... Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). @@cooperc4060 It was a great show :) with pyro, screens, lights. I was right in the group in front of the stage, about 25 meters away, so I could see everyone well. Open air, in a concrete parking lot in Romexpo, an audience of around 10k, and the weather was perfect. Many young people in the crowd, that made me happy. My ears rang the next day :) luckily I had a set of earplugs. I took some pictures, plus 2 short video recordings with my mobile phone, which turned out surprisingly well.

Three years ago, they went into my playlist. Now they pretty much ARE my playlist. They just finished their 2022 North American tour- I saw them in NYC. Unbelievable!

I was there for the New York show!

Every time I hear her ending notes I start crying and laughing at the same time. There is no one else who can match the Valkyrie Goddess of Symphonic Metal Floor Jansen as a vocalist. She has perfected her craft as no other Metal singer ever has.

Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard. ALL HAIL THE VALKYRIE GODDESS!!! The Nightwish Army is incoming! Floor is truly a once-in-a-generation talent. She can sing anything…any song, any style, any genre…and make it her own. The band is very diverse…not all of their songs sound like this…in fact, no two of their songs really sound alike. Anything live by them, especially from 2013 until the present, while Floor’s been the singer, is can’t miss. But, from this same Wacken 2013 show, I’d recommend Song of Myself, Storytime, Everdream, and Romanticide. ☮️

Just in my country alone I know 20 female young singers in their 20's and 30's who are better than her, so nope, not a once-in-a-generation talent, your standards are just skewed because you're probably used to listening to garbage. She's great but not spectacular. 8/10 at best, but that's still better than all the 3/10's in the mainstream music industry.

Hello and welcome to the phenomenal band that NW is! The band is Finnish. The leadwoman is Floor Jansen (Yahn-sen), Dutch, their 3rd and current singer. At the time of this concert she was only ten months with the band. End Sept 2012 she stepped in halfway the band's World Tour after the 2nd singer left the band. Floor had to learn the setlist in 48 hrs. Ghost Love Score was not on that list but she knew the song and loved it so they inserted it to it. So you were " FLOORED" BY FLOOR .....yea she does that to reactors and anyone else that hears her absolutely amazing voice.....shes the best out there ,definitely the most versatile .....she can do it all as you will hear for yourself and her stage presence is 2nd to none and yes she has some bad ass outfits . ....us guys like em too . They're touring as we speak , i had the privilege of seeing them in NYC back in May and im still shook , probably the best live band ive ever seen and ive seen alot of bands .

Since you were impressed by Floor's outfit, this would be another approach getting to know Nightwish: React to one song from different Nightwish concerts and you will see Floor wearing different outfits - Wembley Arena 2015, Tampere 2015, Buenos Aires 2018, Hellfest 2022, Deichbrand Festival 2022. Currently she has two outfits, I prefer the one she wore at Hellfest. The Wembley outfit is propably my favorite - with and without the jacket.

Greatest show I have ever seen in my life, when I saw them the first time a couple of months ago in NYC, at a much smaller venue than this lol. Floor's stage presence and voice are just spellbinding. She's the greatest active singer right now, imho. You should check out more from this show, but also a few others, live. They are all so good that they are even better live, which is a rarity. Truly amazing.

There are a few bands that I have seen that are similar in that they are better live, even when their studio stuff is amazing. I would put Pink Floyd, David Bowie, Genesis/Peter Gabriel, Grateful Dead, Santana and a few others in that category (each for different reasons). I also saw my first NW concert a few months ago, near Washington DC and it easily goes into my top 10 favorite concerts (out of well over 150).

I am also from the United States, and I hesitated watching this band because how good can they be because I have never heard of them. One of the greatest bands I have ever heard, and currently the best there is from all I have heard. Floor Jansen is the lead singer, she is from the Netherlands, the band is from Finland. Floor's voice is perfection to me, and she can sing any style or genre as well as metal. Her nicknames from us her fans are : Queen of Metal or The Valkyrie Goddess. She was trained in opera and was a vocal coach, but has been fronting metal bands since she was 17 years old. She is 41 now, and she and Nightwish have never sounded better or stronger. I liked and subbed for your journey.

