This was actually pre Marko. It was recorded in the year 2000. The song sends shivers through me and gives me goosebumps. Amazing. I always love seeing the metal crowd enjoying and getting so involved with Walking in the Air. Has to be seen to be believed. A great performance by the band and perfection from Tarja.

This was recorded on December 29, 2000. In the club in Tampere, Finland. Marko joined in 2001. Left in 2021. This is #Babywish at this point the albums are Angels fall first (97), Oceanborne (98) , Wishmaster (2000), Marko joins them on Century Child (02) and Once (05). Along with an EP in 01 we have Over The Hills and Far Away. That EP is where you find the original version and video for Sleeping Sun. This was song 1 of 4 of an encore. The song is from an animated Christmas movie out in 81 iirc. Been awhile since I looked it up. The songs Tuomas sung would be on Angels fall first. They got signed and had money to hire guest singers before hiring Marko who doubled as male lead vocals and bass after the 1st bassist fired. He and Tarja got along well. No personal feelings here but Tuomas was not a strong singer. Don't know if he ever did learn. Tarja, Marko and, Floor to no one's shock I am sure have classical training. All of them over 40 Marko is 10 years older then Tarja was the one who least took care of his voice. But my point is for their years their voices weren't destroyed. Jukka retired from drumming in 14, now is a manager. They added both Troy and the Other Jukka since. Now on hiatus. I don't follow the band to know if they found a new bassist and male lead singer in one or will they have 2 more members.

This beautiful song in combination with the Nightwish sound and Tarja's voice, match made in heaven.

​@purplebutterflywithabrokenwing Also some timeliness (if this helps you): - 1996-2000 the basist is Sami and Tarja their singer - 2001-2005 Marko joins and Tarja is their lead singer still (2006: they are making the new album and searching who could be the new singer) - 2007-2012 Tarja has already left and Anette joins and then is replaced by Floor in 2012. (Troy also comes into the picture) - 2013 Floor and Troy become official members - somewhere around 2014 Jukka leaves and Kai becomes the new drummer. - 2021- Today, Marko is replaced by another Jukka as a basist. So, only founding members that are left are Tuomas and Emppu.

This was a year before Marco joined, he joined in 2001 and Marco left Nightwish 20 years later in 2021. The only originals, the founder Tuomas and the amazing Emppu on guitar. Essentially though Nightwish is Tuomas, since he is the founder and almost all songs begin in his brilliant mind. Floor and Troy officially entered in 2013, though Troy was with them several years prior, and Floor joined with 48 hours notice in 2012. Kai the drummer, replaced Jukka in 2014, because of insomnia, but Jukka is still with band management. Kai came from a group Wintersun to Nightwish, along with Marco's replacement, another Jukka also from Wintersun.

Great reaction and t-shirt. This performance is from their From Wishes To Eternity concert in 2000. Amazing concert, everyone is full of energy and every song is well performed and you can see how all the members are still friends. Tuomas is completely frenetic behind the keyboards, and Emppu and Tarja have also great interactions during the concert. Everyone enjoyed the performance, except maybe Sami, who Tuomas fired soon after and replaced him with Marko. Tuomas said in the documentary End of an Innocence (2003) that he would regret for the rest of his life that he could not tell Sami himself because he was his longtime friend. Paradoxically, a few years later he fired Tarja in an even worse way. You say the names of the individual members correctly and I really appreciate the effort to find them out from the description of the video. This is a rare thing in reactors. You pronounce Jukka's name correctly too. He always seemed to dance to the drums. This song is amazing. Tarja also sings it every year as an encore at her Christmas concerts in her own arrangement.

It was thanks to this Nightwish song that I discovered the cartoon "The Snowman", because it was never aired in my country.

This was in 2000 pre Marko with Sami Vanska on bass. Marko joined in 2001 and his departure was announced in 2021. The band are all in their early 20s here - roughly 23/24 ish.

found NW during Annette's reign, so have listened to it all, I love NW, all 3 singers are excellent.....but different, no since trying to compare as it is impossible, just sit back and enjoy them all as they all have lovely voices, do I have a preference....Floor, but still enjoy Tarja and Annette very much. I also enjoy Annette's work with Dark Element. But Floor calls me to battle, makes me cry, sends shivers down my spine, and have heard the demon she can bring...........TY NIGHTWISH

I'm a little late to the party, but thank you sharing your reaction of this song. It's amazing what music does isn't it, can take you right back. I don't know where the last 20 odd years have gone, but this era of the band (and not to take anything away from the current incarnation) was particularly special (including Marco of course). Check year 1993, 1994 and 1996 too. There are some videos pre NW times too. At this conceret in 2000 they did a big step forward. Amazing concert in general. They had done their third album just and after soon...Marco joined and replaced Sami for the next album Century Child.

This is one of three versions of this song i hold very dear. The others are by Jarkko Ahola (solo) and by the members of Northern Kings (Jarkko Ahola, JP Lepäluoto, Tony Kakko and Marko Hietala) except that Marko wasn't there so Johanna Kurkela (Tuomas' wife) joined them. This one is with Finnish lyrics. If you like give them a listen, they are really beautiful.

Songs from first three albums were performed here. Song Walking in the air is so magical, Christmas song, I love it very much. @@purplebutterflywithabrokenwing Large amplified speakers connected to the PC. The voice was low but can be brought up to an easy listening level. But when music comes on it is blasting mightily. If you cannot match the audio levels do not worry about it. I was pointing it out in case you were unaware of how different the levels are.

Hi there I like all the singers of NW but... Singers in general sing what they are capable of, but Floor sings what and how to sing anything And unfortunately Anette wasn't always as good live as Tarja or Floor so studio versions are better mostly Greetings from Sweden

Surprisingly few know that the singing part is not "live" in this video.. Tarja had to sing it again in the studio for the DVD because they had problems with the recording. You can find that story in the old Nightwish book. Guitar and other instruments are live.

Emppu says in the book that they agreed in advance that everyone wanted the performance to be perfect, but that they agreed in advance that if they made any drastic mistakes, they would correct it in the studio for DVD. In the end, they ended up touching few drum beats, adding some keyboards, and Emppu says he thinks Tarja recorded the vocals for Walking in the Air. But she sang the other songs live on DVD.
