NiKo: "At some point in my career, I should transition into the IGL role"

Ойындар

G2 have shocked everyone after winning IEM Dallas 2024 with Jake "Stewie2k" Yip as a stand-in. Despite facing some difficult opponents in FaZe, MOUZ, and Vitality, the European squad and the NA legend managed to conquer it all, on the back of Nikola "NiKo" Kovač's calling.
Dust2.us' Daniel "Scoobster" Khurgin managed to talk with NiKo, who had his best event since Gamers8, almost a year ago, excluding the RMR. The duo spoke about the atmosphere of the arena, the growth G2 went through during the event due to Stewie2k standing in for Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, and what the future holds for NiKo as an IGL.

I think Niko always had the mind to be an igl but lacked composure, patience and charisma, which are crucial traits of a leader.

True that he loses composure quite easily, or so he did much more before winning kato and cologne in the same year, I think he is learning and growing more mature, he is the goat rifler and has some arrogance because of it, but he also is a very humble and nice guy, everytime he talks about m0nesy he says: "he is going to be the best, he is already better than me, I learn from him". And the fact that m0nesy a kid who already is the best player in the world, decided: I want to play with niko says a lot about how great players respect him. Also I remember yesterday when they won dallas, the first thing Niko did was lifting stewie, and if you remember correctly the reason why niko doesnt have a major is because stewie2k anchored b site on inferno against niko´s faze clan back in 2017. I mean I feel really happy for him, Its great to see he is not the asshole people believes or says he is, quite the opposite, 100% my goat.

Can't say for sure, but I wonder if focusing on calling kept Niko from as much tilt as we've seen. Knowing that even if he died, he had to keep his mind in the round for everyone probably helped him.

Ngl Niko igl is pretty good ngl. He started off as an igl back in early days and tried to bring the balkan scene into tier 1. There was one round where I saw Stewie (on a random timing not at start) just smoke main and jump vent to plant B along with his teammates and I was like wtf?????? I am pretty sure it was a niko csll because I saw niko talk quite a bit outside while stewie did the move. If it was him it was beautiful

I remember the round you are talking about. Vs liquid Niko gets the pick on Cadian outside. Niko immediately called down vent, since cadian wouldn’t be alone outside without his rifle yeki with him. After the game stewie confirmed it was niko call.

I wasn't sure if Niko was good at IGL or not and thought G2 would fall off in the quarters or semi finals against a team that isn't down their main IGL. Turns out he very much does - Him transferring to IGL and Stewie2k filling in as an entry fragger allowing the star players to get into position really seemed to pay off.
