yeah because they have different tones and are written very differently. GTA IV is meant to be realistic and "le dark and griddy", while V is more like a blockbuster movie.

Nah bro, Michael like the criminal aspect of his life, he enjoy killing and robbing people and consider that as achievments in his life. He is a menace to everyone around him since he is a master of manipulation, he kill and betray anyone just to achieve his goals. Even Trevor is afraid of him, of what he can do to have what he want. Michael is a bad person, he just act like a good one. Niko is a good person that act like a bad one.

i think there's definitely a part of him that wants to be normal, but his core instincts tell him to stick to what he's used to; violence and following orders. he may not kill for no reason, but his reason is usually "____ told me to and i'll get closer to darko if i do." niko's an exaggerated case of war permanently rewriting one's brain to constantly expect and respond with violence. he's definitely a bit of a sociopath where i think michael's a bit more tame

@Stevesbeve A relapsed Junkie...really, at what point during the story does he relapse, its been a while since I've played GTA IV, but I don't remember him being a junkie... I never thought of Niko as killing for the sheer pleasure of killing and only kills those who get on the wrong side of him, or those who mess with those he loves I.e. Roman and his Mrs, when he avenges Kate or when he gets revenge on the dude who sold him out back in thenold country. Niko is almost definitely not a nice person, but I never thought of him killing indiscriminately, if he could live a quiet life, which he seemed to want to do with Kate, then he would be happy with that, and that's where I compared him to Michael, rather than say Trevor. With Niko abd Michael, it felt to me that they wouldn't go all out to find trouble, but trouble would have a way of finding them and sucking them back into a life of crime

This is because of how the games are structured. Niko is the sole protagonist of a full game, Trevor is playable for two thirds of his game and still isn't in all missions nor forced. Niko has more missions, it's natural that he has more kills.

I liked Johnny as a character. Spent a lot of time playing as him. They did him dirty in GTA5, getting back with Ashley and doing drugs didn't sync with his story in GTA4. It seems like they just wanted to kill somebody of to show how ZaNy and CrAzY Trevor was. I killed Trevor off in the first playthrough. Just kept him for creator garage storage on the second.

I always thought of him being that, and Tommy Vercetti is technically the Tall Man from Phantasm and Carl Johnson is Candyman.

Niko simply did what he was told to so that his relatives and friends wouldn't get hurt. Trevor was basically a way Rockstar found to represent the average GTA player.

Trevor was wild but he wasn’t blindly killing people. He had a valid reason everytime he wanted to kill someone. He was extremely loyal and he didn’t sugar coat shit but he wasn’t some blind psychopath

Niko literally says he moved to America to escape the killing the crime and the bloodshed of his home but unfortunately finds himself caught up in it right after he tries to start anew

Niko is a protagonist that, although has committed countless crimes and murders, we can still empathise with. It seems that all he truly wants is to make the best out of a shitty situation so that him and his cousin can live happily. His actions, although criminal, serve a purpose for him and his loved ones, and throughout the story he seems to consider his decisions in line with some semblance of a code of ethics/moral compass. In addition to this, while he is ruthless (as someone in his position/lifestyle should be), he seems to have a sense of humanity about himself in the way that he processes past trauma and how he makes sense of the chaos LC presents him with. He has also demonstrated his willingness to fight through hell in order to protect and save those he loves. In my opinion, he is a good person at heart, who unfortunately got too deeply involved in a dark lifestyle that doesn't have a happy ending for most people. The sad truth is that there are many people like this out there!

I feel like Trevor would actually kill more than Niko did but that's including the rampages and all other side missions, but comparing the main story kills; i guess Niko killed more.

You're forgetting that Niko has: • Assassination side missions, though the target is usually just one target, in almost all of them quite a lot of people will be shooting at you • Drug deliveries for Jacob where in some of them quite a few people will be shooting at you • Random encounters, many of which require you to kill a few guys are attacked by them • 30 most wanted missions, and in similar vein there's just 1 target most of the time (sometimes associates too), you will need to take out quite a few • 20 Vigilante missions, though it's random and you can just pick 20 of "criminal on foot" where you just have to shoot one guy, there are also "gang activity" ones that require you to take down quite a few more Niko definitely has way more if you include side missions.

even if niko spares Ivan, he later attacks Niko(in an encounter) and gets killed in self defence so it doesn't make much of a difference just extends his life by like another week or so.

