Aaah time and time again I get surprised by what a long way Paper Games has come, the Nikki franchise is evolving so fast, from a simple 2D anime game to 3D open world and now a movie!! I can't wait to see it, the trailer has a lot of heart and is visually stunning and I love the bright colors!! This really makes me want to work at Paper Games one day lol

First, this is truly WONDERFUL 💕💕💕💕💕 it's so beautiful, I actually cried😿 The amount of detail, not only in the animation, but the direction and writing! There's a lot of clues about everything being a dream of a memory of Nikki: the birds that fly by her and when she falls from the bus are cockatiels (Nymphicus hollandicus), and when she walks down the street to the granny's house, there's a kite shaped like a cockatiel stuck on a tree; she gets whisked away by giant rabbits, and later on the rocky road, there's a wall with bunnies drawn on it. The living balloons that started this whole adventure are seen in a "blink and you'll miss it" moment attached to the granny's door, and lastly, the flower in the rainy city's sidewalk which the umbrella turns into is the same as some of the flowers in the grandmother's garden. On the wall of granny's house, there's a calendar marked 06/12, Nikki's birthday, that's why the balloons where at the door, alongside a couple of decorations: it's one of Nikki's birthdays in the past, when she was a child. After the granny places the flower crown in her head, Nikki's sadness is due to the fact that she is aware that _everything is just a memory, and her granny isn't really there anymore_ . Truly, everything was produced as executed with the utmost care, I'm speechless.

i like to see it as yellow is seen as a bright and happy colour, and that nikki has kept that in her life, as well as when her grandma whisked away, in yellow mist, like she went off still happy for her, and that yellow is seen as sunshine and light, that nikki will always spread light as do in the main story of saving miraland in the first place. and yellow is like a reminder wherever she goes, come to think of it, dont think it was meant to be but momo also wears yellow

Good observation, I also think that the yellow in this trailer represents joy and warmth, too 😸 I was pointing out elements that reappear in the memory vs the dream world, but there's also plenty of symbolism and metaphors to be found! Here's something really interesting: I remember when I first watched it, I noticed how baby Nikki felt attachment to her umbrella. The way the camera had so many instances where it focused in the umbrella, the way Nikki losing it temporarily is framed, I knew the umbrella was a focal point and it definitely meant _something_ . Didn't know what it meant, but it definitely was meant to symbolize the main element of the short. And then, when the umbrella turned into a flower and the whole section with her granny ended, with the umbrella turning back to it's original form at the end, everything made sense: the umbrella is directly tied in to the flowers in granny's garden, the same flowers she uses to make Nikki a flower crown, because it represents Nikki's memories of her grandma. That's also why the umbrella itself is shaped as a yellow flower, to emphasize it, and also why Nikki's connection to it is framed by the narrative, as it's not just the umbrella, it's what the umbrella represents. Her granny might not be with her anymore, but the happy, warm memories will always be with Nikki, metaphorically protecting her from the rain (which is also a metaphor for sadness, of course, even pointed out by the narrative with Baby Nikki crying while in the rain at the end). I read Nikki "growing" at the end as meant to symbolize the fact that, while she was a "baby" throughout this adventure, it's because she had emotional baggage that didn't let her carry on, and now, after encountering/remembering her granny, the closure gave her the strength to continue forward, thus "growing", but keeping the umbrella, as growing does not mean letting go of her dear memories. This is what I got in my first watching, as I hadn't noticed the recurring elements I mentioned in my original comment until I rewatched it, but what's funny is that a few days ago, I read an alternate synopsis, and turns out, it really was about Nikki missing her long-gone grandma and finding closure through revisiting a memory in the dream world. Apparently, the house the granny is in is actually Nikki's childhood home, and grandma had come to help and to celebrate. Yeah, so the message of the whole short is that, closure is super important, but that doesn't mean throwing away the memories of those we have lost; we will carry those forever, and their gentle warmth will "protect us from the rain", encouraging us to move forward. This message is actually also showcased in the games! In the Mood Listening event, Xiao Zong insists that people holding on to memories is a bad thing, as they "drown themselves" in them, that memories weight people down, but Nikki counters him saying that, yes, losing oneself in memories isn't good, but memories don't weigh people down, they give people strength. It's all really well written, I really love this franchise's writing 💕💕💕

Same here, lost my grandma just a month ago... At first I was being reminded of my childhood and thought it was so cute and tender and wonderful, all the magic of the dreams, all the world qround that girl begging her to trust it and make little "steps"... So I though it was about feeling self-confident or exploring your own creativity, but something was off, as the little girl seemed sad or even lonely... THEN I saw the grandma and I *knew* what happened. Ouch. It was still so tender... 🥺💘💗✨✨

Imagine the Nikki games growing to be one of the top games in the future, from a 2D dress up game, to this, a movie. I honestly can’t wait to see the Nikki games blowing up, it Fr deserves it

This is part of the official trailer the game Infinity Nikky which will be released for PS4 & PS5 next year. I also heard that this game will be cross-platform playable as Genshin Impact. Mobile, PC, and PlayStation.

2:15 Mixed feeling here, then I JUST started crying, somehow I just cried through the whole trailer.😭 Seeing Nikki being so courageous and resilient just made me so emotional. And 4K pls!

