Tarja has such a special voice and she did beautifully with Tuomas' songs. :) I also always enjoyed her very unique energy on stage, she has a somewhat fantastical flair to her that I find intriguing to watch. ❣ You picked good songs as an introduction to Tarja when she was with Nightwish, can't like every song but to get an impression of her as a singer and what she brought to the band those were good choices :)

You pronounced Tarja pretty well (TAR-YA), except at around 4:40. Nightwish was supposed to be only acoustic mood music, just demo or two, and definitely never live shows. When Tuomas and Emppu went to ask Tarja to sing on their acoustic demo, they had no idea that she had started her classical training (and they were a bit shocked). The girl they knew from high school had totally different sound now. That was where Tuomas decided that they might wanna ditch the acoustic idea and try something else. So on their second demo they switched to electric guitar and brought Jukka on the drums, and the rest is history. That demo became their first album "Angels Fall First". It is amazing to think they all lived in this small town called Kitee. Odds have to be less than 1 in a billion.

And about all the drama...you don't want to believe all the diva bs you are going to hear. Tarja just matured faster than boys and didn't want to have party after every gig or travel on smokey bus with bunch of drunken rock stars. Instead she wanted to be with her husband, who guys didn't like at all, and she wanted shorter tours. Anyone who just give this a thought will understand. Live on the road is not for everyone.

Tarja era was my favourite era. ❤ However, I'm more than happy, that we can continue to enjoy the compositions with Floor. She's amazing as well and definitely fits like a glove into the band.

Tarja is an incredible singer and has gotten a lot better over the years. With her came success. She was the diva in the bands history. Every Nightwish fan knows the reasons for the breakup very well. Since I only got to know the band in 2013 in Wacken with Floor, I don't care about the reasons at all. Together with Floor, Tarja is the voice of Nightwish for me. I really have to think about whether I will watch the episode with Anette. In my opinion, she never had that special something in her personality to be the frontwoman of Nightwish. In the studio she sounded quite nice, but on the live stage she was mostly a total failure.

After hearing Tarja with Nightwish I really recommend for you to check out also some songs from her solo career. Her voice has gotten more bowerful and diverse during the last 18 years. I recommend a song called Shadow Play from Circus Life concert in 2020.

Editing is hard work. I know because I've made deep-dive-analysis videos (with annotations, animations, voiceover narration and effects) for some of my favorite films. People don't understand how much effort is required just to produce a short (10-20 minute) original analysis/commentary video that's of substance. You are going beyond what the basic reactor produces. I understand and appreciate your effort and I hope there are many more people in the fan community who will do as well.

What a wonderful idea to showcase the 3 lead singers for a band we adore. Now that the Nightwish Army has given you some valuable feedback, I am sure you are well on your way. My advice is to skip the drama. I am an OG Nightwish fan. By delving deeply into the drama, I have found it colors my opinion of the members that stayed and went. None of us will ever know what actually took place, so I have chosen to not engage and enjoy all three amazing front women on their own merits. My 2 cents worth.

Great Different Video this is, don´t know if people are gonna like your appreciation about Nemo´s Song, but i like you say your oppinion no matter what.. you took your time to do this and the result is pretty good, i´ve listened to Nightwish almost since the beginning, and i love all eras, Tarja was the original diva and the original muse for Tuomas (keyboards and songwriter of almost everything), he always has been able to take advantage of the artists he has around to make the band the best eveytime and that´s why they´ve last so long, Tarja is a Queen per se, she started this adventure and kept doing her music after they parted apart, no doubt about all that, but Annette and Queen Goddess Floor are part of their story and the magic too, people usually says that Anette didn´t deserve to be fronting for Nightwish but she kept the band together during rainy times and some of their best songs are from this era, i enjoy them all but of course Floor tops for the versativility, keep rocking and stay safe!

Great start to this 3-part series. You picked some good songs to showcase Tarja's vocals. Although I like Nemo, I don't love it like I love 95% of the rest of the Nightwish catalog. I don't know what it is about the song, but I almost feel like skipping it when I listen to the CD (of course I don't, though.) Okay...on to Part 2....

I think it was Tuomas idea to cover the song Phantom and the Opera, he said smth like "it could have just as well have been written by us" because of the lyrics, there is a lot of Beauty and Beast symbolism in his early music, but Tarja loves the song, too and it was one of her main inspirations to pick up classical singing :)

Tarja is the queen of fucking everything. She is considered a reference in her musical style. Her solo career is beautiful, with amazing songs. Some singers were inspired by Tarja to form their careers likes Simone Simons (Epica) and Floor. Anette and Floor are great too, but Tarja is my favorite era of the band. I love Tarja.