Isn't it interesting how much the American music media fails? I'm not interested in hearing anything on the radio anymore. Haven't listened for years. Stumbled upon the underground 18 years ago and never looked back.

Welcome to the greatest band on the planet. Six musical geniuses who see each other as family, who perform without ego. Tuomas, the keyboardist, composes about 95% of their music, and I consider him the greatest composer of my lifetime. His music is multi-layered, and he uses tracks recorded with the London Philharmonic that he triggers with his keyboards in concert, including vocal choir tracks. Each song is unique, but equally great. A typical statement from the Nightwish Army, who you have obviously met, to the question "your favorite Nightwish song?" - "The one to which I am currently listening." I promise you will never be disappointed in listening to any of their songs. Gabriel is our "official" General and he can lead you on the greatest musical journey of your life, if you are so willing. May you love and appreciate this incredible band as I have so easily learned to do! Cheers from Southern California!

when they call Tuomas the Metal Mozart, it isn't hyperbole. My formative years were in the late 70's and 80's, and up until I found NW, I felt like Prince was the greatest song writer, arranger, composer in music history....Tuomas is right there with him. Combining metal with classical music (the symphonic part) can't be easy, and not only does he write great songs he knows exactly how to take advantage of everyone in the band's particular talents.

I've been listening to Nightwish since '97, and when I first heard her performance, uncontrollable tears poured down my face! It hit me hard because I've listened to them for decades, and to hear someone sing it with so much soul and emotion, overwhelmed my senses. It gave me so much nostalgia hearing an old, classic song being born again though her voice!🤘🏾❤

You're floored by floor's vocals. ☺️ This is just the tip of the ice berg regarding floor's vocals. Keep falling down this rabbit hole of nightwish Alice 🤭 and you will be astounded to what this band and floor can do. Stick with this 2013 Wacken concert for now and be in awe of their performances.

@@JyngerSlapz The thing you haven't experienced yet is when Marko starts singing. He is the absolutely perfect match for Floor, with a deeper voice and longer beard 😂. (Just kidding about the beard.). The harmonies are breathtaking. The other two from the "Holy Trinity" (besides Ghost Love Score) are "The Poet & The Pendulum" and "The Greatest Show On Earth." I highly recommend the Tempere version of the latter. Both need a bit of background research to fully understand the incredible brilliance and meaning behind them. The first being a highly personal piece for Tuomas, and the latter being the history of our planet in approximately 18 minutes. The detail and passion in each of them is dripping, and even a grown old fart like me watches them through tear-filled eyes every single time. Get your feet wet on others before you go there, but there just isn't a song that isn't a thousand times better than anything else out there. I'll be around to accompany you on your quest.

Also check out videos of a Dutch TV show called Beste Zangers with floor completely blowing away the other singers/artists with her range.

Nightwish Army North Texas division reporting for duty. Welcome to the wonderful world of Floor Jansen and Nightwish. This is an amazing, unique, and diverse band, that is well worth exploring. This is just the tip of the iceberg. This show was in 2013 and was fire from beginning to end. This was song #13 of 15. There were over 80,000 in attendance. They did a limited North American tour in May. US shows are at considerably smaller venues. They are currently on tour in Europe now, and even with a couple of personnel changes since, are still putting on amazing shows at huge venues now. Thats our Valkyrie Floor... she captures your eyes, then your ears, then your mind, and then she takes your soul... but you know what? She gives you your soul back in the end, incredibly enriched... and that's why we go into it again, and again, and again! BTW, no two songs by Nightwish are same, so if you maybe think you now know Nightwish think again... maybe after the first 100 or so songs... they are among us since 1996 so the is SOME library to choose from... And they allways been best live, so going for live recordings from big events (like this Wacken 2013) is usually the best thing you can do... they have professional audio and video quality.

since she performed this song way back in 2013 Floor has always refferred to that moment as "The Note" and she has actually gone on record to say that shes been sick as a dog at a concert once and when she hit that note she felt significantly more energy and 100% better. in many ways this song is *her* song.

