Complete Transformation of Oxidized 5th Wheel RV with Ceramic Coating

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Check out the complete transformation of this 2012 5th Wheel. The RV has been left on a dirt road exposed to the sun and poorly maintained. Christian Westhorpe, application specialist for Glidecoat goes through the entire process of cleaning, buffing, polishing and finally ceramic coating to remove years of dirt, oxidization, mold and more. The final reveal is extremely satisfying - a better-than-new finish with the added protection of Glidecoat RV Ceramic Coating.

    Hey Braxton - We have a kit designed for 30' RV's which has 500ml of coating. This would allow you to do 600SQFT, then you could add a 120ml of coating to the kit to cover the extra SQFT instead of going up to the 40' kit. The kit includes the Ceramic Coating, Nano Wash, Compound, Polish and Surface Wipe, plus microfibers, applicators, etc. Even on new vehicles we recommend polish to remove any factory swirlmarks or minor surface imperfections before applying the ceramic coating. Then Surface Wipe to remove any residues prior to applying the ceramic coating. If you have any additional questions, let us know and we can set you up with our application specialist to provide more details.

    If my RV is new, what products should I use to keep it looking new?

  • @Glidecoat

    @Glidecoat

    2 ай бұрын

    With a new RV you don't have to be as aggressive as we were in the video. You can skip the heavy duty cleaner and heavy compound. We would still recommend a single stage paint correction either with the Nano Compound or Nano Polish. Even with a factory new RV, you will likely see swirl marks or minor imperfections in the surface and it is best to remove before ceramic coating. That said, if you are happy with the surface, you can clean then decontaminate with Surface Wipe and apply the ceramic coating. The ceramic coating will keep it looking new and protect for at least 2 years depending on usage, storage, and how you take care of it. Once you notice the hydrophobic effect begins to wear off, you can reapply without any issue. We also mention our RV Shine & Shield at 8:30 in the video as a maintenance/after care product but this can be used as a stand-alone product as well. When used on it's own, it will protect your RV for up to 6 months (again, based on storage, usage, etc.) but as long as you re-apply, it will keep your RV looking great.

  • @descent815

    This seems excessive. Maguire’s has a 2 in 1 compound that does this very same thing and much easier. They make an RV compound specifically for heavy oxidation. Im just saying I work smarter not harder and dont have hundreds or thousands of dollars to get this done.

  • @Glidecoat

    @Glidecoat

    2 жыл бұрын

    While these 2 in 1 compounds might do a sufficient job at removing oxidization and restoring some of the shine to the surface, it is extremely important to thoroughly prep the surface with multiple buffing steps to shrink the size of the pores in the surface and increase the gloss of the surface to as good as possible to ensure that you get optimal performance and benefit from the ceramic coating. If the surface is insufficiently buffed and is still very porous then the coating will not properly seal the surface, which can lead to a reduction of longevity and performance.

    with brand new, you certainly don't need all the steps. You can skip the heavy cleaner and compound. We have a video which discusses the steps for ceramic coating a new boat, which would be similar - kzread.info/dash/bejne/g2ual5KFe6bblrw.html. Generally a new RV will have micro scratches or swirls on the surface from factory buffing. If you plan to ceramic coat it, you would want to give a polish, wipe with surface wipe to remove any contaminants and then apply the coating. I can put you in touch with our application specialist if you want more info.

The kits don't include the heavy duty cleaner that Christian uses @0:46... but most RV's aren't in as bad of shape as the one in the video so you can usually just use the Nano Wash. But if you aren't interested in DIY, we have a network of detailers who can do this for you. Cost varies based on type of RV, but you can send us a detailing request here: www.glidecoat.com/boat-detailing-south-florida/ and we can get you an estimate.

    There is no question, that if you have let your RV or 5th Wheel deteriorate to the point, it was as heavily oxidized as the 5th wheel in the video, then yes, it will require a lot of work to restore it. The key with a ceramic coating is that it locks down the surface. If the surface is in bad shape then you need to restore it. If it is new, which is about 60% of our sales, then you are just looking at a light polish and then apply. This will then help minimize any oxidization going forward and help retain the shine and gloss. In my case I own an Allegro Bus and given what I spent when I purchased it, spending $1000 every couple of years to keep the coach looking new is not a huge investment given what the coach is worth. Is Glidecoat's RV Ceramic the best, well certainly there are countless positive reviews online. Our key advantage though, is that we initially focussed on boats, which are primarily gelcoat. This experience helped, as most RV's and 5th Wheels are gelcoat/fiberglass. Unfortunately lots of consumers and ceramic companies feel that a car ceramic will work. There is a big difference between clear coated painted aluminum and gelcoat. Gelcoat is a lot more porous requiring a much higher percentage of ceramic as well as higher UV deflection, which we have developed, given our findings in the marine market.

    How long does this finish last?

  • @Glidecoat

    @Glidecoat

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hi Gabriel - We use 2 years as a guideline for our RV coating, but it does depend on factors such as storage, usage, regular cleaning, etc. In southern US with higher UV - 2 years is a pretty good guideline. Up north, with less UV, you could see longer. Regular cleaning using a neutral pH soap designed for ceramic coatings, like our Ceraglo product can also help extend the life of the coating beyond 2 years.

    how many hours did it take you to finish it?

  • @Glidecoat

    @Glidecoat

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey Jorge - the total project took about 48 man hours. Because the RV had so much dirt, mold and oxidization, the majority of the time was spent cleaning and prepping the surface (compound and polish). About 70% of the time was spent prepping the surface. Once the surface is ready though, the ceramic coating process goes fairly quickly, about 4 hours per coat.
