Nissan Qashqai hybrid 2024 review: ePower | Has the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid SUV met its match?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The 2024 Nissan Qashqai e-Power is here to shake up the hybrid small SUV segment by going its own way with a very different approach from the norm. Yep, there's a new Toyota Cross Hybrid rival in town, but it's no copycat. So, what stands the the latest contender out from the crowd?
Well, firstly, the Qashqai e-Power isn't a series-parallel hybrid like the Corolla Cross Hybrid. Instead, it's 'just' a series hybrid, meaning that while it does have a petrol engine and an electric motor, the former is solely responsible for acting as a generator for the small battery that the latter draws its power from. Point being, it's effectively an electric vehicle with a driving range extender.
In this expert review, CarsGuide Contributing Journalist Byron Mathioudakis gets behind the wheel of the new Qashqai e-Power at its Australian media launch to find out if it's take on hybridisation is the best for small SUV buyers.

Any reasons why Nissan did not launch the kicks in Australia?

QASHQAI suspension is not tuned for Australian conditions. This cause components that were not designed to deal with harshness to fail prematurely. Good looking car though.

Deal breakers - 95ron - short service intervals - expensive service costs

In UK is very different. They are cheaper to buy as they are made here, the 95 RON petrol is everywhere as it is tha basic one we have (premium would be RON97) and the interval is 10k miles and it costs £350 in the dealership

Nissan is foolish to have not made it a 100km range PHEV

The motor will never power the wheels. If the battery runs out and you out of petrol it can’t be charged. So the only way it stops is if it’s out of petrol.

The petrol motor can bypass the battery and power the electric motor directly

@@KevinSan88 nah bro, epower is driven by the electric motor. The motor acts as a generator only. This is not like the Toyota hybrid.

@@OlyMar83just to be clear it’s a petrol engine and electric motors. The petrol engine can send power directly to the motors that drive the wheels through the inverter even with battery being empty so yes you are correct that the petrol engine does not drive he wheels directly but even if the battery is depleted, the car will still drive as the petrol engine sends power to inverter that drives the electric motors and the inverter will also send charge back to the battery at same time to start to top it up again

@@vrs76r where did you get this info? Send link. This is completely wrong. Nissan system is not like Toyotas. The petrol motor is purely there as a generator. That’s it.
