Thank you for doing this. I’ve been a Pink Floyd fan since high school (that’s been a while) but High Hopes never really grabbed me. Lyrically, yes, but the original version struck me as “merely” good, just not great. Then I discovered Nightwish about 8 months ago and saw their interpretation of it. The immediacy and poignancy Nightwish brought to the song had me in tears. Now, here you two are, sharing this version by Pink Floyd that I’ve not seen before and wow, here, in Gilmore’s world where time and friends have passed, is the poignancy, so thank you. Now I have two versions of this song to cry with. ✌🤘

This old Metal head, (I’m pretty sure I’m old enough to be both you guys fathers) who has been a fan of Pink Floyd for over 50 years, seen them 3 times, Fan of Nightwish for over 20 years, my bucket list because I’ve never seen them live. My favorite song by Pink Floyd is High Hopes ( if I was force to choose from their great catalog). Nightwish version tribute to Pink Floyd’s High Hopes brought this old biker to tears. They made it their own and even more emotional. I actually like it better but still wearing out my vintage vinyl of Pink Floyd. Isn’t life grand when you can enjoy it to the fullest! Huge Pink Floyd fan here. I especially love early Floyd with Syd. I'm also a HUGE Gilmour fan. High Hopes never really caught my ear for some reason. I never really was drawn to the song, but the High Hopes tribute by Nightwish, it touched me differently. For some reason their tribute resonates with me. Marko is just magical here, the sounds, the music, it just makes me feel.

Other way around for me... I found high hopes only after I exhausted all of PF catalogue and then... boom there was this gem, a hark from the past. NW is a tribute, and rightly so, as the song (the bell at the beginning, birds, meadows etc) is so Cambridge and Floyd.. Its a look back at their youth, time with Syd etc. Super sad if you think about it. Be well Rozzy!!

For the boys from Nightwish, this was absolutely emotional. After that concert, they gave Tarya the letter, where they, more or less, fired her. Having her, doing a custume change and performing without her, must have been like a taste of the future By the way. Jukka (the drummer) had a bad migrabe that evening, and he still beat the shit out of those drums.

The Islander from Tampere or the music video, and While your lips are still red from Wembley. Sadly at the beginning of the year he announced that he was leaving the band and taking time away from the music industry; It was a shock as he has been a BIG part of Nightwish for the last 20-odd years, but he gave us many great performances like this :)

I only discovered Nightwish last year, and the first few times I saw the Nightwish version I did not know that. Litteraly got chills when I realized that THIS was the last concert with Tarja and it brought a whole new horizon of what the song meant to the members of the band on stage while they were performing the song. Well done guys, two amazing songs. So glad you got to experience it but my god you kept us waiting with bated breath for this to be uploaded lol! Well worth the wait chaps :) Might not be your bag, but would be familiar to you I suspect, from that same concert featuring High Hopes, You may want to check out Phantom of the Opera, so you can see Tarja, the original singer and Marko singing together, even more powerfully believe it or not, he was holding back on the high Hopes song lol. This concert you watched as well, was the final performance with the original singer, she was fired after the show, a long and messy story and a source of great division in the community at times. I am fortunate enough to have seen all three singers live with Nightwish during my 21 years following them, and they are all great in their own ways. Bit of trivia, during High Hopes you see the drummer with his head in his hands, his name is Jukka, believe it or not he had a migraine throughout that entire concert. Perhaps brought on by the knowledge that they were about to fire the singer, they all look somewhat melancholy as they all knew. Keep em coming guys, loving your journey!

There is no version with Tarja of this for the simple reason that Nightwish did covers with Marko singing in their concerts specifically so their female leads could take a small break. There are a few other great ones that also only exist as live recordings since none of these were ever recorded by them in a studio. As for others covering Nightwish, sadly nothing by Pink Floyd, but I've recently discovered, thanks to other reactors, that Gregorian have done an excellent cover of the perfect choice of a Nightwish song for their style - Meadows Of Heaven. Might be worth a similar two in one reaction.

Thank you this video made my day. I have been a Pink Floyd fan since the 70's and a Nightwish fan since 1999. I love both versions of this song.

Really great reaction. If you wanna go for Nightwish's original female lead singer Tarja Turunnen, check out "Phantom of the Opera" from the very same concert. Tarja wasn't on stage because she was redressing during this tribute. Have fun.
