NIKE AIR ZOOM TR 1 REVIEW | What's the deal with these?

READ MY REVIEW: thatfitfriend.com/nike-air-zo...
The Nike Air Zoom TR 1 has been an interesting training shoe for my strength and HIIT workouts.
What makes the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 unique is that it features an Air Zoom packet that runs across the entire sole of this shoe. This gives this model a high degree of bounce and responsiveness for things like HIIT.
In my Nike Air Zoom TR 1 review, I put this shoe through a wide range of tests to see if this shoe is worth investing in.

Overall, I like the Nike Air Zoom TR 1 for specific types of workouts but I'm failing to see its utility for most.
For example, I think this shoe will have its limitations for strength sessions and for individuals with wider and flatter feet.
If you want that shoe that can work specifically for classes, HIIT, and some light strength work then this shoe will hit - and it's important to remember that this shoe is designed for that specific scope of training.

@@thatfitfriend I’m really liking the Inov8, still wondering if perhaps I should have ordered my usual size, I followed the consensus and went up half a size to 10.5 based on my size 10 in Nike (especially after having to take a belt sander to the insoles of my old Romaleos to provide enough room in the toe box so it didn’t feel like a toe coffin) and I have wondered if there’s a touch too much wiggle room, especially on my smaller foot (unhelpfully there’s nearly half a size difference between left and right) but I can’t fault the shoes. They (the Inov8’s) have been extremely comfortable, excellent flexibility in the forefoot to promote/facilitate more natural movement, solid feel on the heel and superb grip from the sole. The only criticisms I could levy at them from my admittedly limited use is the quality of the stitching on the strap, the fragility of the hook portion of the Velcro and how little it seems to be stitched in on the body of the shoe is a bit disappointing, it don’t feel as secure as the Romaleos straps and similar. Haven’t tried the Vivo yet, waiting for them to arrive lol.

@@PrivacyTermsCopyriii I hear ya. The Inov-8 will def have a lighter feeling with their upper compared to the Rom 4s builkier build. IMO, if you're not having heel slip issues or sliding too much in the toe box then the sizing is prob just fine!

Also did a Murph with it and running part was absolutely great. there was a nike discount and bought it like 50 bucks aboulte bargain.

Exactly my thoughts indeed: nice shoe for beginners and overweight people who are back to training after a long break, my case. I've been doing HIIT at a very intense rate before a work accident that forced me to undergo a rotator cuff surgery: no shoulder, no training 😑 Now that I'm back in the "business" I really enjoy those shoes, they're not THAT narrow to me, and my feet are flat and wide (specially with 25 kilos more than a year ago !). I can't fit in the Free Metcons or Nike Volley Ball shoes like the Zoom Hyperspeed for example, thats' why I do HIIT cardio plyo: I'm a 5.3 "tall" libero that needs explosiveness and speed, flexibility more than weightlifting, my go to exercise at warm ups are the burpees, best warm up for VB players IMHO. Like I've already said in your other video about these shoes, yeah I agree that they have to be mixed with other shoes like the Nano X1 to X3 (those were my go to shoes for years) that I'll use again when i'll get stronger with these TR1s, and also the Metcon Turbos that are more "barefoot" kind of, when my joint will get stronger. I've got some old but gold Metcon 7s that I love for weightlifting, really strong and stable heel plate. Rotating sure is the key to keep motivation ;-)

Hey I appreciate your content. Subscribed a couple months back and have found your reviews helpful. I notice you review a wide range of fitness shoes. Any chance you could explain why you work out with both barefoot/minimalist shoes and traditional fitness shoe brands (Nike, adidas, Reebok, etc.) that aren’t minimalist? I would appreciate it.

  • @thatfitfriend

    @thatfitfriend

    6 ай бұрын

Ay, thanks for that! I rotate based on what I'm feeling and the workout I'm doing. I look at shoes as tools designed to help me accomplish different tasks. Instead of going all in on one style of shoe like a barefoot shoe, for example, I like to vary what I use based on what will help me perform my best. Some workouts I like an elevated heel while others I want more ground feel and a lower stack height. It's personal preference along with what helps me perform my best!

@@thatfitfriend I do some calisthenics and lifting routine to hipertrophy/strength. Some of the favorite shoes ive had were nike free trainer 5.0 and nike free x metcon. I like those ecause you can go for little runs, sprints, plyometrics and even HIIT on those. Most comfortable shoes ive used for train. The thing is that when you carry some weight you can feel how the sole is being squeezed. Right now im using a "cheap" option called nike flex control tr 4 while i decide which one to buy. I have to mention last year i started doing deadlifting and i liked, i felt with more control while doing it barefoot. I want to start doing more powerlifting moves, so i heard about RYDERWEAR shoes. I was planning on buying the D-MAK. would you recommend me those? i also like to do sprints, in plane and uphill. sometimes i even did it using some pegasus, but i prefer firmer shoes. i was planning to buy the nike rival waffle to do that. hope you can get me your opinion. So I bought a pair of these and the dropset trainer 2's a few months ago and right from the start I loved the dropset trainer's but i didn't care much for the Nikes, they were uncomfortable and i felt for the price I should have gotten something better. Fast forward to now and I really like these Nike's , it took several training sessions to break in but once they did, they became one of my favorite cross training shoes. I wear them on upper body days and for most metcons and wear the dropset's on leg day. I wear a 10.5 in both of these shoes for reference.

Hi Jake, I bought a couple of shoes to try. These were one of them and I'm still pretty unsure what to buy. I went to the gym when I played American Football but stopped after an injury an decided to focus more on music and university. This year I wanted to start again and look a bit more for my physical and mental health so I got a wellpass from my job and decided to hit the gym again. I don't plan on doing heavy lifting. More lifting with machines and cardio(treadmill, cycling, rowing machine and swimming). I bought a Nike Metcon 9, Nike Air Zoom Tr1 and an Adidas Rapidmove ADV. I'm not really sure which shoe is the best for my needs and struggling to decide which I should keep or if I should look out for a totally different shoe. Sorry for my bad English and greetings from Germany

I'd stick with the Air Zoom TR 1 or Rapidmove. Metcon 9 will be meh for cardio work. Think you'll be fine with either and you can always pivot as you get more into and niche. No stress or overthinking!

Hi Jake A little advice: i am looking for a new pair of gym shoes and not too sure which one to get. I usually go to the gym 5 days a week but two sessions are all dedicated to running (around 10 k per session), while the other 3 times are for chest, arms and legs training. What would you suggest? I would not want to spend lot of money..not more than 120 dollars

RAD ONE, UA TriBase Reign 6, Haze (if you want a shoe for a lot of daily wear), Nano X4 - all will give you a bit more for lifting and can also be used for HIIT/CrossFit. These are also solid, though, if you're not super concerned with stability when lifting and CrossFit.