Great video! It would have been interesting to hear more details about why you didn't like Nemo. It's pretty average song in my books, too, but it has been surprisingly popular all over the world so it must have something that captivates the minds of many people.

Thanks so much for watching the videos! When @vanessalore9942 asked the same question, I went back and listened to it again. I watched the official video for a different perspective on the song. As I told her, I know exactly what it is I didn't like. The monotonous melody in the weird key...very unpleasant to me. Not saying anything about her voice or her performance. It's the song.

It's probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't really like the songs Nemo and Sleeping sun either. Although, for me it's only two songs, from many albums. I would never think to stop listening to Nightwish because of them. I've known them since 2000. I fell in love with Sleeping Sun only when Tarja did a cover with Steve'n'Seagulls two years ago. It is very interesting that the Phantom of the Opera performance is so successful on KZread and so stunning. I almost didn't notice it on the studio album. Tuomas said about this song that it was made for Nightwish and fits the concept of Beauty & the Beast from the first era of Nightwish. This concept comes from the symbolism of everything having a light and dark side. Tuomas also said several times that it is also a picture of Nightwish: one beauty and four beasts. This concept remains in many songs of Tarja's era, it does not appear in other eras. Phantom of the Opera was also a defining song for Tarja before she started studying singing. So far, she sings it in her own arrangement in her solo career on many occasions. Maybe Tuomas came up with the idea together with Tarja. Tarja's era is my favorite, but now I mainly listen to Tarja's solo career, where I always have something to discover. Tarja sings rock, classical, electronic music and is not afraid to experiment, I love that about her. and her voice has improved a lot over the years. But it's always nice to reminisce about the old golden days with Nightwish with new fans, but it's just a shame that most of them get stuck on the last ten years of NW.. I also learned to love the songs from the new Nightwish albums (Pan, Tribal, Music), but I'm still getting used to a different sound. My favorite Nightwish song with Tarja is the Ghost Love score (it's also a performance from the End of an Era concert), twenty years ago I couldn't stop listening to it.

I’m sorry, I don’t really understand your problem with Nemo, nor how one song would make you quit, so I can’t speak to it. That is not a judgment, I sincerely don’t understand. Originally Tuomas had envisioned some kind of folk band, I believe. He did not know she had been studying classical singing and upon hearing it, decided on the classical with the metal.

Thanks for checking out the video and taking time to comment! Also, thanks for adding to my knowledge rolodex 🤓. I went back and listened/watched the official video for Nemo for a different take on the song. I may not use the right language, but I know exactly what it is that I didn't care for. Something about the monotonous melody in the weird key is very unpleasant to me. Not saying anything about her voice or her performance. It's the song.

It was Memo that broke NW into the world wide sucess. Nemo a great taste of mainstream hard rock. Does not really showcase their strengths to the fullest. And to help ... Taa - rrr - eee -yaa two-ru-nen. Or in full Tarja Solellei Susanna Turunen -Cabuli. Age 28 at at this concert. Married To Marcello in 2003. 10 year old daughter Naomi. Any way Finnish accent is hard. Luckily.81% of Finns speak English as a 2nd language. Earliest bassist Sami left in 2001. Marko Heitailla replaced him. Also male vocalist. 10 years older then his bandmates has fronted his own band w his brother in Tarot. Left in 2001. Jukka retired from drums in 2014. Now in the office. Tuomas and Emppu also founders with Tarja still active in the band. Well *active as they are taking a break. Floor is touring her own solo work. Once was a different sound from the earliest days. Tastes differ. Up to this point it was their biggest hit. The remarks in Finnish translates to let me introduce the man behind the whole thing Mr Tuomas Holpienen!! I could write volumes about everything. Its neither a play or an opera. Its a stage rock musical created by Andrew-Lloyd Webber in the 1980s. Just ended its Broadway run this year. His wife Sarah Brightman plays Christine Daeai. Make it easy, in 2004 there was a movie version with Emmy Rossum as Christine, Gerald Butler as The Phantom, Patrick Wilson as Raoul as the count. Its a love triangle. Set in the Paris Opera House in the late 19th Century. That is easy to watch. It was done very well. Just know now that you have heard Tarja and Marko do the adults singing version every other version will be pale next to it. Also I advise taking into account relative ages and equipment. Yes they are close I'm age but Tarja was 19 to 28 during her time with the band 96 to 2005. HD as we know it was not a thing. Nor was digital. Nor in ear mics that let her hear the band and her voice mixed at the time. Much like asking how an athelete from decades past would compare with benefits of diet, training, equpment, modern medicine, etc. Vs modern greats and vice versa. No one knows. Enjoy the journey and know this please. Only you can experience the music as YOU do. No one else. No need to explain or justify what does or does not work for you. Have fun.
