Nigloland Review | The Weird French Disneyland Knock-Off

Ойын-сауық

Located just 2.5 hours away from Disneyland Paris is a very beautiful, but also very strange regional theme park with an assortment of attractions very very similar to some of the more famous ones we might be familiar with at Disney parks around the world. Nigloland was created by two brothers who wanted to bring the Magic of Disney to France, and did so by developing a charming family friendly destination for locals to enjoy quality rides and attractions. Let's dive into the details of this park and what makes it work!

    A "knock off" implies "bad". But this is not. The theming and upkeep is excellent (even the animatronics). The way the attractions interact with each other, and the sight lines. You see exactly what they want you to see in each spot. Nothing more, nothing less. That is the immersive "magic".

    For a bit of history, Nigloland was founded by Carnivals Workers who settled and made their own theme park. The Brothers Patrice and Phillipe Gélis visited the US, and of course WDW, and were pleased by the idea of a park with a one ticket entry. You can find a museum of circus and fairs inside the park.

    Hey, Troyes resident here. This is my childhood park, and I'm so proud it got so beautiful, it's an amazing experience just to walk in the alleys of Nigloland, the food is really nice and best of all, it's still cheap compared to the other parks in France. So if you planned to visit Troyes, pay a visit to Nigloland, or the other way around. Worth it.

    Someone of all people should know that the middle of nowhere is the perfect place to build a park! Plenty of space to grow (and put in new rides), and no neighbors have to worry about any noise. And plenty of wilderness to get away from the urbanized cities. I find it to be quite picturesque! It's a win, win, win all-around, and I can see why it is a people-pleaser. It just looks like a fun, well-themed, well-thought out park, with tons of room for growth. What's not to love? I love it when I learn about new parks, and it seems that if I'm ever in France, I'll have to make note to visit. Edit: I cannot believe that Nigloland literally means "Hedgehog Land"! I find that to be quite charming.

    Yeah. Plus land is often cheap out in the rural country. Many people who have started amusement parks in the past have formerly been farmers. Plus if its placed well it can often be attractive for people from several cities to drive out there for a daytrip, rather than just attract the audience of a single city.

    @@drdewott9154 Those are all very good points too! I'm sure that many of the commenters here who have claimed Nigloland as their home park represent a small portion of a vast population of annual pass holders. Being equidistant to at least a few major population centers is definitely with it's benefits. Plus, it is also a nice way to avoid congestion. The area around the Disney area is notorious for traffic jams, as anyone who has visited the area multiple times can attest to. Floridians who know better avoid the area if possible for that very reason.

    This place just looks really neat. Just a super prestine mid size park perfect for locals or anyone else in the region. Like Nigloland seems like a realistic standard that many small and midsized parks could and should strive for. This is also just a fun fact but the park used to have a Schwarzkopf Jet star back in the day with a mountain facade. It was named Bobsleigh, and as you can guess, it was pretty much their answer to Disneylands Matterhorn Bobsleds.

I saw him grow up and become a park that doesn’t have to be ashamed of big parks like Disney Paris or Asterix. Yes, it is placed in the middle of nowhere. And precisely ! We were very lucky that such a quality park was created here. To sum up, I would say: A clean park, maintained attractions and almost never broken down. A welcoming staff close to the clientele, attentive. A gem in the heart of a natural setting, beautiful and relaxing. I love Nigloland :) And yes, I know the Niglo Show by heart, from the text to each intonation of each animatronics XD

    The scary thing about this is that France has Disneyland Paris, and when Japan got an official Disney park in 1983, the knock off park (Nara Dreamland) was killed. This, somehow, is still alive. I'll never not be frightened nor turned off by that.

  • @SlushysSecret

    I believe that Nara Dreamland is closer to Tokyo Disneyland while this park is farther from Disneyland Paris, so people from Tokyo choose the better alternative that was nearby which is why Nara lost all of its guests

  • @plateo_3234

    @plateo_3234

    22 күн бұрын

    @@SlushysSecret There is also the fact that, well, Disneyland Paris is not that popular with the French public. Here we often hear that it is a park for passing American tourists.Other French theme parks rank higher in critical opinion especially when looking at demographic groups other than children. For example, according to surveys carried out over time, french adults greatly prefer Parc Astérix and Puy du Fou compared to Disneyland. I think that's what allows this kind of parks to survive, and even develop: they stick more to what the local public expects. Regarding Nigloland specifically, we should also remember that although this video presents it as a copy of Disneyland, the park is not at all the same scale. Nigloland is much smaller, on a more family scale, and also costs MUCH less per day than Disneyland.

    I mean, Europa Park is effectively another brazen Disney knock-off - EpCot in this case, with a sprinkle of Magic Kingdom for good measure. The Mack family never even pretended to give any other origin story. And frankly, EP only ever got as big as it is because of the massive capital Mack Rides generates in the back, and its 20ish year headstart over Disney Paris. Only very recently they've been trying harder to carve out their own style and stories and it was much needed.

  • @verybighomer

    @verybighomer

    28 күн бұрын

    They took more than a few bits of inspiration from Disney in the beginning, but the park has found its own concept in displaying European countries in a beautiful way quite some time ago. The new Croatia section seems lovely for example. I think you overestimate the "massive capital" of Mack Rides. Europa-Park started as a possibility to showcase their rides, but has long left Mack Rides behind. Europa-Park is about 4 or 5 times bigger in revue and has 18 times more employees (average, seasonal 25 times).

    To be a true representation of America, that area should have priority to cars (with limited sidewalks/bike lanes), and have long stroads, filled with strip malls with Best Buys, Walmart, Applebees, McDonalds etc. It could also feature a dark ride called “Private Healthcare” which could feature scenes of various Americans getting cancer, diabetes, etc and then shown a huge hospital bill that isn’t covered by their already ridiculously priced private health insurance. Phase 2 could expand with an NRA-themed ride where you get to play the “good guy with a gun, stopping a bad guy with a gun”. Also, pollution and littering in this land is not only permitted, it’s encouraged. 😂

    Nigloland is NOT The 3rd most visited theme park in FR. This park is far behind... In 2023 the 1st was DLP with 9,93 million, 2de Wall Disney Studios 5,34 million , 3rd Parc Asterix with 2.8 million visitors, 4 is Puy du Fou with 2.5 million, 5th Futuroscope with 2 million .6th Le Pal with 750 0000 and Nigloland had only 700 000.

    @@CoasterStudios Maybe your site only counted "classic" amusement parks. In the rankings, Puy du Fou is not always considered an amusement park, and is therefore removed from the lists.

    Most ranking also seem to exclude the Jardin d'Acclimatation from their lists. It usually come fifth or so.