Trevor is definitely worse. He's a loose cannon who will kill for no reason, Michael even implies as much. Niko on the other hand does have principles. I could 100% see Trevor going to a park and shooting everyone one just for kicks, where as Niko would never do such a thing.

I thought the war crimes committed by the Yugoslavian Army during the Bosnian War were bad. The Croats were worse than them. Some people have theorized that the Nazis were petrified by the shit they did to people, like turning people INTO SOAP (allegedly). The Japanese were probably the worst when it came to war crimes. It was so bad that during the Japanese invasion of China, during the Nanking Massacre, an actual Nazi was absolutely disturbed from the stuff he saw the Japanese do. World War 2 was an absolutely terrible time to be alive in human history.

Toni Cipriani was worse. He blew up an entire city block for $5000 and he did it like it was nothing. You could also argue Trevor was worse due to his morality and the people he was willing to kill. Niko mostly killed people who sort of deserved it but Trevor would kill someone just for looking at him wrong or because he was in a bad mood.

Niko was a soldier, sent to war, and was betrayed. You’d have to piss him off really bad to get him to kill someone (which is part of the reason Niko is in Liberty City to begin with, he’s hunting down the man who betrayed him and his friends during the war).

I admire you counted every single kill he made in the game. That's some dedication right there. Respect in that regard. 😉 By the way, the "Yugoslavian war" doesn't exist. It's how all you foreigners oversimplify complex situations and stuff. Take it from me, someone who comes from one of the former Yugoslav republics.

Sadly its unlikely for Niko to ever return or even get an off-screen/teased happy ending as Rockstar and Niko's voice actor had a fallout. Michael Hollick, the voice actor tried to fight for royalties after the sales of the game, as many other video game voiceactors automatically get, but Rockstar just cut ties with him in response.

Niko is more targeted, sure he’s may or may not be the most trustworthy for other fellow criminals, especially depending on the player’s actions, but for Niko himself, it’s about who has money. He mostly kills either for revenge, or if he’s simply told to do it, or if someone is troubling a friend of his. He’s kinda like a mercenary working for the mafia. A criminal, but has reason, and moral reason if you pick the right criminals to kill. Trevor is more chaotic and emotional, he’ll kill uninvolved or innocent people on a whim for existing, and his planning is more messy and by his own accord a lot of the time, but he gets the job done as a criminal, he’ll find a way, albeit more destructive.

Notice how it says roan didn't obsess over the happy birthday post? Kinda off for him to not be mentioned. I wonder if niko was saying happy birthday as a memorial to him in his passing

I had a blast playing GTA 4 back in the day. I’d played and beaten GTA3, Vice City and San Andreas but all the additions to GTA4 made it a different experience. 4 was the first time I played online with my friends and it was my gateway. The experience seems to just get better since GTA5 has been a damn revolution. I can’t wait to see what 6 has in store

I just finished the game and I’ve realized something after all these years. I think little Jacob was an informant. A news article in the game said that a wire tap picked up the last conversation that Elizabeta had, which pointed to the cutscene with Niko, little Jacob and elizabeta arguing. The police intercepted that same attempt to get the drugs backs and when Niko gets the drugs back little Jacob leads him to a place where Amanda was waiting to take the drugs from him. We know Niko worked with the government and the police so it makes sense why he got away with his crimes. But there was no indication that little Jacob did. So either he was an informant or also did jobs for the government which I doubt because Niko was more trustworthy and professional in that regard.

That's an interesting theory! Little Jacob did team up with Niko during the Paper Trails mission though, so he did at least one job for the government that we know of

Don't forget assassination missions that are canon in GTA IV as they have some story in them. And the people he has to kill in random encounters. Niko also has 30 most wanted criminals to kill in LC, and usually you have to take out quite a few guys before you get the the one you're after, but yes, not much story in it.

Niko was a controlled killer for hire. Trevor was an un predictable killer with a Charles Bronson complex.

