Underrated aspect of his playmaking is he's already playing at NBA pace with a 24 second shot clock, he's getting his team into actions much faster than anyone in college.

Reminds me of the baseball pitchers in the 70s that couldn't throw a fastball, but their pitch was never in a straight line and struck out almost everyone swinging at their pitch. He's not fast, but he uses his body and misdirection to make it work. Hope his left knee recovers and he dedicates himself to conditioning.

@@christopherbraido7624 I wanna start by saying I don’t think he will be Luka but if we’re going off of that scouting report then we can say the same thing about rookie Luka coming in. Topics number one skill is confidence. I know that sounds ridiculous, but his confidence/pro experience is what will lead to his success in the NBA imo

Great vid, thank you! Topic is my favourite guy in this draft, really hope my SAS grab him. Just one thing i worry about - it's his left knee. All his other cons are not that awful: 1) not that good at defence, yes, but at least boy has size, it already gives hope he can be an average defender 2) 3 % is not impressive, but a) he plays with adults in the european league, these guys are not stars, but really dont give you any space and time to shoot b) His 3pt shooting just inconsistent, he changes his mechanics too much. It's fixable with nba coaches without any problem. Nicola has good handling, he's really good (good at least, sometimes fantastic) with ball, why he can't shoot in future? C) all his 3 aren't catch-and-shoot, all throwings were from dribbling, because while Nicola was in Mega all attention of the opponents was focused on him. It's not the same as throwing empty corner 3

This is the pick I really want the Spurs to make - if he's available. I feel like he's the best of the playmakers for how they want to run their offense with Wemby. Is he the highest of ceilings? No. But if there is an org which could get the most out of him? It's definitely San Antonio.

Rockets fan here, I'd like them to draft a PG (Sheppard, Dillingham, Castle) and trying to figure out if Topic is the real deal or not. I like his size and that he is already playing professional ball. I don't like the injury scenarios, he seems to play kind of upright (seems unathletic) and I have concerns about shooting. He could be another Tony Parker or Goran Dragic though, so hard to predict this draft!

Rockets need shooting so I'd steer away from players like castle and topic. Sheppard and Dillingham are definitely good options though if you prefer a pass first point guard Sheppard would be the better option. Dillingham is a capable passer as well tho.

The statistics aren't great, but I'm not as concerned about his shooting development as his athleticism and defense. And just because I've seen it quite a bit and I'm a Spurs fan: Topic looks to be a VERY different player than Tony Parker. Parker was focused almost entirely on scoring when he came into the league and had to be dragged more toward a traditional passing point guard role by Pop. He was also one of the fastest players, if not the fastest, in the league for the first 8ish years of his career. Topic is excellent around the rim, but it looks to be more because of his size, length, savvy, and the threat of his pass that makes that possible for him.

I think his BBIQ and feel for the game are his biggest assets. By that I mean, it's not just that he can pass, it's that he could raise the level at which a lineup operates. He would be great to add to a young team with lots of room for improvement like the Wizards or Spurs, but could also be a valuable asset off the bench for teams like Charlotte or Memphis. This draft is so hard to get a handle on I've kind of resigned myself to just seeing how it plays out, as opposed to being a diehard believer or disparager of any particular player. But I do believe the Spurs may be the team who benefits most from him. I know there's lots of lazy "Spurs pick the Euro guy" mock drafts out there, but, if you watched them play last season, their need for a high IQ guy was obvious. There were so many plays in which easy plays to open scorers were either made a beat or two late or missed entirely. And that's even from some of the team's more veteran players or Tre Jones. Victor needs more players around him who see the game at the level he does, and Topic clearly would provide that. His defense may keep him from being a starter on a team in the title hunt years from now, but in the meantime the team's identity would shift in a positive direction by having such a decisive playmaker on the floor.

@@xcchrist8161 I’ve been seeing this quite a bit from Spurs fans recently, and I think it’s important to keep in mind that we can’t predict the future. By that I mean: we don’t know where we’ll be picking, we don’t know where he’ll be projected to go or how he develops over the course of this year. That may be an overly obvious thing to say, but, by keeping that in mind, it becomes even more obvious to me that draft choices this year shouldn’t be made based on hopes for next year. Risacher is the only player this year I’m truly hoping the Spurs can get, but otherwise I think they should take whoever the best player available is that fits a need. They have lots of needs, therefore plenty of flexibility, but I’d like to see them pick up one of Topic, Castle, or Sheppard if possible. If any of these players become redundant in the future due to other draft picks, then that’s great because they’ll then become trade assets. But if they don’t get a guard who can pass, shoot, or defend the POA because there’s a chance they might next year, I would consider that bad strategy.

I feel like with this selection, it could mean SGA gets moved to the shooting guard and allow him to be a scorer while Topic is that true PG and puts up crazy assist numbers with his passing to SGA and pick and roll opportunities with Chet. His passing and play making ability could mesh really well with SGAs scoring. I don't watch a lot of OKC Thunder games so I'm interested to see if I'm right with my assumption.

He's a poor defender who can't shoot and has very little explosion. Overrated prospect imo. He has good positional size at 6'6 and he's a good passer/play-maker, I'll give him that. And there's definitely value in that. But that's about it. He's always going to be a poor defender because of his lack of athleticism and foot-speed. His jumper may come along eventually, but it's definitely not there yet. And his lack of athleticism/inability to explode off the dribble is really going to hinder him at the next level imo, where he'll be going up against bigger, stronger, faster, longer, and more athletic defenders. And this is all before you consider the fact that he appears to be injury prone already at such a young age. That's a huge red flag in itself.
