​@@ItsMeChair1konami recently disqualified every single non japanese player from their big rhythm game world tournament called kac in a very underhanded way making it look like it's the players fault when actually their application system is made specifically to dq anyone not in japan. Everyone's pissed, especially because the rank 1 global ddr player who won the previous kac, imchris4life, got dq'ed and stonewalled when emailing the organizers. Just another day for konami it seems. They also hold patents for mechanics in their rhythm games and aggressively sue other rhythm game companies for copying them to create a monopoly over an entire genre. Some examples, in the groove was sued unsuccessful several times until they succeeded and killed the franchise so ddr has no competitors, djmax got sued, osu and stepmania received legal threats and were forced to remove songs, ez2dj was sued, uma musume was sued, pump it up was sued, rock band almost got sued and settled out of court

If there's a reason why Nintendo doesn't want to support them is because of those actions, the Super Smash Bros community is awful and it always will be

Man, the effort put in those is absolutely insane. Even if the editing is streamlined, to get something that good with so few people (and on a regular basis!) is so impressive. This is the kind of content that esports need more than ever. Great stuff :)

Maybe we really will have to play in the back of a 7-11 for $20

He was the first person in many many years to beat Hbox as Ganon and had a ridiculous record against him like 0-10. He also did it in a flipping 3-1! He already got 9th at Smash Con earlier this year but I’m sure we’re going to see even better from him when he overcomes his bracket demons like he just did.

Favorite moment for me was Hbox stalling his match so Mang0 could make it to bracket, only for him to not make it anyway because he was getting ice cream.

Gonna miss this tournament, being in Ontario Canada makes it hard to actually go to major tournaments, and this gave me the chance to compete and play against top players like ChuDat (I got destroyed lol, but still). Never would've thought I'd get to Pichu ditto against one of the best of all time. Also, I posted full matches from the Coinbox on my channel if you want to see some full sets from the last couple of coinbox's :)

@@M64bros I've been in the community for over ten years. The community back in the day was a bunch of teenagers. Only the older players today would be 35. Melee started to change quite a bit in 2014 with Twitter and all this stuff, but so have other communities. If you prefer a more casual game, don't play competitive Melee.

@@spaghettiking7312 Exactly, which is why I'm grateful There's a respectful, casual side of Smash Brothers and I prefer that side over the toxic side/the people that complain about them losing in tournament match, not taking showers, rage quitting, screaming bloody murder and more 24/7. I love Super Smash Bros, Sakurai and his team of developers that worked really hard on this game along with the other developers at Nintendo that work on those games, but I will always hate its Toxic side of the Super Smash Bros community.

I understand that in person events can cause all kinds of problems depending on the security at the respective venues but for Nintendo to try this hard to put the kybosh on online events which have no security risks is next level pettiness.

I no longer play Nintendo games, but I think I'll pirate a Nintendo game each time Nintendo makes yet another old-japanese-men anti-consumer decision. I'm not gonna play the pirated games, I'll just have it out of principle.

So sad to see the coinbox go. I have to just praise hbox for everything he has done. The man went from being hated by most players and fans, to being the most important online tourney TO. He was surprisingly good at being a host and made the tourneys very entertaining.

It's crazy that the Smash series has always been a celebration of gaming's legacies but refuses to even acknowledge its own.

I don't know why I thought HBox was entering multiple tournaments with random names to play as non-Puff characters. It took me way too long to realize he was simply commentating in the footage.

New Nintendo community regulations stat that any tournament above 200 entrants that offers monetary prizes must adhere to a very stringent set of rules else Nintendo threatens legal action. Hbox wanted to try discuss the licensing w/Nintendo but Liquid had no desire to potentially face Nintendo in court, and simply mandated that Melee Coinbox online end. Ultimate Coinbox online got licensed and will continue and Melee Coinbox will have some in person invitational events but won't ever be online again for the forseeable future.

cause the own the rights to melee, any game company could decide to not let anyone stream their game or host tournaments for their games, legally speaking Nintendo is entirely in their right to not let anyone host tournaments for their game especially a modded version. they own the IP they decide what happens with it. is it morally right absolutely not but they can do it
