One of the real gems to come out of the 80s. So tasteful and well crafted. And superb live.

Nik Kershaw did the original recording in 1984.

Ok so I'm gonna say this, as my daughter tells me, i'm an ageing '80s child..But seriously, How f..kin good does this guy still sound? The talent in the '80s, singer song writers who still sound as good today as they did then...legend :) Thanks for posting this, put a huge smile on my face

The one thing nik is he is a great lyricist ,if you read the lyrics to the songs you appreciate just how clever he is with words.Another 80s icon.

Quite a solid performance. I'm impressed. Not even a Nick Kershaw fan. Just here because I liked this song when I was young.

SUCH a great song, and SO SO well done! This is THE BEST version of this song on the internet!

Nik totally nailed this live and the backing band totally nailed it too... I hate the word ‘awesome’ but this was a truly Awesome performance.

I thought this song was amazing in the 80s. This kicks even more ass. Live horns and handclaps? What a great, sympathetic band!

Music coming form a genius , he was way ahead of his time. I've been a Nik fan since 1984 , been there ever since, The best music in the world you'll never find in the commercial charts today , unlike 30 + years ago . But just search for it , and you'll find it. The songs that really touches your heart is out there.

Man what a song and performance. This was one of my favorite songs, just a masterpiece of emotion and insight.

He's even better than in the 80's. Love this song & just listened to the earlier version. :) Those 80's had the best music!!

I'm not normally a fan of live versions of songs that I really like, but i this case, I'll make an exception. They did an absolutely outstanding job of making the song sound like the studio version, and the band was really on top of its game. Oh, and Kershaw did pretty well too (LOL just kidding; he was outstanding!).

I was around 10, when this song came out on radio. Life was, ah, great ..... 😁

What a fucking song. Absolute journey in melody. I loved this song as a small boy. It still grows on me.

I completely agree...There are no words to describe how prolific a writer Nik is and was. The Mozart of Pop/Rock.

This is hands down the best live-version of this tune! Nik sounds awesome as always, BUT the band NAILS it! Even the trombone player nails the backing vocals. Awesome!

This is my favorite version of the song, his voice is better here better then when he was younger!!

Brilliant. Wouldn't it be good to be able to sing with this band! I love the bass line - what a cool bunch of guys.

The early 80's was just the best time,great artists,great songs,great singers,they were difficult songs to sing ,shows how talented they all were,rock on the 80's .

It's rare when the live version lives up to, if not surpasses the studio cut... this is one of those times.

You are so right. I was living in a rat infested apartment when this song came out and it helped pull me thru. Fantastic sound and he looks sincere at his message. I will spread it on my KZread and Facebook account.

How did he ever get a drummer like Vinnie Colaiuta back in the 80's to play with him? It is like having Bill gate or Steve Job selling computers at a retail store. That certainly raised his reputation in the sheer musical level. I used to think he was nothing but a "one-hit wonder" artist. Now I listen very carefully of his music. Thanx for posting.

What an excellent performance!!! I always knew there was something special to Nik's writing when I was listening to his hits during the 80's. A great musician and songwriter who has got me feeling all nostalgic for my teens again.

One of my favorite songs from the 80's.

He still sounds as fresh as back in the day, and it's still a tune to kill for. Marvellous!

Hands down, one of my favorite all time videos of a live show, a great song to begin with, and then a hugely talented backing band. The icing and cherry on top of this cake is the surprise of just an awesome horn section, that easily elevates the music/song and video to an 11 as a highly enjoyable audio experience for the ears and mind.

After 30 years not many singers can sound so close to the original studio version. Very good... you still great Nik

The set design is very beautiful and is perfect for the song ... his voice and singing remains as amazing as it was many years ago (cry tears of joy its true) .. that 80s vibe is wonderful throughout ..

His voice has improved with age,he has a warmer tone, I occasionally do this track and wide boy,on my solon gigs,in my 80's set !!

Well done Nick. Employed a real Horn section on this great composition. Live!!!! Amazing to see Artists using musicians live for once. Good on ya son.

Real horns were not something you heard much of in the '80s in pop-rock, and it was so refreshing. To hear it live with real horns is incredible - beats the hell out of the synthesized Live Aid performance. Proud to say that tho the song was not a significant hit here in the USA, it is without a doubt my favorite song of the entire 1980s. Fantastic bitter lyric set to a bright catchy tune - my favorite combo!

Great song and the lyrics will make the song live on forever.

It's a chord progression, for example in the key C that would be C (first) F (fourth) G (fifth)
