Not just the Irish, but white. 300k white people were brought to the US as slaves. Mostly homeless and convicts during the 16th and 17th centuries. They were bought and sold. For context 400k black slaves were shipped to the US in roughly the same time frame. The difference was that white slavery ended when the US gained independence.

Random Irish, sidenote. At the same time during the transatlantic slave trade 1/3 of the entire Irish population was sold as slaves in Africa. The potato feminine in Europe wasn’t a famine. There was lots of food. The Irish just weren’t being given any so it was actually a genocide by the English. When the Irish came to the United States or to the Americas because the United States hadn’t founded yet the order of respect was black, dogs, Irish, so they were actually less liked and given less respect than slaves or dogs. They definitely had one hell of a ride.

Flogging Molly is the best Irish music. Drunken Lullabies and Within A Mile of Home are both albums I have happily looped for days or weeks at a time. The whole band is capable of flowing each possible feeling into their art and then they add a little bit of something otherworldly on top that takes you home and far away in the moment you're feeling the emotional equivalent of where you've come from being a beginning and where you'll be being anywhere and anything possible, even if you wind you way back to make life better where home was. It's a good heart, might, mind, and soul workout to feel the fury of purpose and promise while never forgetting the tribute to the past. I highly recommend their music. It's always helped fix a day when for some reason it felt like it needed fixing until you realize how much is amazing in each new moment. I love them dearly and wouldn't have felt I exited in a place I might belong until they shared the journey that could have seemingly been my own. 🫶🖖🫠🤟💖👾👽🦄💚🫂

I am 59 years old and a good friend of mine megee first generation Irish making his father the first to come to the USA and his story is about the children of Ireland and the way they were chained together and put in the coal mines to bring out the coal. Since they have a tidal and wave issue sections of the tunnels would flood, thus the reason why they are chained together so the survivors would have to drag out the ones that drowned so as not to have bodies blocking the tunnels. Please tell me again about no history of slavery in the Irish nation and as far as their acceptance her they were The first really hated immigrants from being Catholic and olde school sleeping with their animals like they did in their own country. The men were taken off the boats handed a gun and sent directly to war. At least take a little bit of time to make sure you have a full history B4 you decide what kind of Life another nationality might have been thru. Love you and am enjoying your show very much.
