It's aimed at L Ron Hubbard
L. Ron Hubbard (Scientology founder)……. Or who ever you want. Also this song, H, then 46&2 in a row might be the greatest sweet spot on an album I ever experienced when growing up.

Ditto, 1996 was an amazing year, musically.
When you get to Pushit, can you make it a two-fer and do the studio followed by the Salival version? Tool fans will thank you 🙏🏼

@@EmpReacts you are awesome bro! Great reactor
H is Maynard’s son’s middle name. Not middle initial. Middle name. Devo H Keenan. It’s about Maynard becoming a new father. And there are Scientology references in Eulogy (912 is the address of the Church of Scientology, South Park episode 912 is also about Scientology), so it may be referencing L Ron Hubbard (who he also goes off on by name in Aenema).
I think its meant to be open for interpretation but I believe L Ron Hubbard and Scientology were an inspiration for these lyrics
Considering how Maynard name drops L Ron Hubbard later in the album, and how applicable this song is to him, I like to think it's about Hubbard. Dude was a fucking bastard.
Thank you. Love your responses to Tool songs. This song came about as a response to doing a private concert with L. Ron Herbert, the leader of scientology. Maynard, after experiencing him, wrote this song.
Next time when you start the song, close your eyes and imagine a marble headstone being etched outside in a Gothic Cemetery at midnight!

I listened back....SPOT ON!
I have been waiting for this album. All the albums are amazing. Going from 13 year old me When Undertow came out to 16 year old me in High School listening to this, to 21 with Lateralus, 26 with 10,000 days, 39 with Fear Inoculum. Aenima just brings back alot of memories and is my favorite Tool Album. I wore that cd out in my portable cd player. Learn to swim
The beeping sound in the beginning was Maynard through a bullhorn. He also uses it for the verses.
this song grew on me after a few listens it quickly became one of my fav. this and pushit are so good. i think this was peak tool cheers all
In 1993 Tool was booked for two gigs at an event center. At first they didn't know it happened to be Scientology's Celebrity Center. Needless to say both nights were chaotic to say the least. They mention 912 in the song. That happens to be the address of a Scientology Center in Redlands CA. They also do make several other references to L Ron Hubbard in their discography. In interviews they have mention other interactions with the organization.
been waiting for you to hear this track and see your face to the scream of "goodbye" at the end. worth the wait. keep 'em coming spiral out
Most underrated tool song

most underrated maynard scream too lol
Maynard wrote this back in 1995 with the band and I'm still intrigued that people debate over who the song was originally written about.. After working with the band back in this era, I can say that this person was close friends with Maynard... perhaps Maynard may have even elevated them to a ''prophet" like status who had eventually let him down. Moral of the story is: Tear down your idols! Don't elevate humans to a god-like status, because flawed humans will most likely let you down in the end. 🤔
This is my favorite Tool song.
It’s crazy how deep Maynard knows Jesus even though he shuns him. He knows Hubbard is a false savior, bc of the precedent Jesus set.

You're reaching, friend. But, I clicked on your channel and saw that the only thing it contains is a playlist of videos of Catholic priests and bishops, so I guess it all checks out. I had Catholicism drilled into my head when I was a child, also. I eventually let all that nonsense go. Best of luck with everything.

@@AlexCarbajal321 HUGE REACH. It’s more likely that he is mocking both Lron and Jesus. Sadly, that would be more in line with his character at the time.

I love this song!!!thanks for the reaction...good job!greetings from Italy
Here we go, buckle up 🤘🌀
H. one of my favorites
time goes by fast with them, and other's, because you can travel threw time, and space with your mind.
I’ve always heard this was to Henry Rollins and the end of there friendship. Rollins is definitely an outspoken person the lyrics would fit
Oh yeah!🦾🔥💯
You will find out later in the album 😁🤘🏻🌀
H, I think it's a love song 2 his son, but using heroin(H) as a type of metaphor
Its a Eulogy for his ego that hes working on killing and evolution he writes in 46&2
We can see it in your eyes, don’t wait a week to listen… just listen to the whole thing and put it out. We’ll watch the whole thing… loving this! I’ve always taken this for any false prophet or person who claims to sit higher up closer to god and proclaim to be gods messenger.
I love this whole album, and I'm dying to see H. It's one of my favorites. (and no, not because of my name lol j/k)

Hey, both reasons can be valid! 🤷♂🤣
Imo he is dissing false messiahs who take advantage of the weak and gullible for their own power and nefarious ends. L Ron Hubbard and all the damage his fake church has done is a popular guess.
Tool is the best of incorporating odd sounds. Another band that is also great at this is Porcupine Tree
The whispered bits are up to interpretation, but that version is way off. "Well i was so sure that I'd sin and you would too I'm just you know me well enough to always let me always sit beside you. So mad since we stopped following your commands. You weren't too mad when he called, your mind is helpless"
I look at it as a song about charlatans in general, but I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me has the dope on the specific person the lyrics reference.
Most consensus is L RonHubbard
L. Ron. But pro'ly one of my supervisors at a former workplace. After Undertow this was the song from Ænima that changed me from a "Tool's a great band" fan to "I think this is going to be the best band ever" fan. Enjoy H.!
Those 'grating' sounds making you uncomfortable is precisely what's intended to do...Worked well didn't it?? LOL

Learn to Swim and continue Spiraling Out...
This song is about Bill Hicks, not Ron Hubbard. That was a troll the band came up with back in the day and I guess some people took it seriously, which is a hilarious tribute to Bill Hucks in itself. He is sampled at the beginning of Third Eye and was a huge inspiration.
Yeah buddy!