An absolutely magical short that truly brings out all the sense of wonder and awe of a child. One moment she is riding through a starry sky, the next she is running through a flowery avenue with kiddy chalk drawings on the walls and a kite stuck in a tree. I then got completely teary eyed when she sat down by the old woman who finished the flower crown and adorned the little girl with it, and then saw her happy innocent smile at that

I loved that. For a child this would be so wonderful for their growing spirit. For myself, I felt a bit of pain in my adulthood but it was still very good for me, while still only a preview.

The first half feels like the bus got accident and she's gone to heaven without reconize it.

I wrote an analysis of this lovely short, a Chinese fan mentioned that they thought it was a pretty good analysis (in Chinese, of course), and this jerk sent them apropos of nothing this copy pasted reply, probably because they saw the jiantizi Chinese characters and went "hur hur, anime".

I'll admit, was not expecting to tear up with this. Such lovely animation, too.

This really feels like a technical showcase. The global illumination and subsurface scattering effects are phenomenal

Its TRULY a masterpiece animation, I watched it 3 times in a row and almost cried at the end, its very touching, emotional, i didnt expect that when I first watched, I thought that it will be a cute animation but the end was so sad, my god, and how she didnt say anything but you knew how she feels throuh her face expression, it hit way harder unbelievably beautiful animation, congratulation to the studio who did this. I feel soo emotional now, but, what happened at the end can sadly happen in real life, I hope that someday everyone meet again with their loved ones..

No clue what this is or why it ended up in my recommendations. But I need this. This was beautiful.

I've never heard of this game but this animation is insane. Very worth the time and click.

baby Nikki is so adorable--! I'm so amazed by everything being put out for Nikki, recently! I can't wait to watch this movie!

Im still very surprised to see how the nikki sequel evolved throughout the years. i remember playing their first game years ago which was nikkiup2u and i was hooked. i still remember it occasionally bc i love the bg song and casual vibes of the game. i kinda wish theyd bring back the og casual premise where its just nikki and her daily life lol. i also played the 2nd sequel which is hello nikki. im rlly sad that the eng ver is no longer avail tho. i also play love nikki and shining nikki and i often feel so proud to see how much the details have progressed. im so proud to say that i grew up playing these nikki games.. the nikki games will always have a place in my heart ❤

Reminds me of my failing to make my dream true, then I went homeless and fell into a hole of depression alone, but I fought and started all over again, and I am going to make my dream true this time, in 2023 is my goal. Most interestingly my alter ego in the past was named Nikki... a persona I created when I started to obssess with having my future and dream come true, it's as if he's telling me somehting now... because I now had decided to go back to Yokoshima (a nickname I was given in highschool when I came out on youtube that I wanted to be a "Japanese rock singer"), and now I chose not to give up my older dream because it is the reason I am living everyday and always had been. I am not going to give up my dream just because I failed before. If anything, I have now so much more meaningful things to sing about.

Wow. I’ll admit I have no idea about anything Nikki related and most the vid I was just wondering what was going on and why this kid was tripping lol. But, when we got to the grandma scene it all made sense. Very nicely done with the bird kite, the rabbit drawings, the turtle sidewalk, the balloons. Things that can seem so much more from a child’s pov. Not even mentioning grandma. Even my cold dead heart was moved lol. Well done.

THIS IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!😭😭😭 Nikki! the graphics, the story! everything was absolutely beautiful!! it had me cry through the whole thing~~I am so excited to see the future product!! :)

When I see something like this, it really gives the imagination to the viewer of trying to figure out what story they are trying to tell here. How I see it, the little girl went out for a walk in the rain. She took the bus. That bus had an accident, putting the young girl either dead, or in a coma. She dives deep into the afterlife, until she finds her grandmother. Ends up crying because she misses her, and was happy to see her having a happy afterlife. The girl is then revived/wakes up from her coma, to grow up and live her life, still thinking about her grandmother in her heart.

This animation release on PlayStation channel and after few hours it removed from the channel. Finally found it.

I'm unreasonably hype.

Shining Nikki has a lot more continuity of it's story than Love Nikki had, especially with the translation issues. I couldn't figure out heads or tails of what was going on at any given point in Love Nikki, and trying to find the lore outside the game has it's own disadvantages. Shining Nikki is also more immersive, with everything in 3D, all the dresses being made of materials, the makeup being separate from the skin tone... the only problem is that it currently fills up ~20GB of my devices storage ^^;;

Nikki has a special place in my heart. On the night my childhood dog was dying and we were left waiting I downloaded Love Nikki and began the journey in a fog of grief. Through the years I've continued to play off and on, through updates and new games, then my kitten had to be put to sleep and through other minor griefs I would play their games. To see it come this far, and to touch a backstory for her... it means something to me.

Dude wtf. I am hearing the name Nikki for first time today morning when I got this trailer in my recommendation (but it was in Japanese with no comments). It looks soo pretty. I initially thought it was just a video by PlayStation as a Christmas thing

I am so excited! This trailer is absolutely stunning! The Nikki franchise has come such a long way. Can't believe all the high quality stuff we're getting! The trailer itself said absolutely nothing, and yet everything at the same time. Absolute masterpiece.

Wow I just have no words I don't know what this is about or why it popped up as a suggestion but it somehow drew me in, it was amazing and beautiful. At 6:05 I just somehow knew what was going to happen still can't stop the tears really got to me. Nothing has made me feel anything in a long time but it pulled me out of my depression for a little while.
