Paper should dry flat..If hung up the nitrate will go to the lower end on the paper making an uneven coating on nitrate on the paper..

Great info! I will be trying that soon as I get some black powder which I ordered today from Midway, got notification this morning and jumped on it. Now I need caps and I might just order the cap maker that I seen in one of your other videos, no telling when caps will become available again. At least when powder arrives I can make up some paper cartridges.

My local Walmart recently started carrying #11 percussion caps. A couple times I’ve been able to get some if I go early the day the truck delivers to them. You should try that.

I used the same technique, same ingredients, maybe I did not do the 4:1 water KNO3 the same, I just saturated my worn/hot water with KNO3. But my paper just burnt a little better than regular paper? tried 4 or 5 times Pissed me off! tried different filters, cheap regular white, the special Organic brown filters, brown paper bags of different thicknesses, Now I got a bunch of trash with filters, and I drink Instant? Then I used my dry brick of KNO3 leftovers to "blue" some gun and knife parts. Now I'm going to kick it up a notch and do a short light nitic acid wash, and a soda water rinse then with clearwater rinse and dry. (Sulfuric acid drain cleaner and KNO3) I want a more "Nitro Cellulose" paper. I will be Very Mindful to keep it short and rinse soon. Then test, and if I am correct? my paper for cartridges should form and glue well, but be closer to a slow flash paper and ignite in the cylinder a little faster and burn cleaner, OR? I Could Make Cordite/nitro cellulose! and that could be like loading modern Gun powder not black powder, very BAD. I will be "VERY CAREFULLY! EXOTHERMIC!!! IN A SAFE Place with proper PPE" with a bucket of soda water and a garden sprayer of soda water ready for any acid emergencies. Nitric is No Joke! do Not underestimate! I had to work around the stuff pure and HOT for a living so I am a little more comfortable than I Should Be. Don't tell my wife please. Let's Go Brandon! When you make up cartridges how long can they be stored

*_I'm not positive yet. Made some a year ago and I'll be shooting them hopefully. In a video in a couple of weeks. I think it depends a lot on how you store them. I've been storing mine in a styrofoam cartridge holder in my range box. Thank you for the question, and we'll find out in a couple weeks. Have a great day and stay prepared._*

@@LivingFrugalAndPrepping I use a sealed ammo can or pelican case just depending with Desiccant for moisture, but then I do this for all my ammo or powders. Please keep in mind KNO3 is Very! Hydroscopic! like a giant Humidity Sponge! this is why new in a bottle can have rocks and dissolves readily in water.

I'm curious, in a related project vis a vis gun cotton.. if you were to add an acid, ie sulfuric acid and use the same methods as used for cotton, how would paper react? my understanding is the cotton provides the cellulose, could it in fact be substituted with paper? not saying youd want to use the paper for combustable cartridges, thatd be downright deadly, too energetic, just wondering if gun cotton can also be made with paper.

@@LivingFrugalAndPrepping further digging leads me to understand that the paper is less energetic due to surface area..as in the cotton has an order of magnitude more...really is a facinating subject. the almost endless permutations of nitrated organics and the huge variety of compounds from it.
