Everyone protested when they arrived to the track, the bolts of the armco barriers were only mounted not properly screwed and that was all around the track. The team workers and drivers worked.thursday ans friday to have the track in conditions and yet only few were happy with the work. Sadly enough during the race Rolf Stommelen lost his back wing in the jump coming from the main straight, Carlos Pace that was running behind crashed against the back of the of Stommelen and both cars tangled wheels at 180 kph. The car of Stommelen was launched over the catch fence, killing 5 people and injuring many more. Admittedly the tragedy wasn't caused by the lack of safety or the organisation but the track was banned forever from Formula 1

Really good footage, and it makes the English-speaking motor sport press look pretty silly. Everything I read at the time blamed Brambilla for this accident, believing Andretti's claim that Vitt pushed him into the back of Lauda's Ferrari. Nonsense! Brambilla's March never gets past Hunt's Hesketh - Mario does it all by himself, leaving his braking too late. Perhaps he just couldn't admit to wiping out both Ferraris, his once and future team. I might be wrong but I don't remember Autosport ever apologising to dear old Vittorio for their mistake! Thanks for posting.

Andretti is an extraordinary driver, a legend who has won with every type of car; but sometimes he was very rude when trying to overtake. Besides this episode with Lauda, ​​we can remember Zolder 1977 (when he kicked out Watson) and Fuji 1977 (when he kicked out Laffite).

Today Andretti would take as minimum 10 sec of penality fot hitting Lauda and put off two Ferrari in one shot!

Mario Andretti did the same to John Waton at the start of Belgian GP 1977.
