I think it's funny how now everyone makes evaluations of cameras, due to their video capabilities! Not for its image quality, not for its dynamic range or for its resolution capacity, for its ability to shoot in high isos, for the image quality when shooting, but as they make video, thankfully it is not for its ability to bake chickens, because I have a great oven here at home ...

A Physical Button is quicker to Access then navigating through a Menu to get to the same function. The C Batteries are also compatible with the D850. I have several C Batteries with my D850.

A very detailed review indeed. I also can easily understand the comfort of using the new Z cameras with all the new technologies put into the making. But the hangover or so to say the feel of a BIG DSLR camera in your hand is so different from a Z series camera. I wish Nikon continues to make big cameras.

Would you recommend one over the other for astrophotography? Currently shooting with Olympus OM-D EM Mark ii.

do a comparison between a canon rebel and the D850, can you tell the difference in image quality.?

My sigma lenses back focus on d850... but not on z6 ii... one huge advantage of not to worry on calibrations

I loved your bloopers! Thank you for the video. I have neither camera and really want to get the D850 for wedding photography, but the z6ii sounds better for low light and I like the fact that the LCD view gives you the correct exposure.

The Z6 II has a CFexoress slot that will also take XQD and the UHSII slot.

Very interesting video Darrell, i would still go for the D850 the weight would not bother me but eash to there own. As you say they both got their own highs and lows. Thank you for sharing and stay safe.

Hi Darrell Great comparison. Our D800 and D7100 only see the light of day when we're doing either sport or wildlife photography. Most of the time we have our small Sony Nex cameras with us, they are a lot lighter and easier to carry round. Best wishes Jon & Sandra

Comparing a z7ii would have been a better comparison but I see what you are getting at. Thing is the z6ii 14fps seems not very useful because you don’t see a live view in the EVF when using the continuous high extended frame rate mode, it shows you the last shot taken unfortunately. effectively the 5.5 frames per second is the usable mode for fast moving subjects like birds in flight. Have you tried 12-14fps tracking fast action?

Darrell how about birds in flight? I heard that there were issues with both the z 6II and the z 7II with birds in flight due to the rolling shutter. Thank for your videos.

Such a difficult question. 850 is one of the best DSLRs ever made and you can’t go wrong . If you are committed to the Nikon system then I love the Z6ii for speed, quality and the evf is so useful for assessing exposure. I hesitate to recommend the Z6ii particularly for wedding photography as when using ZTF converter with legacy lenses. Dedicated z lenses are better. I personally am waiting for the announcement of the z8 which will incorporate the excellent features of the z9 at a more affordable price point.

Great comparison sir. I'm in this boat of choosing an 850 or a full-frame mirror-less camera. This is really hard. I mostly shoot city scapes (in low light)when I travel and want a good stills camera, and the 850 is my dream dslr, but mirror less seems to offer the future tech? Any opinions would be appreciated. The reason I ask is that I can get an 850 right now for a steal right now....

I can't offer much more than I said in the video. The 850 is a cracking stills camera that won't disappoint. As you say mirror less has more tech and less weight to mention a few. Budget is king in this situation.

I have both. For city walk around I use the z6ii. When I do a couple of weddings a year I like the 850. Get both if you can. Good luck on your search.

It is not just a mirroless camera ... it is Nikon Z6ii

you should compare the Z6 with the D750... it would be more sense...

This was a very much lockdown inspired video. Difficult to get new pics.

D850 for stills and the Z6 for video...

Not a fair comparison sensor wise. Also no info in how many possible shots with the batteries . And what about sensor dust ? Logicly the Z-mount should be more sensitive for that since the mount is much larger. And D-lenses = no autofocus with the adapter . New lenses : more plastic & expensive .

Nice breakdown of both cameras. I guess it is time for me to rent a Z6ii and Z7ii to see which I will go with. So, you do not say z ever hmm. I have been trying figure out the ed is hiding to make it zed 😉.
