    yeah but the whole point is that the court, like the curved bits of concrete for skaters, is PERFECT for tennis - but then they aren't allowed to use it. I think the ad is really clever.

    @corpJJ the problem is that skateboarding isnt meant to be done in a park, its meant to be done wherever the skater wants to preform their trick.

    Nike has done more for skateboarding than people give it credit for. They've put up money for skateparks (the one I skate everyday included) and supported skateboarding 100%. Thats more than a company like World Industries can say, after having let there entire pro team go.

    @Skatemore1243 Well that's right and I believe it's an art as well, but the physical aspect of it and the competitive nature of it's history are what make it a sport. That doesn't mean that it isn't an art form as well.

    Skating is pretty destructive, at least on a cosmetic level. Wax leaves a dark residue on concrete, painted rails get scuffed all to hell, grinding takes chunks out of corners if you're not careful, and other things along those lines. That's not to say it should be banned. It's just that if you make the area in front of or on someone's property look worse, they have every right to ask you to leave. People that are rude about it are lame, but skaters who are rude about leaving are, too.

    Everyone watching this should read Thomas Frank's "One Market Under God"-in it, he talks about how Nike marketers in the late 90s had trouble selling products to skateboarders, because they thought of Nike as the "man." So they made these commercials aligning themselves with the skateboarders AGAINST the man (the police,society), and the shoes were a hit. Just another example of how subcultures can be swallowed up by dominant society.

    the commercial isnt saying that skateboarders shouldnt be prosecuted for skating in places that are illegal to skate in, its saying that there shouldnt be so many steriotypes. there shouldnt be any "no skating" signs. but all that insurance stuff, that stuff is alright. and the damaging property stuff, thats alright too. tennis is meant for tennis courts, theyre not huting the court. skating is (kinda) meant for streets, were not hurting anything. its bad when people get pissed at uson sidewalks

    @seel5 It's because skating is prohibited at the best places for it. If you have no skatepark in your town, and theres a nice ass stairset with a buttery handrail nearby, you're gonna skate the best suited place for skateboarding, chances are though, you're getting kicked out.

  • @Skatemore1243
    @Skatemore124314 жыл бұрын

    Ok, lets start, to the guy that said this doesnt make sense because its a tennis court and they get kicked out for playing tennis, go to my local skatepark everynight and there will be a cop ready to kick us out as soon as it turns 10(although the lights dont go out till 10 40) now these commercials are clever and all, but skateboarding is not a sport, its an art. to anyone that disagrees you either dont skate or are blind. i can see where they are coming from but were artists, not athletes...

    Hey warelephent....Thomas Frank acknowledged that Nike failed with making huge profits, but it's just that Nike tried to incorporate subcultures that is kind of creepy, you know? And this commercial was shown during the X-games too. I think it failed cause there just aren't that many skateboarders out there, so profits won't be huge. I love this commercial too but I think it's ridic for Nike to positioning themselves as against the "man" when they are a huge corporation.

    skaters have been on the peripheral of society, seen as a funny sub-culture, a lot of prejudice surrounds what they do, big sums of money are made by this activity, to stifle its progression by treating skaters like wayward juveniles is incomprehensible. I'm sure if you're polite and agreeable towards them, they will show you the same respect.

  • @colt777rulz
    @colt777rulz13 жыл бұрын

    @munkendunkey They're trying to make a point, that a lot of skaters are discriminated against for no good reason, by police, security guards, and quite often just by members of the general public. Sure, some skaters are out to cause trouble, but most are just their to have a good time skating, and yet a lot of people treat them like thugs. They're trying to educate people of the fact that skateboarding is not reckless or excessively dangerous, it is just another sport.

    I don't think you skate..Skaters aren't violent.Skaters are people from all walks of life, so just like any large group of people, there's gonna be jerks, losers, violent people, etc.But the majority of skaters are actually very openminded, nice people. When I go skate, the connection I feel with my friends around me is incredible!Like I said, people of all walks of life skate.But when we're skating, we're all the same. We treat eachother equal, I'd say we're doing better than most of the world.

    what is really stupid is comparing other sports with stadiums too skateboarding.. because skating is all about individuality finding new spots to skate not being contained to a specific area... such as skateparks... bcz usually thes parks r just practice areas so you can take it to da streets but den again their is vert skateing so whatevs

If i get out my bed, grab my board and join the other skaters in park everyone greets and everyone talks to each other, there are no outsiders. No matter if they are 10 years old or if they are black, white, yellow whatever.Some skaterhater please tell me that this fact is also right for golf or tennis clubs?There are many outsiders,like black people. Ridiculous

    Honestly this commercial doesn't make sense.... Tennis courts are made to play tennis, the same with skate parks made to go skate! I'm a skater myself and have no problem being kicked out.... if there is a no skateboarding sign then obviously no skateboarding! It only sucks when people call the police when your just skating at a normal park or something like that, some places just don't have local skate parks!