When I first heard Nightwish, many years ago, it was a pretty big emotional experience for me. I had not heard anything like it before, and mostly listened to what was on the radio in Iowa. So I was pretty oblivious music could even sound like this. Years later, I'm always looking for a new sound, and creativity. I listen to a wide variety, and it's broadened my mind, and perspective. Music is the sound of the soul.

Welcome to the world of Nightwish and symphonic metal. Found it a bit funny that you said you were floored. Lead singer is Floor Jansen (Yan-sen), 3rd and current female lead. This is only a fraction of what Floor, and the band, can do. As you will find out, every song is different, but all are awesome. Formed in 1996, they've had 3 lead singers, 3 bassists, and 2 drummers. Founding members, Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards, primary songwriter and composer) and Emppu Vuorinen (guitar) still remain. Please see the comment from Gabriel Bardac for more info and quality links to a lot of their songs. Romanticide and Storytime are popular next steps, but feel free to choose your own path. Her voice is godlike and if you think that this was the edge of her abilities you will indeed be suprised. Nightwish as a whole is phenomenal and they haven’t made a bad song yet. I sincerely recommend that you explore their catalog further. My suggestion is that you go Storytime from Wacken 2013 (the same show that this video is from).

The bassist, Marco, is also classically trained and sings Opera to death metal as well. The two most common rx to multiple NW songs is "that was it what I expected" and "this is my new favorite NW song". Truly a surprising rabbit hole. Like Pink Floyd in that all songs unique and clearly them yet all truly different also

For sure.. her magic performance can't be surpassed by anyone. Must been said the band was great too. That drummer!!! It's their magum opus. Poet and the pendulum is an incredible song too, long,captivating,great singing,mesmerising, emotional. Tears are inevitable. These two songs are monumental songs.

