My dad showed me the instrumental version of this song when I was very little, and my love for it has stayed with me into my adult life now. I guess you could say this was my first taste of magic. It's hard to put into words, but the instrumental *spoke* without a single lyric. This is the first time I've actually found lyrics to this masterpiece and I shed a tear. God himself couldn't have put better words to it. Bravo Nightwish, and thank you!

Nightwish wrote a beautiful melody, and Jonsu's vocals made it perfect! I wish she did more collaborations like this one, her vocals are made for symph metal.

If you still haven't been there, do it. Visiting Finland is definitely worth it. I have spent there 4 months during winter when I was studying in Oulu and then I went to Finland 4 times for vacation (two times to Turku and 2 times to Lappeenranta). And it has always been worth it. Grabbing a bicycle and just exploring the cycling paths along the lakes, or borrowing a boat / canoe and visiting a few islands. There was for example an island near Lappeenranta with an abandoned bunker from WWII and it was accessible for urbex. I also remember when my friends from Riihikoski near Turku took me on a trip to Rauma where we boarded a motorboat, sailed about 8 km to Nurmes island and until 3 am we walked along the island and searched for Geocaches. When we reached the westernmost part of the island, it was already dark, but we could see and hear the waves of the sea and that moment was simply unimaginable. There was just the island, the sea and somewhere faraway on the other side of the sea, hidden behind the horizont, was Sweden. Best memories of my life. So, if you can, visit Finland.

I am 38 now and listening to nightwish since I was 18. And I just discovered this beautiful song! Where have I been?! Now I want to visit Finland big time.

@@Shinjitsusei Indeed, this was launched as a promotional Single for the 2007 Tour through Finland that Nightwish made with a band called Indica (Jonsu is the singer of this band), that is why they used her voice for this song. The official album version was left as an instrumental but the Platinum Edition of the album has this version in it too.

Nightwish was a revelation. Now spellbound forever with Floor Jansen. Jonsu does a superb job. Love it.

This song is a deep dive into the Finnish soul. Beautiful. Exquisite. I suspect that the English translation doesn't quite do it justice. It sounds so beautiful sung in Finnish.

This only has 2,000 views??? I cannot stop watching it! Wonderful video!

I learned that Finnish and Magyar have the same origin. I am now learning Magyar and find that the pronounciation is quite similar to Finnish! Is that right?(I don't know Finnish)

@@Gamtou111 The only pronunciation we don't have in Hungarian is ä, other than that, it's pretty much the same.

Jonsu's tone color is similar to Anette's, maybe that's why Nightwish thought she would be a good fit at the time. Regardless, I love Jonsu and this sounds great.

It’s unfortunate that not even in the iTunes library you can find this song with the lyric audio, except only instrumental. Such a beautiful lyric and amazing melody as in who sang it; Jonsu. Been into depth learning Finnish, so I’m super motivated as some may perceive it.

I am about to release my piano version of this song (the instrumental version anyway). I always loved the version with vocals but I've never actually seen the translated lyrics. Since I've visited Finland twice and seen how amazingly beautiful it is, I can absolutely relate to the lyrics. Very powerful song and definitely brings the emotions.

I remember the first time i heard this song several years ago, it was the instrumental version, but i was enraptured and fell in love instantly! Had to listen to it several times again. No song had ever hooked me like that before or since. If you look at the map of Europe at the death of Charles the great in year 814 it all makes sense, Novgorod was a city/town near border between Slavonic Tribe and Finnish Tribe during that time.
