ninja 300 vs 250, why the 300 is better.

How to do the EFI mod on the ninja 250 - www.ninjette.org/forums/showt...
There's many reasons why the ninja 300 is better than the 250. And I would highly recommend ponying up the extra $500 or so dollars to get the ninja 300!

The 300 is nice. BUT I can find 250s in my price range all day long. I can find a few 500s that need a helicoil on the plug in my price range. I can find one or two 650s, a whole damn truck full of katanas, and even a 6r, a fireblade and even a ninja 1000 in my price range. Not a damn single 300 in my price range though. People are pretty proud of em.

Great little bike, very easy to ride and looks a beauty. In my option, the ninja 300 isn't slow. it's just slow compared to other sports bikes. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, i've seen people ride 300's harder than 600cc and 1000cc around twisties, only getting beaten in straights. you don't need a big bike to be a good rider

Why do people care so much about "beating" each other though, do they have some insecurities? That they nerd to overcompensate with a something like a sport bike, to reaffirm their own existence? So what other bikes are faster?

I have owned two 250's. one "92 and one 2009. I loved both but the 92 was better because it had fewer emission and rev controllers. The new 300 has ABS and a "slipper" clutch. Add that to the fuel injection and I hope I can buy a good used one before I get too age impaired to ride it.

Nice video, man. I have been riding Harley's for the past 10 years. However, I've always had the desire for a Honda CBR. By chance, I inherited a 2007 Kawasaki Ninja 250 a few weeks ago, with 1, 130 miles. The bike had not run in over 4 1/2 years. I bought a new battery, spark plugs, carb. rebuild kit, and changed all the fluids. The bike is amazingly powerful; I was highly impressed. I am going to sell my Harley and this 250 for a bigger sports bike. A friend of mine has the K. 300, and like you said, I mistakenly took it for a bigger bike. Anyhow, ride safe and take care...

I also have an R3, but I would be just as happy on the new 300. Any new bike needs modification to something, so the stocks are good starting points. The substitution of the Z-rated top performing tires are always welcomed. I did raise the read to a 150/60 to have a bit more rubber under me, and the handling improved for the total change. The mileage is affected slightly because the diameter is slightly smaller (65 down to 63.2), but it's hardly noticeable. Like I said, either bike is a good choice for riders who want good looking, reasonable performing bikes. I like mine because I can finally put both feet on the ground.

Hey man great video and good points. One thing though is that you said fuel injection is so much better than carbs. I would disagree, not that carbs are better but that both systems are equal in my mind. Carburetors are not any worse. If you set up the carbs right then there isn't really any hassle with them. They work just as well, the only thing is choke when starting. So I guess my question is why would fuel injection be better. All one has to do is understand the carbs and clean if ever needed (which they don't need adjustment). The other points are all very good and I'd choose the 300. Just an observation.

I have a 250 and it's great for what it is, but I've changed out the gearing a little to increase the range of the gearing and drop the rpm's to make it use-able on the highway. My biggest complaints about the 250 is that the stalks tend to work their way loose and the seat is only good for short trips.

here in belgium we get ABS (its non optional) and the testriders here have tested the smal sportbikes segment, and it is 2km/h faster then the R3, is forgiving enough to set good times on a tight track where ass the RC390 punishes you with timeloss, has more enough power and a sharming top end rush, its ass good quality build like the cbr300, has the most range. so i am gad to have my 300, i just changed to battlax s20 evo's and put the rear preload up to5 and it has become a faster and more nimble bike with under 300 bucks :)

Good points if you're considering keeping the 300 bike for a few years, otherwise spend $1000 on an older 250 with low miles that was not badly dropped and make your newbie mistakes on it, then sell it with very little depreciation. But that's just bean counting. It's much harder to argue against a new 300 with ABS considering the safety aspects of it.

  • @HeroRR

I mean that whole question is a video in itself. My recommendation would be to have it looked at by a mechanic if you can bring one or meet the seller there. Assuming this is private party. If that isn't an option for you then you should study this sheet right here and maybe even print it out for your records www.clarity.net/adam/buying-bike.html Reliability I would say try to stick with a Japanese bike, one that is completely stock, ask the owner if he did the oil changes, make sure you look at the chain, if chain was neglected then chances are everything else was too. Make sure you subscribe to my channel because in a few weeks I'm going to release a lot more videos on buying your first motorcycle.

"Ninja 250 top speed: 95mph" My 2009 has seen a top speed a tad over 105 with a 15 tooth front sprocket. Also i went for a slip and slide with it going like 40 something around a wet bend and the turn signals just flexed back (like a spring) and didn't break off. Besides that, I 100% agree with this video. Get an ABS 300 Ninja to start off. I'm buying a new 300 just for the ABS and fuel Injection. Playing with the choke of a cold carb'd bike sucks. If you can't afford the 300 ABS, save up or you'll regret it later.

+Red Brown My ninja 250 was struggling hard to hit 95. There's many factors that can attribute to it though. rider weight, wind speed and direction, slop of ground, etc. But the general consensus is that the ninja 300 is about 10 mph faster on the top end than the 250.

i got my 2008 ninja 250 with only 500 miles for 2300 all it needed a fork seal an awesome bike regardless of the haters out there. A 250 in a city like los angeles (where im from) is more than enough to get thru traffic safe. If you live in the country then yeah your going to want more motor due to the roads being less congested compared to city roads. In conclusion if your just looking for a everday bike that gets you from point a to point b without any fear of crashing a 250 ninja is the right one for the job not to mention if you crash it wont hurt as much as spending another 1000 for a 300 which literally is the same thing.

My first bike was a 2000 R1. it was way too much bike. The ninja 300 is actually nice. not really great beyond 70mph, and the first gear is a bit jerky. only real gripes that I have is no gear indicator and the final gear needs to be tuned a bit more torwards the 70-90 range. Makes me uneasy holding 7000-8000 rpm on the interstate lol.

  • @HeroRR

Kristen Moon Nope, I just sold it to buy my 600. I'm going to buy another one some day for track purposes I hope. A gear indicator is nice, you can actually buy an aftermarket one like I did for my CBR. I didn't like how squirrelly the bike felt on the highway, one gust of wind and it sends you into the other lane nearly. Also the bars wobbled a lot when you took your hands off of them. Lack of steering damper was the cause of that.

I'd say buying a NEW Ninja 300 is worth it over a NEW 250. But neither are worth $5000 or even $3000, it's a bike you learn on and then sell to get a bigger bike. I bought a 2007 250r for $900 needing rear brake pads, a new chain and a windscreen. It ran and drove and was in good condition actually. I fixed it up for like $100 and now I can sell it and MAKE money on it. Is it as cool looking as a new 300? No, but it looks good and it taught me to ride, and literally got me free money to put towards a Ninja 500.

I live in Phx, AZ so I know the struggle. My 250 is great around town and on the highway but it's a little weak for the highway IMO. It has to sit at 8000-9000 rpm so you can have passing power. I don't want a 120hp bike but I plan on selling this and getting a Ninja 500 very soon. It's like 22 more hp and a bunch more torque since it has twice the displacement. You can cruise at a low rpm on the freeway since it has a lot more torque and save the engine. I feel awful keeping an engine at 9000 rpm for 40 minutes. Even for 3 minutes...
