Nintendo Interactive Retail Store Displays

Ойындар

Here is a instructional video that was shown to Nintendo Merchandisers in 1992. It goes into a little bit about many of the Nintendo Interactive Retail Store displays they would be seeing, including displays for the NES, SNES and Gameboy. One of the coolest video's I have ever seen! Enjoy!

No modern kid would understand the feeling we had as children, going into a store and walking into the video game section that looked like this! Just to play the console and stare at all the video games on the other side of the glass. It's what made Xmas time so special. We lived it and this is why we watch these videos. To try to get a tiny glimpse of that feeling again.

And in my memory that was the best times. I know my parents say the same thing for back in the 80s. But we went outside we went to high school parties we went to concerts we went to the movies. I think there’s an honest misunderstanding of generations. We simply did things a little differently. Like for instance I grew up in Arizona so we had dirt bikes and we would go off Roading we just happen to have cell phones with us as well for communication purposes. We would have sleepovers with our closest friends but we would bring our phones with us. And just like people from 10 years prior we would also bring our game devices and play video games late into the night it’s not like we just kept our face in our cell phone lol.

Its totally different now especially with the kids that dont know what life was like before all those things existed. They dont even know that people used to have to go knock on other peoples door, just to see if they were even home lol. Fb used to be a good thing the first few years it came out, it was cool. My uncle was pretty much like this guy ( and still is lol )! He was in his mid-20's back then. He knew everything about video games. He brought me to the arcades and introduced me to plenty of classics. Space Invaders, Missile Command, Galaga, Pac-Man, etc. One day, he brought a NES he rented at the Japanese rental store. That's right: our first rental store was owned by Japanese people ( my hometown was a small town so they were the only immigrants and it was a big thing for us lol ). They had the Japanese version of the NES too, a Famicom, and plenty of games I never saw elsewhere until roms came out. I still remember vividly how the store was made, where the shelves were, the carpet rug and everything. My first crush ever probably was the Japanese girl behind the counter of that store. I called her "Nintendo Girl" because all they had at that time was Nintendo stuff. She hated us kids and would put pressure on us to rent games and stop wasting time. She had a strong Japanese accent and man, she was severe when our parents weren't around. She scared and fascinated me at the same time. Her brother ( or maybe boyfriend but I always wanted to believe he was just her brother ) would barely even speak. I would sometimes go to that store and not rent anything because I just wanted to look at the Nintendo Girl, then when I'd feel like she was going to get mad at me, I'd take a couple of quarters out of my TMNT-themed wallet and buy myself a jawbreaker bubble gum or two. Obviously, she didn't know about my feelings ( I was just a kid anyway ) and she just thought I was trying to steal stuff in the store, that I was up to no good. One day, Blockbuster came in and they closed the store and I never saw them ever again. Whenever I find an old nintendo video like this one, I think about her lol.

I really liked this Italian girl and I was like 12 years old but I had to move to a different state.. 10 years later I came to visit and I couldn't believe it that she was still there after so many years.. In the end we hanged out and we finally told each other that we had a crush , I didn't even know she liked me but she did.. But she already had a boyfriend at the time and she said that the only reason she was going out with him is b/c he reminded her of me.. She was Italian and I'm Mexican..so of course she was going out with a hispanic guy.. Awe man 😔.. Never will forget about her..

I miss independant games and rental shops like that, the staff were generally much more interested in games and there was always a massive selection of obscure preowned games going back generations, most had quirky props and displays too so it was always fun to go in and look around, the big chains these days dont even bother with those cardboard displays anymore haha, very lifeless and boring.

Nope. It was how us 1980s and 90s kids got some games to work properly. These carts can somethings not work if you don't clean it or set it in right. I recall the "blowing into your cart" technique that sometimes it works, but it is better to just get a q-tip with a little alcohol and swip it over the reader inside where the game connects to the console. I also recommend doing this to clean the inside of the console. Always use alcohol or alcohol based cleaners like Windex to clean your systems. Water takes longer to dry and will damage the system.

if they survived they'd be worth a lot to retro games collectors. imagine having a shelf load of game carts and then having the retail demo units there so it's like youve got your own video game store? i guess most of them would have probably been dumped though, who would have known these things would eventually be collectible

nintendo told retailers to DESTROY all units, not to sell them nor ship them back so legallly that is what happened. a few employees took some home quietly...and those ended up on ebay today.

  • @pimphandgamester

Lol no. They had to send them back to the distributer, Nintendo still owned those, they didn't just give them to retailers or nothing. I know because I worked at HHgregg in high school. We set them up...etc and at some point had to pack and send them back. The ones on Ebay or that were ever sold were where they would liquidate them from the warehouse at auctions. Whoever originally bought them then sold them around and of course they eventually end up on Ebay and whatnot.

They only recently learned that their creator's program was shit. And Switch Online is still shit, and NES Online is even worse. They're good overall, but need to become better. They're certainly better than a lot of other gaming companies. They HAVE improved in some ways, though. Like, ending the creator's program.
