You where lucky to get the exhaust saide bolts off easily. When i changed the center core, then i had to use heat to get them loose.

Ahto Andron yes your right I had to soak them in wd-40 overnight to get them to shift , on other occasions I've had to use my impact tools , which I don't like doing for obvious reasons .

Is this from the older d.i T30 or the more powerful DCi?

@@Cjrelectrical Thanks. Looks like I'll be changing my turbo or core after finding excessive endfloat but only small amount of lateral play. To be expected at 150,000 miles although it still pulls like a train.

TK42138 yeah I only had to replace mine due to the fin damage causing a loud whistle on boost.

@@Cjrelectrical Looking forward to working on mine because the turbo is easy to get to. My previous car was a Citroen XM 2.1 TD and that was an engine-out job to get to it 😮

How do you tell if it's DCi?, are there specific year models that have the DCi?

Hi I'm pretty confident this turbo was the original , the car had done 115k when I noticed the whistle , apart from the sticky veins on the vvt side , it never burned oil , and there was no unusual play in the shaft . So aslong as you keep on top of the vvt side, I'm very impressed with the longevity of these units

Ok so today i started on removing the turbo, disconnected the battery! and dug my way in, removed air cooler and pipes, glowplugs and heatshield around them allso removed the radiator access to a few nuts and bolts near impossible without removing the manifold and room must be made, undeneath i removed the three nuts holding the exhaust to the catalytic converter so having allso undone the turbo water and oilfeeds and removed the manifold nuts including the pipe leading to the egr the manifold turbo and cat came out as one. On a first external inspection it appears i have an IHI turbo but with the 136bhp terbine identified by the twin blades on the air intake side. So how does the terbo look? a little movement in spline new looking bolts and gaskets and the gate moves freely and the turbo looks fine appart from a presance of oil, how to chek for oil leak?

MrRBobs exhaust side is there just normal soot or sticky black soot , ideally you want to split the turbo in half like my video to check it probably, good work though took me a day to remove and fit new turbo .
