The Nikon Z9 makes me hope and look forward to what Nikon will do with Nikon Z5 Mark ii

This is beautiful! Usually I see footages that look this good on Canon, Sony, Fuji, and Lumix cameras but not on a Nikon! I shoot Nikon myself but for photos and this gives me hope for the future of the brand when it comes to the video quality with it up coming cameras like the Z8 and the Z6iii! What is your personal opinion about the video quality that comes out of the Z9? Again great video and looking forward to seeing more cinematic footage from from you shot on Nikon!

NLog in h265 is very good. Well handled overall, especially the color. Very neutral. I found the Nraw was below my expectation. I can compensate exposure in post (I got great result), but not so much with white balance. I should dial in the exact color temperature I want when I film in nraw. Nraw is like processed raw to me. However, Z9 is a great hybrid camera anyway, that I can recommend to anyone. Thank you

Nikon REALLY are top notch for this upgraded film look...too bad no ones really paying attention though and its super expensive

Is the H265 10-bit codec in 4:2:2 or 4:2:0?

I own a Z9 and the files are large for shooting video. Are there appropriate settings to choose from? Thank you

Hello Hideki, I am trying to make a decision on purchasing this camera and I have one question about it if you don't mind. What is your experience using this as a hybrid photo and video camera? my main concern is that with video I will need the ND filter to be on the camera most of the time, but for photography that mite not be the case. Would I need to keep removing the ND filter to switch to photo mode or do you just keep it on? is that an issue at all from your experience?

You’re going to need nd if you shoot in log.

I’ve been using the fp for a couple of years and I won’t get rid of it because of the CDNG file. The file contains vary organic film like color and texture. It’s a genuine unprocessed file. The flaws on the fp are no log, no compressed raw, no lowpass filter. The z9 has the most neutral color (both camera and lens) among cameras I’ve ever used. The h265 file is very well balanced between the picture quality and file seize. And it’s still much lower recording codec than z9 actually can deliver the best. Additionally I’m so comfortable to shoot with the vertical grip camera, which I’ve never ever expected at all. And it’s an excellent still photography camera as well, which is one of major factor when I choose camera. So far, for me, the z9 is the only camera that suits all my needs.

Beautiful video! The images are absolutely gorgeous! I have been a huge fan of your bmpcc videos, I watch them all the time for inspiration. I know this camera is different in almost every way, but how do the cameras compare in terms of the character and quality of image in your opinion? Compared to many other modern cameras (sony, bmpcc 4k/6k, fuji, fp etc..) none of them produced the same "feeling" that I would get from the og bmpcc images. I am still undecided on this camera as I need to see more footage, but based on this video alone the Z9 is potentially the first exception I have found so far, I really love it! I would like to know your thoughts on that if you don't mind :) Thanks and I really hope to see more Z9 videos in the future!

I would say the z9 has the most neutral color, and unprocessed image. I like the Fuji color and I’ve been using it for years, but it’s too much processed to me. Color-wise, I like Leica, Nikon, Olympus, Canon, Fuji in my order. Sony and Panasonic are out of my favorite color list. The fp and blackmagic are a bit different because of the raw filming capability. I’m not sure about the N-raw yet. The raw file doesn’t really have much room to modify color in post. I’m still testing it. Thank you.

Thanks for the response Hideki. I am really liking the Z9 features and image so far. I am curious about the raw capabilities of this camera as well as I am used to shooting raw on the bmpcc og. I don’t fully understand the differences of the codecs to be honest but seeing your videos using H.265 and ProRes is changing my perspective as the image quality looks phenomenal to me, and working with raw obviously has its downsides. Anyway I look forward to seeing future videos with the Z9!

Do you still have this camera? Would love to see more Z9 videos. I love what you did here.
