I'm wondering how hard sell this was to the rest of the band 😀 Floor promised to Henk they do this during the BZ but obviously could only talk for herself and then ask the band once the show had aired.

this was after her surgery to be cancer free she was still recovering. quick recap (most of this is public )she was DXed in October surgery was around Oct she had aprox 2 or 3 weeks recovery first time on stage November 20 2022 this was November 27 2022 as far as what is known the Nightwish Army is aware she had radiation in January just to keep cancer free

Holy Balls, Henk is killing me EVERY damn time. Comes onto the stage, looking more like my grandpa playing the janitor of the opera and then proceeding to completely and uttelry slay this piece! What a damn legend that man is!

Not only was he Netherlands original Phantom, but also Valjean (!). That's pretty epic

As always, a super analysis with a lot of background knowledge. I waited 2 years for this song and of course the rest of the concert ( 3 years with ticket purchase ) . You can't imagine how Henk was celebrated by the fans at the first concert. These two concerts were an unforgettable experience and I am glad to have been there. I was there.... every time I see this, I still can't believe I was actually there. It was epic, loved every minute of the concert!!!!

Hi Jen! This was the first time that Nightwish performed this song in more than 17 years, which they used to do frequently with Tarja. They tried to keep it a surprise, leaving it off the pre-show set list, and sound checking it only in their ears. They only did this at the two Amsterdam shows. Keep exploring Nightwish and Floor.

I timed, with a chronograph, how long Floor held that D6 at the end....12.2 seconds! The Valkyrie Queen can do no wrong!!! Excellent breakdown of the whole song! Oh...I think the announced audience ( this was Nightwish's second concert at the same venue...back to back nights ) was 17,000. So...yes a lot of people! Now...if Nightwish would come to Texas...I would go...dispute being disabled!!!

I concur. The timer on YT says a little less, but I trust my stopwatch. That's HALF AGAIN as long as she held on Beste Zangers. Talk about god-tier stuff????

I am an amputee in a wheelchair and I went to Chicago by bus from Detroit by myself to see Nightwish last May. It was one of the best nights of my life.

Thank you for a wonderful analysis! I was lucky enough to be there that magical evening together with my wife and 16998 other crazy Nightwish fans. And let me tell you, when they started pkaying this the place went nuts, and even more so when Henk walked out on stage. The energy in that room was incredible! And as always when Floor flexes her vocal stamina by holding notes for extended periods of time you can hear the audience scream in excitement towards the end of it.

I was there, it was epic❣️ I was bouncing up and down when I realized they were doing this! So great hearing them do the Phantom again with the official Dutch Phantom! It was a surprise I sort of counted on because it was promised in Beste Zangers 2019.

Ohh! Floor and Henk! I have listened to the other performance you referenced many times. This would be amazing to hear live! Floor is just such an amazing and consummate performer ... she could pretty much do whatever she wants in singing. Heck even musical theatre with her amazing stage presence! This one though ... that last note! Wow! Amazing reaction and analysis as always Jennifer. Now go eat! 😊

If this doesn't energize a person, nothing will. I had the honor and privilege to perform at the 2009 AFC championship American Football game at halftime. Over 50,000 people. The adrenaline was hard to control. I was good until we finished, and then I had the shakes for over an hour. Music has been and always will be a part of my heart and soul.

Floor's Voice is..Next Level. She's truly A Talent.

Lovely reaction. This arrangement is very similar to the way Tarja and Marko used to do it back in the day. You should checkout the video from the End of an Era concert for comparison and also to see the best and creepiest Phantom. I think Floor is going for more of the darker operatic tone here where in the Beste Zangers arrangement the pacing and her vocals are brighter and more musical theater in tone. Love both of them.

MARKO'S insane Phantom is the Best, but..I prefer FLOOR'S "Christine" rendition. And her Final power note!💥. But, all the duet versions are incredible.

No doubt about it Tarja is the queen when it comes to this song. Floors a great rock singer, but she's no Tarja! And yeah, I like Marco's style better also. I guess for someone who never heard the original this version might be okay, but Tarja's version is on a whole other level. No doubt about it!

Heya! Great analysis as always! If you wanna hear floor do some more classical singing, I highly recommend "Shoemaker". I'm not sure if there's a good live version. Either way, the ending part of the song has her doing some stunning, dare I say, operatic singing. It's of course an area she's not the most comfortable in but, with a song tailored for her, like shoemaker, it's easier.

I think 'that note' Floor hits at the end of Ghost Love Score now has competition. So great to finally see and hear Nightwish perform this live again. Henk participating is the icing on the cake.

Yeah, the Ziggo holds 17,000 and is the 5th busiest venue in the world, so it's a good crowd. And Floor's and Henke's home country of course. Brilliant as ever.

