A little background may help. The key board player is Tuomas Holopainen. Tuomas composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. When he wrote this song he was in a deep depression. I won't get into why right now. Tuomas writes songs to get his feelings out. So he wrote about a suicide, because that is how some people deal with things. So by writing about it, it stops him from considering it. This is a real short version. I would have suggested something different. Something not as depressing. Here is a couple of songs that are upbeat. "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013. "Song of Myself" live at Wacken 2013. Actually any song from that concert would be great. I hope this did not turn you off to Nightwish. They have a over 100 songs. They are not all that depressing. Tuomas has written all kinds of songs.......... :-) Keep on playing Nightwish and that should help your numbers somewhat! hehehe

Actually, the guitarist came to chat with the keyboardist because the song, written by the keyboardist, is very emotionally taxing for him. Up to the point that he used to have his monitors muted for parts of the song. It describes the darkest moments in his life, deep depression and suicidal thoughts, after they fired a childhood friend from the band. In his own dramatical description he "committed a suicide through the song because he couldn't do it in reality".

  • @flashpeter625

    5 жыл бұрын

@@clairlestrange It's probably a part of it, but I think there are more pragmatic reasons as well. The song does not really fit the concept of the last album, and the shows of the 2015/2016 tour were built around that. The 2018 tour was to celebrate 20 years of the band, and so they played more of the rarer songs. This song is also quite long, and there's only that many long songs one can fit in a show. Whatever has Tuomas said, I think they might play it in the future if it fits and they feel like it.

Emotional roller coast ride just like Tuomas (the song writer) felt in 2005 when he swam in these deep waters with his thoughts when he had to make a choice between firing his dear friend (current singer) or to bury the band (his dear "child"). Finally it was easier to fire the vocalist (Tarja Turunen) because she was in any case leaving the band after the next album and starting her solo career. 🤣🤣🤣 Your face was pretty hilarious when Marco (the bassist/2nd vocalist) started to sing - well, scream like an angry viking warrior at this time at 11:00. You should react to his singing as well sometime. Nice to hear that somebody has to cut his grass at the same time when we are shoveling the frigging snow in here! 🤣

And while Tarja is operatically superior Floor can do everything. OK, you need some backstory to this amazing song. The guy on the keys is Tuomas. Nightwish is his brainchild and he has composed and written a vast majority of the songs since the beginning in 1996. In 2005 the rest of the band agreed (this is a whole new can of worms which I will not go into atm) that the lead singer Tarja of the past 9 years should leave the band. It was a tough time for everyone, the fans, the band and especially Tuomas, who thought that the thing that he had poured his whole life into over the past 9 years was ending. He fell into a depression and for a while it seemed that everything would indeed end. But my boy Tuomas, even though gentle as all artists and musicians are, said he would not allow it and wrote this song. The lyrics and the music tell us what he was going through at the time and probably still feels to some degree today. The rest of the band knows this, which is why when they play this song (as it is a fan favourite), he will have the sound engineers not play the poem part to him, as it is too much for him to bear and both the guitar and bass player would walk up to him and talk to him to see how he's doing. Here you saw him smiling, because he knew that everything will be ok now, as now with the new singer Floor, they've become more popular and successful than ever before, even after all those years ago things seemed as dark as they could possibly get. Now go listen to it again and pull up the lyrics. ;)

React to Rianbow - Stargazer or Gates of Babylon singer is Ronni James Dio and since the 1970's 90% of rock and Metal singers tried to sound like him..training?? He was a choirboy in New York, and later played trumpet, before a gig he takes a pint of Guinness and smokes half a joint and goes on stage sounding like this...did that his whole life until 2010 when he died of stomach cancer, yet recorded six months prior his last Black Sabbath album.

Sooooooooo..... There you are with a real nightwish experience. If you want an even better show and experience, listen to 'greatest show on earth' live at Tampere, it's their 21 minute masterpiece, and every second is worth it. If you want to hear something from their history, as they had three singers, go with phantom of the opera live at end of an era for tarja (the first one) and scaretale for anette live at I have no idea where, but you should be able to find it (it should be the official live version). I know I'm pretty much the only one suggesting Annette, but for knowing nightwish, I think you should know all 3. Oh, and your reaction was great 😊

That song is written by Tuomas Holopainen after what happend to the band in 2005. When Tuomas felt that his child and his lifework. The Nightwish was going down to the drain, and entire world hated him and everybody blamed him for what happend to Tarja Turunen (the first singer of Nightwish) Tuomas wrote this song instead of committing a suicide, it's full of metaphors for all the emotions he felt after the band forced him to fire Tarja. Nightwish is everything to Tuomas and situation was.. Fire Tarja or the band will split apart, and he couldn't let that happen and then the media and fans turned on him and blamed him for Tarja's firing. Tuomas and Tarja were childhood friends and they went to school together and that crushed him so bad to have to fire her and he went into a deep depression after that. The band was formed in 1996 by Tuomas and Tarja together with Emppu Vuorinen who was also a schoolmate of Tuomas and Tarja. Tuomas lyrics are just genius... And this song is his suicide instead of the real one.

Band didn't force Tuomas to fire Tarja. Tuomas, Marco, Jukka and Emppu all did the decision together. The time before firing Tarja was really difficult, full of anger and sadness. The desicion was nothing but easy. But like you said, it was the lifework of Tuomas that was in line and he wasn't ready to give up on that. And yes, there was people who blamed Tuomas that they kicked Tarja out, but not all. Basically there was two groups; fans who believed the band and fans who believed Tarja. And I think it was Tuomas who got most of the shit 'cause he dealt all the public shit storm, and he was the "voice" of the letter, he wrote it, though all the members signed it.

6:25 Just thought I'd point out that while the guitarist (Emppu) is going over to have a chat with Tuomas at the keyboards, the bass player (Marco) goes over to Emppu's pedals to unmute the guitar for him. You know, 'cause being that relaxed is completely normal when playing infront of thousands of people. :D
