need a nightly charge.
