The stock 80 takes the cake. Cheap, reasonable power, very manageable first or 5th four wheel drive, barely needs any service or car and will take you all the places a tricked out V8 GU will go. Bit heavy on fuel but that's pretty much every 4wd

@@tyronejohn2973 it's got more power than a stock factory 79. Sure it's not a supercharged V8 but when you sit back and realise the age of these cars, the weight it's carrying and the tech it uses inside, they're a pretty impressive engine for their age

Maybe if you lower you Tyre pressure down to 14psi it would take less effort on you engine. I was on soft sand with 20psi and the hilux turbo diesel went in to limp mode once I drop to 14 it didn’t even need low range. I’m no pro but it works

Need to put a 1HDT 80 vs TD42 both that have somewhat stock motors and take then through rough terrain and see which one performs and overall comes out better

I reckon you should get a Nissan Pathfinder r50 very nice and very nice off-road when you put some mods on it

I ran 20 psi with my Goodyear duratracs on the dunes and beaches around Southend, BeachPort and Robe and never got stuck. Had a lot to do with being a Yota FJ; being light as shit, and heaps of petrol power.

bro, I went to one of the houses like where you can see at 3:40 in the top right great place and the beach was amazing, I think I saw a goanna, and there were 2 treefrogs in the toilet

i put a 1UZ in my old Surf,,, that thing was a beast before the conversion,, Sased, 6 inches of lift, twin locked on 35's, 2 inch body lift,, that 1UZ was so f*&$@ing good,,, now i have pootrol, should never have sold the surf haha

I wish we had patrols here in the states. I've got a nissan Xterra which is on the same platform as the Navara and Titan. My N50 Xterra has a Nissan Titan suspension installed so it might be IFS but it's long-travel and cycles 10.8" of wheel travel up front. (about 274mm) It is locked but it only have a 4.0l v6 and I want to put a nissan vk56 engine into it eventually.

Hey I'm Sam, I reviewed a 4B that has a custom body, patrol running gear, custom suspension and interior, an LS motor and still call it a HILUX, give me a break.

Cant go wrong with an 80 mate ! Yeh they chew juice but with the right mods will get u anywhere!

Large enough wheelbase to tow well, loves sand and hard tracks but as soon as wheels get in the air you have to get real careful not to break anything. Sincerely, I broke heaps of shit and bought a fj73 cruiser as well.

U should go 4wd at bribie island

Run an electric waterpump, thermo fans and take your thermostat out, or drill 5 or 6 3mm holes in the outside edges, thats what we do in burnout cars and never have heating issues, high revs or low revs, waterflow is the same, be ideal for 4x4ing aswell

As soon as you said take the thermostat out you lost all credibility. Thermostats regulate flow and pressure, which also helps with the boiling temp of the coolant while inside the engine. On top of that, the faster the water goes through, the less heat it takes with it. Yeah, no thermostat is fine for short runs like skids and what not, but for proper high heat extraction which 4x4’s require, a thermostat is 110% required.

i own a 07 zd30 series 4 GU,,, i'm not light on the fat pedal either,,, 340k on the clock and still going strong,,, on the beach its great,, like Sam says, let the tyres down and its floats across the sand,,,, as most 4wds should,, but having said that i probably wouldn't take it to cape york or remote places cause it does have so many k's on it ,, reliability is a bit meh ,,, other than the engine its a good 4wd,, would never own a cruiser now i have the patrol

I'd take a patrol, At least the diffs would make a nice upgrade for my LN106... :P

Both make good stuff, like 1hd-fte is a fkn amazing engine, but some nissans have working lsd's ahahah

Cruiser is actually 10/12/14/17/19mm bolts....there is no 13mm bolts from factory
