NIRVC 101 - RV Ceramic Coating

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Mark Moniuszko, NIRVC's Director of Paint and Body and Angie Morell continue the RV education series by talking about Ceramic Coating. Ceramic Coating is one of the best things you can do to protect your RV's finish - and keep it looking shiny and new! At NIRVC, we meticulously prep your coach - spending an average of 30 hours - to ensure that the paint is defect-free, to maximize product performance, and establish a flawless surface for Ceramic Coating. Our factory-trained and certified installers then apply industry-leading XPEL to every inch of your coach by hand (including glass), never by machine or sprayers. NIRVC's Ceramic Coat services offer the best protection for your investment.

Three years since we had ceramic coating applied on our ventana. We get compliments and questions on the age of the coach. Coach still shines with minimal rock damage on the front of the coach.. Super product.

Thank you Angie, that was really eye opening. Like a lot of people I had heard about Ceramic Coating, but had no idea how involved the application needed to be to be done correctly. Great video.

Outstanding video! I've heard that you should wait one year to allow the new coach paint job to fully outgas before applying ceramic coating rather than immediately apply ceramic coatings to a new coach. Comments?

This is a great point Greg, and allow me to provide a lengthy explanation. The short answer is - not a year. A typical gas off period is 30-90 days. As I mentioned in the video, this is where it is SO important to understand the process the manufacturer uses to paint your coach. Start by knowing the day your coach was completed in the paint process, next learn if ANY repairs were done after the coach was finished with the intial process, if so; were those repairs baked? There are some quick indicators - If your coach had a cut and buff as part of the paint process, the "Buff" assumes the manufacturer waited for the proper cure period prior to buffing. If the coach went through that process and has "Swirl" marks, there is a strong indication that the coach did not cure prior to buffing.

Wow, Mark, you're amazing on video! Thanks so much for this presentation! How does ceramic coating work with Diamond shield?

  • @markmoniuszko5545

Hello my friends! Ceramic coating is applied directly over the Diamond Shield. The only set back with Diamond Shield would be any imperfections in it (tears, peeling away). We would want these corrected prior to the ceramic coating application.

@@markmoniuszko5545 good to "see" you again! We're getting 2 sections of diamond shield replaced on our generator access panel from scratches and an stubborn air bubble while in Decatur getting other issues addressed. Good to know about the ceramic coating and Diamond shield!

I work for a company that produces the outer aluminium sheets of RV's and caravans. It will be difficult to implement that during the production process.

That is a great point. I worked for one of the "Big" RV manufacturers as a Quality Director prior to working for NIRVC. The way I validated this was to have the painters apply paint to a piece of scrap from a coach while they were painting in the booth (base, first color, clear, etc.), then I had the team pencil test that sample. I assume many manufacturers will argue that there is no way to test this without performing a "destructive" test (taking the pencil to the actual coach), but doing it as I outlined validates the bake booths and the formulation). It simply isn't enough to go off of the paint manufacturer's stated hardness because there are other variables - Was it baked? Are the ovens calibrated? How long was it backed? Do the booths have proper flow (dirty filters) etc.

We do coat the entire coach (except the roof) and the price would vary based on the length of coach and if it is new or used. Please call one of the NIRVC locations and we can walk you through your unique situation!