Ok Jynger - you've come to two paths in the woods. Reading the comments below, they will encourage you to take the Nightwish path, only you just reacted to penultimate live performance ever recorded though I do enjoy their version of Ever Dream from the same Wacken show. Yes, not sure at the moment where you're located but they did a US tour earlier this year. An interesting note in regards to Floor joining the band - that happened in the Fall of 2012 where they fired their then singer Annette mid-tour, called Floor and asked her to learn the 17 song setlist in 48 hours while she flew from Europe to join them. Her day job. She wowed the 80K+ Wacken attendees this night which really heightens the energy in the room. I, on the other hand, would encourage you to take the Floor solo project path which really began in 2019 with her inclusion on a show called Beste' Zangers where she sang songs in several languages, from Operettic (Vilja Lied) to stage musical (Phantom of the Opera - duet) to pop (Solo of Shallow). In 2021 she did a live show in Amsterdam with songs like Storm in a Glass (rock) and Slow Love Slow (jazzy). Then this year she's followed it up with two singles from her up coming 2023 album, Fire (kzread.info/dash/bejne/pKWrqq-gn8KqlLQ.html) and Storm (kzread.info/dash/bejne/aph1spqGmsrOj6g.html) - both of these links are live versions which I prefer over the official music videos - she is one whose voice needs no production to make it better. Info dump for you below!😁 Nightwish is a glorious rabbit hole of awesome, with world class song-writing, musicianship and arguably (or unarguably to most who've heard her enough😉) the best and most versatile female vocalist alive today (maybe ever), the Valkyrie Queen of metal herself Floor Jansen (pronounced Yansen). Floor is a classically trained soprano and has a vocal range of more than 3 octaves (D3 to F6+). Floor is the third female vocalist that Nightwish have had (and my personal favourite), she was only with them on tour for 10 months at this point and officially joined the band in 2013, she is still with them today. The other vocalists are - Tarja Turunen - (1996-2005) - (Finland) - Very operatic focused vocals. Anette Olzon - (2007-2012) - (Sweden) - More pop-centric vocals. Floor Jansen - (2012-Present) - (Netherlands) - Extremely diverse vocals, from deep growls to full on opera. The other band members are/were - Tuomas Holopainen - Song writer/composer and Keyboards. (Finland) Marko Hietala - Bassist and vocals. (Finland) Emppu Vuorinen - Guitarist (Finland) Jukka Nevalainen - Drums (Finland) Retired in 2014 due to health issues Troy Donockley - Multi-instrumentalist and Vocals. (United Kingdom) Kai Hahto - Drums (Finland) - 2014 to Present Floor herself is Dutch and is another glorious goldmine of awesome as she has a lot of non-Nightwish related stuff (including 2 other bands, After Forever & ReVamp) that she has done that is all pretty amazing as well. She is also an absolutely lovely, funny, smart and grounded person (in fact all the band members are exceedingly down to earth individuals). She has her own channel here on KZread where she regularly posts covers of songs. The band was formed in 1996 by lead songwriter/composer and keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen. The name of the genre they generally belong to is Symphonic Metal but their discography is EXTREMELY varied. The "Symphonic" backing tracks of their music is composed in the majority by Tuomas and performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra. This was the 13th song in this particular set, Floor is belting notes like that the entire set. Nighwish are almost always better experienced with LIVE versions of their songs if at all possible. Most new reactors are better off sticking with the Wacken 2013 set to begin with as it offers a taste of a lot of what Nightwish has to offer, they have multiple concerts though all of which are superb. Some suggestions for more songs for you to continue your journey would be Storytime, Romanticide, Ever Dream, Ghost River, I Wish I had an Angel, Song of Myself, Dark Chest of Wonders, I Want My Tears Back and Amaranth all from Wacken 2013 (pronounced Vacken). Saying that, anything from Wacken 2013 is golden really to start, there's a reason why that set is pretty legendary at this point, 82,000 people were in attendance. Beware of some messed up slowed down versions of the Wacken 2013 songs as they can take the energy right out of the performances, just check the comments on them and I'm sure someone will mention if it's a slowed down version. Your choice obviously but I'd avoid Poet and the Pendulum and The Greatest Show on Earth for now until you are more familiar with the band and it's history, they will make a lot more sense and be more enjoyable for you that way. Prepare for the Nightwish army to arrive and enjoy your Nightwish journey, I know I did!😎🤘

I got to see them live back in Orlando, October 2012, Floor had just been called in to replace the former singer mid tour, and I got my tickets in the mail the exact day the announced the lineup change. I had to convince my wife(girlfriend at the time) to give the new singer a chance since I was very familiar with her earlier work and knew she'd knock it out of the park. There are a lot of concerts I wish I'd gotten to see in my life, but this one I consider a privilege to get to witness this legend in the making before she blew up and started to wow the whole world. Nightwish is my favorite band and I will never forget that performance for the rest of my life.

Nightwish is a must in every playlist. I recommend Storytime and The Greatest Show on Earth

It was great seeing your reaction. I discovered Nightwish back in 2004 and they are still my favourite group today. I would recommend three more songs, Storytime, then Ever Dream, then Romanticide (you can get the links from Gabriel Bardac's post). They each sound different so it will give you a nice introduction to this amazing band and vocalist

I bet I’ve watched that video at least 40-50 times and get emotional every time. There is just something about her voice and this band that just seems to pull emotions out of you no matter what song it is. Not many bands and singers have the ability to do that. This band is without a doubt something special!

For some angry Nightwish with hardcore Marko, check out "Master Passion Greed." To get a feel for Floor's range, see her covers from her home studio, including "Oblivion" and "Let It Go" (for her daughter). Also her performances on the Dutch show Beste Zangers is phenomenal. Suggestions? Let's jump right in with the Mother of all Rabbitholes.. 🙃 Try anything from the AYREON Universe Live 2017 concert, as long as you start with "Everybody Dies". The Ayreon/Star One project is a great "tour guide" that'll lead you to all kinds of interconnected bands you've probably never heard of. You'll meet some familiar faces along your journey (Floor & Marko for instance..). As for Nightwish, stick with Wacken 2013 for a while and you're good.
