Nissan Micra K12 Engine Replacement | Part 1 - Removal

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

How to remove the engine and gearbox from a K12 Nissan Micra.
The engine in this micra is a 1.2 Petrol, the 1.0 and 1.4 petrol should be the same basic procedure.
The reason for removing the engine was that it had a blown head gasket and rather than spend money on fixing that issue it seemed to be cheaper to remove the engine and fit a lower mileage good engine in for £150.
This is part 1 of 3 on this process and covers the removal of the engine.

You guys are so lucky to be able to get such an engine for just 150 Pounds. In Turkey, things are a little bit crazy. The second hand value of a 2008 Micra is about 100k TL. You heard it right, 100k. This is less than 10k pounds. The min wage is 300 pounds a month. I know, this is our problem but just wanted to say how lucky you are. Good job.

Hi there Wow so 100k TL is about £8700 over here, that would get a lot of car. It does mean unfortunately that people here want the latest and greatest and don't tend to fix their cars. Im happy driving an old Peugeot every day and work on it myself when needed. These old micras now are almost considered disposable and a lot would have probably scrapped this one but it seemed such a waste.

@@geodreieck2 Watching this video as I was in the search for a tutorial about engine disassembly, and I think I'm going to get it rebuilt. They quoted me about 10 times the price of a new engine mentioned in the video, and I don't think that it is well earned. Yes, very complicated, but nothing that would cost 1500GBP.

I'm surprised - the corrosion isn't as bad on that car as I was expecting. Looking good so far. Never seen an engine pulled out of one of these.

No it wasn't too bad, the usual wee bit of scab behind the drivers headlight but it has not got serious yet. The rest of the car was fairly sound to make it worth putting the engine into. It is unfortunate that these and the yaris rust for there generally isn't many common problems. The blown head gasket surprised a few mechanics i had discussed this with but i suppose no matter how good the engine poor maintenance will still wreak havoc.

Great video by the way . I've broken those two back bolts hidden behind the engine mound they were coroded as they never really felt like breaking loose . An oldish car as a daily runarund ( 2006 Nissan note 1,4) on the engine mount when doing a rocker cover re-gasket and valve seal issue any idea what lenght they are I know they're M8 did not want to waste money probably between 20 and 30 mm I'd guess .

Hi, i have since sold this car not too sure what length they were. I have a box of nuts and bolts from stripping a few cars down to the bare metal very handy for times like that. However a few M8 bolts will not cost a great deal either.

I have a k12 which will be going to scrap due to excessive corrosion on the chassis, im wanting to remove the engine and strip it down as a project and to see why it was knocking. Do you know if removing the engine is possible without a ramp by removing the front bumper and crash structure?

Hi, yes there are many other ways to remove the engine without having a 2 post lift. If you get an engine crane (possibly even rent one, some hire stores do that) remove the bonnet and lift the engine and gearbox up and out of the car. The front bumper and slam panel shouldnt need to come out, i think but removing them will give better access to the manifold bolts. There are probably a handful of other approaches to take to getting the engine out A forklift for example could lift the car. Hope that helps and enjoy dissecting the engine.

It was considered but the replacement engine was £150, trying to sort out the original could potentially have cost much more and there was a risk of other expenses along the way so it seemed safer to just replace it.
