All the members of the genus Nimbochromis seems to get very large. We currently raise this species and its relative N. polystigma. Charles

This fish does have an interesting, mottled pattern. Some people report that they pretend to be dead and rotting to attract small fish to eat. I've never witnessed that behavior. Charles

It is pretty. Interestingly enough, some think the colors mimic a dead, decaying fish to attract food when they play dead by laying (or lying, I can't keep that straight) on their sides. I've never have seen that behavior, but it is reported in the wild. Charles

The pattern on these fish makes the females rather pleasant to look at as well, I like the fish with nice patterns.

Yes, the females are also patterned unlike many Lake Malawi females. While their colors are muted compared to the males, they are still pretty. Charles

@@goliadfarms7029 when I worked for a fish importer, Southwest Tropical we received a group of Pollys, N. Polystigma about 5 or 6 inches. They would swim in a school even when I wasn't close to the tank. I enjoyed seeing them but their light portions were a light tan and the N. livingstoni which we had in a separate tank by himself except a few odd fish that were not part of a group, until he was sold was a bit smaller (maybe under 4") but the light portion was snow white.

@@williamblansett5786 We had N. livingstoni long time ago. Probably should get some again. Our N. venustus are very prolific, but N. polystigma isn't for some reason. I do like the brown spotting on the females. Charles

The entire Nimbochromis genus has some very interesting color patterns. We currently only raise two Nimbochromis species, this one and N. polystigma. The species name means "many spotted." It's the females that show many, many tiny brown spots. Charles

It was a ratty little plant that my mother's cats kept scratched up when I got it. It loves the warmth and humidity in the greenhouses. I think people under water them. Charles

@@goliadfarms7029 I grow it in my garden here in Australia, but it's a plant gone out of fashion. Plenty of new varieties of Dieffenbachia in the nursery trade now. This variety I've not seen sold for at least 30 years. Interestingly a lot of new varieties are imported into Australia as tissue culture flasks. From..... Florida.

Great video Charles and all involved. I I have a pair of the venustus that beautifully coloured up and around the 6 inch mark but they have no interest in spawning. Should o add more females? Thanks Jim

I've always found it's best to have at least four females per male. A single female gets harassed too much by the male who thinks because she is nearby, she wants to mate. In nature, the females only approach the males when ready to spawn. Charles

This is one of my favorite species of Lake Malawi cichlids. They are in high demand, but due to their large size, it takes a while to get the males colored up. Charles

We aren't listing this species yet, but probably will after the next breeding cycle (probably August or September) after we bring the breeding colony up to full size. Charles

those spiders scared me. moving to oklahoma from the far north never seen them. raking leaves and 1 was on the rake handle. Looked close and it jumped! Seem my soul leave my body for a second.

We have a lot of spiders, mostly native, but some are introduced. We accidentally brought a jumping spider with us when we moved here from Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2000. Charles

I guess I could go nude, but I don't think KZread or our viewers would approve. I sometimes wear shorts, but the long cotton pants keep my legs free of algae from the sides of the vats when working them. Charles

Where are you in Texas? We allow site visits by appointment. Shipping is a loss for us. By the time we pay FedEx or UPS, buy boxes, bags, and oxygen the cost of shipping exceeds what we charge. Charles

We haven't deleted any videos. Once you are on our KZread channel, try a search for "swordtail" and you'll find some. Sometimes, since we polyculture some swordtails with cichlids, the swordtails will be combined with a cichlid video, usually at the end of the video. Charles

That does happen sometimes. Cancer often seems hereditary. We had a line of goldish-orange Sailfin Mollies that was prone to tumors. Charles
