Tom’s 3 bet is kind of punt city in a vacuum, but if Nik’s check raises are like K9 or some BS while he traps the nuts and sets, it makes a lot of sense to try to get him to commit more on the come. Also he got value+draw combo hands completely crushed and there's a lot of them. Way too many combos to fold and thats why Tom was mad at himself for a second there before making the call. I think he was wrong to be mad tho. This is the kind of oppo You wanna let him have the rope to hang himself with. Sooner the money goes in the better because Tens are not an easy hand to play with almost any turn card. Personally I think top set should be 4 betting there a lot as airball. With bottom sets pot control and seeing the turn might be better idea. Quite often top set gets it in really good against a smaller set but the action might be killed on a bad turn card. Depends on how deep tho ofc.

If he’d got anything of substance he’d have flopped it & set the trap; he didn’t & Dwan knew it. That’s why Dwan instantly says “I think I’m calling”, just to make sure it wasn’t a double bluff in his head, but then he looked up and realised he wasn’t calling against Ivey, Antonious, or Negreanu; and it was just flavour of the month top amateur Nik Airball; who was already on massive tilt after losing a million in 20 minutes; then he gets his own mind straight & makes the relatively easy call.

They apparently banned him from playing in the world championship on the basis that nobody else would enter when the best they could possibly finish was 2nd. He was arguably one of, if not the best poker player ever as well. He had massive problems with addiction though, both drugs and sports gambling (which he wasn't good at). To the point where he was too bankrupt or high to enter or stay the course of many big poker events. He still won the main event twice though I believe. There was a story of him playing one of the top gin rummy pros in a high stakes game and his personal bodyguard pointed out to him at one point that his opponent was looking at the bottom card every time he finished the shuffle, giving him a huge advantage in gin. Stu said he was aware of that and was taking him to the cleaners anyway, the guy was only still playing because he thought he had a big advantage and could turn it around, if Stu called him on it then no way the guy would have played on.

Really interesting hand how Dwan felt he was lighting 289k on fire and insulting himself and Airball being in shock that he called. I have seen some pros call with really weak hands and lose and tell or show they were weak so nobody bluffs them. I also saw a hand that was 27 vs KKKK and the guy with 27 bluffed so well in the hand it fooled the guy with KKKK to reraise him. People can praise Dwan for the call but he thought he was donking his money away. It is like he called out of spite. Just like the 27 player "who lost a lot of money in the hand" completely fooled the KKKK player. Poker is hard.
