The lyrics are quite touching on a few levels, actually; the narrator for the first two thirds is only considering himself, but upon thinking about how many people have wishes "under the millions of stars" - he changes his tone and asks for all creatures to find happiness, not just him. All three members are rather learned people - their educational background is shocking. The guitarist / singer sometimes even writes lyrics in medieval-Japanese style on purpose so that it sounds slightly "alien" to the native modern Japanese speakers. Glad this was the song that "made them big" (relatively) in the Western world, as it's a great sample of both their lyric-writing and songwriting. Thanks for doing these guys - Japanese metal continues to surprise and amaze me - and y'all's honest reactions are awesome.

They are dressed as three Japanese caricatures: death monk, professor, yakuza. They are my age (58). I love the back and forth of the movements in this song. The final solo is sooo good.

Also it's fun to note that Ningen Isu means "human chair". It comes from a very dark short story written by Edogawa Rampo in the 1920s. And famous Japanese horror comic author Junji Ito has also adapted it.

The never ending bag of Great Bands in Japan. It never stops. Whether its Metal,Rock,Pop,Jazz,etc.... Japan has many artists that will enchant you. I'm pissed we in the West weren't really aware of this long lineage of Bad Ass music until recently. Japan has artists going back years and years that Easily contend with their Western counterparts.

"he's not saying anything" That's what "Scat" means, in the context of music. The shabadabadia kind of nonsense words and vocalizations is the Scat part in the song's name, usually most often found in old Jazz songs.

Thanks for the video, I hope to see you react more to this band, they have tons of albums and have kept true to their style pretty much the whole way. The other guys sing too, my next recommendation would be "Namahage" and "AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS". Scat is a jazz technique, using your voice like a drum fill, hence all those Shabadaba lyrics, and the 'Scat' in the song title.

  • 10 ай бұрын

For anyone who wants some popular intro to scat singing, look up "Scatman John" He had a hit a with "Scatman's World" in the 90s (yes, before many here were even born ;-))

The bassist also sings some songs, like "Neputa go home" which is a good song, with a (cartoonishly) gory animation, based on a mythical story/festival. It's only a little over 3 minutes.

Good video! I've watched several reactions to this song. Just about every time, someone says something like, "Look at how old these guys are!" It cracks me up. Has any checked the ages of the pioneers of metal - many of whom are still playing? Metal isn't the creation of the younger generation. It is a gift that has been passed down by an older generation. Thanks again for the video. I have subscribed!!!

Hi from France: NINGEN ISU started in 1988 and during the 90s they played rock metal influenced by King Crimson, much more than by Black Sabbat or other similar Anglo-Saxon bands. Besides, their covers of this band ("In the cost of Crimson King" or "Lark's tongue in Aspic" live) at that time were among the best played by other bands than KC... For exemple : kzread.info/dash/bejne/n2eO25qek8jAlLg.html&ab_channel=%E4%BA%BA%E9%96%93%E6%A4%85%E5%AD%90

I'm a fan of Ningen Isu (人間椅子). You pronounced the band name pretty good, actually 😊 As a Japan native living in the US, I really appreciate you apologizing for possibly butchering their name and soliciting comments so you can pronounce correctly❤️ Thank you. As their fan, it's delightful seeing you guys jammin and lovin the band! They got known in the early 90s (late 80s?) and this Budgie cover ↓ with their original lyrics (about Hari no Yama -- the needle mountain of the Hell) was a hit. I believe they play this piece live regularly. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X36kpJKtndLZoto.htmlsi=Fe9URhAwagPSeV6I (There are other live youtubes. The song was studio recorded so can listen on their albums and streaming.) Wajima, the guitarist, is a SG-only guy and one of his SGs (which is no longer playable so kept in a case) was a gift from Tony Iommi 😉

This band is great. But since you guys seem to love some growling vocals, it's time to try some Maximum the Hormone. These guys cover the whole range of extreme vocals. I'm not a big fan of death core screens so it took me a while to get into them and now I can't get enough of them. "Shimi' is probably one of their tamer songs that Nemophila has recently done a cover. 'Zetsubo Billy' is another cover. These guys have no formula. Every song is different in every way possible like a roller coaster ride but always fun, Highly recommend you to give them a listen. Probably both the Nemophila cover and the Maximun the Hormone originals. You won't be disappointed.

@Roger Chance TBH, since most of their songs are titled in Japanese, they are not easy to find. They style may be death core but they really defy genres. It may take even the hardest core listeners to give into them initially but once they catch on, they are hard to shake loose. I'm not hardcore by any means but they got my attention every time now.

You got the call right on the Black Sabbath connection. Their main influence has been cited as being Tony Iommi/Black Sabbath. Shinji Wajima plays Gibson SG, the same as Iommi, and in fact he even has a hand autographed Tony iommi SG. I don't know why anyone would not pay attention to lyrics as the lower left guy stated. That's like saying I don't read the words in comic books.