Both versions Nightwish has done of this song (excluding the studio verion, imo), have been spectacular, but there's something about having an actual singer who played the Phantom with an astoundingly seductive voice who meshes well with Floor and her voice that makes this performance so amazing. I love both versions, but damn - this one has to be my favorite.

I was there that night and it was amazing.

And besides klicks, likes, abos, comments and all else, you simply digest the Performance, they gave for and to us, silenting the Voices discussing Age or wearing out. Thx for this Recap! Stay Healthy! NWA Bavaria North

Of the 3 version I have seen with Floor and Henk, I like this one the best, particularly the ending. But of course all are amazing. (you saw Beste Zangers, the other was her solo Amsterdam 2021 show). Please check out the Nightwish performance of this song from the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD) with Tarja and Marko on vocals.

There is a version of Henk Poort and Joke de Kruyff singing it for the musical gala in the Netherlands. That should give you a good idea of how Henk sounded originally in the theatre production. And yes, it was full, and the atmosphere was great. I was there 😊

Not a big fan of some of the harder metal songs but this one was good, really enjoyed hearing both of them making little changes in their sound as the song progressed! Jenn, you always make it interesting for us! Opened my ears a bit! Would love to talk to you a short bit to tell you about what happened to my voice and how my vocal coach are going about fixing it. Henk's participation was a complete surprise to the audience; there had been no indication that he was there......Floor's final noted was supernatural.....

While watching the video, I realized that I needed to rotate my tires. I waited until Floor started that D6. I went outside, got the jack and jack stands, rotated the tires, came back in, washed my hands in the utility sink, and toweled them dry. I figured I would go back and watch the rest of the video. Floor was still on that note. Love your reactions!

I actually think Henk is getting better and better with the distortion singing, in the Baste Zangers it seemed a bit more of an effort or he had to think about how to get the sound he wanted. Now it seems like over time and obviously practice he can do it like second nature. I also like the duets the two did together on Floor Jansens solo shows.

At Beste Zangers he used distortion for the very first time in his career with Sound Of Silence, the second time was doing the Phantom in the same series (and surprised Floor with it). He went completely against his training and conditioning with that. By the time of this show he had a couple of years of practice. To put it mildly: Henk Poort reached peak opera and found a new challenge in metal.

I just believe everything you say, because why not :D you really strike immediately as a professional

You should listen to the older version from End of an Era next. You'll get to see how Marko rocked the role of the Phantom and see that Henk is singing the way he is as a nod to that. Tarja was wonderful as always but Marko will absolutely blow your mind.

I totally agree. Henk sung with a much more classical musical theater/contemporary style while Marco went full Metal. I’ve heard many amazing singers sing this song, and while Henk is a legend, Marco has always been my favorite by a long shot. .

I can't say anything more than you've said,but! Do vocalists fear confetti 🎊 is it common to inadvertently breath it in? My heart was literally in my mouth when those moths flew by!!!!!!

Also during the stadium concerts last summer (Pinkpop, Hellfest, Deichbrand) it was obvious that Floor held some finishing notes quite longer than before. Really enjoying that. Pity I could only find 30 second fragments of the Dutch version of Phantom of the Opera in the eighties (where the song is called Spook van de Opera) by Henk Poort, and that would not do him justice. Maybe someone else can search better than me.

Well, Floor and Henk seem somewhat talented. 😀 But seriously, an absolutely beautiful performance. It still surprises me sometimes how well Classical and Metal go together. And since you were so excited about the crowd, have a look at this: Blind Guardian - The Bard's Song and Valhalla live in Wacken (kzread.info/dash/bejne/m2F9xbqYksbJdsY.html) And for something Musical-Theater like i suggest Ayreon - Talk Of The Town (kzread.info/dash/bejne/n52j1rqaoa2Tc9Y.html) it has a completely different vibe than Everybody Dies

Oh, I made like 666, don't know if that's good or bad? Anyway, I like your analysis as always. You need to explore explore the voice of Tommy Johansson as well, a magnificient rock tenor. He also have done The Phantom, singing both parts himself. Tommy and Floor are good friends, he has arranged some of her solo music.When not doing his own solowork, he is playing guitar in Sabaton where Hannes Van Dahl, who is married to Floor, is the drummer.

Floor just smells talent, be it Henk Poort, Jørn Viggo Lofstad, Tobias Sammet, Russel Allen or ....

I read from someone who was there that they thought Henk may have had a little difficulty with his ear pieces. The timing was a bit off but was corrected with an edit in the video released. It wasn't huge but it was noticeable live and fixed during video edit.

Reminds me of Davis Gaines' take on Phantom. Always interesting to hear various singers take this on, but none of them have the density and command of the character as Michael Crawford, the original Phantom.