Niko Bellic is the best GTA character in my opinion. The backstory that he has is very real and unfortunate. He leaves his home country as he’s not only trying to get away from those trying to kill him and away from the place where he saw his childhood friends die in the war, but also out for revenge against the person who betrayed him and everyone in his unit as only he and two others survived the ambush that the betrayer set up with the enemy. Niko also is implied to have committed war crimes in addition to the already horrible things he’s seen and done in the war. His war experience is the reason why he has a very cynical view of the world, though despite the cynicism Niko still has a conscious, where I could see somebody might not have one after everything they’ve been through. When he gets to America, he’s not only driven to find who betrayed him and his unit, but also is trying to create a new life for himself, but he finds he’s not really able to avoid doing crime work as well as work with the government in order to find out exactly who betrayed him and his friends. There are of course moments where Niko can spare somebody and thinks about who he’ll kill, rather than just killing someone for the sake of it. Of course, he comes to America to see his cousin Roman, who has been in Liberty City for a decade by the time Niko arrives, while also trying to start a new life, but he isn’t exactly trying to chase the American dream like many others who arrive from other countries. You were wrong about him not getting any kills in the diamond trash truck mission theres two kills because there's people coming after the diamonds in a car and you gotta kill them before they kill luca and Tuna

I literally didn't shoot a bullet in that mission lol just drove the truck while the guys on the back shot at the pursuers

Every GTA character has their low-key moments but I think Niko Bellic and Tony Ciprani was the darkest among all

And that's why IV is the best

and yet somehow he's more virtuous than most gta protagonists

Yeah it can really use a remaster. The PC port needs tinkering to make it playable and it not being available on modern consoles is crazy

Those were good points but i still think trevor more dangerous than Niko he's too unpredictable and he's the first canonical serial killer protagonist he is a cannibal and the contract DLC for GTA online confirms that the special abilities are Cannon so Trevor can go Invincible for 30 seconds

After you said you can wound enemies to take them out of the fight i started to wonder what's the least amount of kills you need to beat the game

Niko has a military background and he’s fresh off the boat. Trevor’s psychotic self works better with how we typically play a gta game. But when it comes to a murderer in the story missions, Niko is the best. Not only does he have the military background, but he’s fresh off the boat after being in the Serbian military. We as the player can only imagine the crazy sh!t he’s seen and done. We figure he knows his way around a gun. But he’s in a new world, far removed from the one he knew. Killing is all he can do to get by. And you really feel that with a more serious story and as his actions lead to deadly consequences. But when I say best “story murderer”, I mean Niko is the most likely in real life to be able to pull off the crazy things that happen in the missions. He’s trained and is always killing to make money, save himself and his friends. Trevor would’ve obviously been arrested or killed if he carried on the way he did for all those years between the prologue and gta 5. Niko is a ghost. No background except an unknown deep special forces Serbian military one. As far as strategic (yet deadly) heists, bombings, assassinations, Niko fits the bill as a character the best for all that. CJ had a heart beyond the two people who knew him. There was more there than just him in wanting to rid San Andreas of the Ballas. Niko had his (depending on who you save) brother or girlfriend as his only weakness. He went quiet by gta 5. Cuz he was trained in combat, disciplined in not indulging in the drugs he often robbed and sold, and then truly proved he was smart once he got money and went quiet. I’d like to think Niko had his mom come live with him in LC. Niko had truly gone quiet, no enemies left around to threaten his mom and cousin(or girlfriend).

CJ kills hundreds of ballas and vagos when taking over the city not even counting the rest of the game. He’s actually the most psycho.

niko is not "worse" that trevor. trevor kills a lot of the time just because he's a psychopath, and because he enjoys doing it. niko kills on the other hand because he's paid to or because it's what he thinks is the righteous thing to do. there is a difference between murder and killing. murder is killing in cold blood (aka without real reason).

I hope little Jacob shows up in gta 6

Actually went back to GTA 4 for the first time since release and I connected with Niko and Roman way more now that I'm older and more into the story elements. Niko being asked about his old life and how he found his aunt (Roman's mother) raped and murdered but allowed Roman to believe she simply died in a fire was rather harrowing. He lived a hard life and both endings being bad endings sucks but also isn't surprising for a person like him. I'm of the belief characters like him do not deserve a happy ending, as much as I might like them by the end of the game/show.

How dare you clickbait me about my favorite GTA protagonist of all time, I loved the video!

Everything Niko does is in the pursuit of protecting Roman,his friends and their wellbeings and lifestyles, Niko has many psychological dilemmas where he questions his own actions as you progress through the game,Trevor does things in the pursuit of his own ambitions and fantasies of thinking he's some big shot businessman despite living out of a trailer and gaslighting his neighbours into thinking he's their friend despite him treating them like dirt. Niko doesn't seem to enjoy killing people where as Trevor seems to revel in the chaos, Niko is the better character though.

As far as the playboy Dwayne choice. There's a massive D where you kill Dwayne. Playboy has a huge X to mark the spot. It pretty obvious what's supposed to be cannon.
