DC Details Nightwing Creative Team Changes, Reveals Key Plot Points

DC Comics revealed several surprising details pertaining to its Nightwing series today. The first detail concerns the series' creative team. According to DC, writer Scott Lobdell will take over for Benjamin Percy as of Nightwing #51. Additionally, the publisher today revealed the exact nature of Nightwing's upcoming (and much-teased) injury, his recovery and what eventually gets him back into the fight.
DC Comics offered no additional details about Lobdell being added to Nightwing, though Percy did post some thoughts to Twitter on Tuesday. In one tweet, Benjamin Percy says he wishes he "could have told the story [he] planned to tell," but promises readers he is leaving on a high note. Neither Benjamin Percy nor DC elaborated on the reason for the creative team swap.

It’s been a fall from grace almost as dramatic as the tumble that took Dick Grayson’s parents’ lives. From removing him as the leader of Titans to allowing KGBeast to shoot him in the head and set off this whole “I’m Ric Grayson” angle, times have been tough for Grayson. Predictably, the amnesia narrative will end in due course, but the damage has been done. Nightwing is lost in the pack of the DC Universe.
It’s a stark contrast to what DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio told CBR in September 2018. “And what we’re doing is examining ‘What don’t we have? What are we missing?’ That was the thought behind the New Age of Heroes books. ‘What types of stories aren’t we telling? What’s happening in the world that we aren’t addressing?’ [Nightwing] is a book that is at the heart of that,” he said.

The news comes from the Batman Day event at the Union Square Barnes & Noble in New York, where a panel that consisted of Dan DiDio, Tynion, Scott Snyder, Brad Walker, and Peter Tomasi all spoke about what's coming up for Batman. During that conversation, it was revealed that Nightwing would be returning in 2020, so it seems the days of Ric Grayson are limited.
For those not familiar with recent Nightwing stories, the book is still called Nightwing, but Grayson hasn't actually been Nightwing for quite a while. Ever since he was shot in the head by KG Beast, he has had amnesia and doesn't have any emotional connection to his friends or family in the Batverse. That's led to him adopting a new identity as Ric Grayson and a job as a taxi driver, though he's also been moonlighting as a vigilante because you get rid of the hero completely.

Nightwing is my favorite superhero of all time. He's proven not only to be Batman's equal, but in lots of ways, better. Sure, he's not the world's greatest detective and he hasn't dodged Darkseid's Omega Beams, but he's held on to his humanity throughout his whole journey. He's taken on Deathstroke multiple times and come out unscathed more often than not, he's bested Batman himself in hand to hand combat, and he's taken down the Parliament of Owls almost singlehandedly, all with that same confident grin on his face. Side note: the Ric Grayson arc needs to end yesterday
As I've said many time before, He's such an underrated, unappreciated, and abused character in DC comics. He is like a mix between batman and superman, but also has a unique charm and wit, he kinda reminds of marvel superheros strangely enough with his witty side.

Best of the best, along with his own mentor, Superman, and Wonder Woman.
Dick Grayson is the Quintessential superhero in my opinion. He's on the level of an Obi-Wan. When you think of a Jedi that's who usually comes to mind. He EMBODIES THE BEST of the Jedi. Dick is the SAME. He EMBODIES the Best of Batman AND Superman. He represents the Everyman superhero. And let's not forget, he was one of the ORIGINAL BIG 3 TRINITY. He's one of THE FOUNDING MEMBERS OF DC. Period.

Love me some Nightwing content! He's still one of my top favorite characters at DC like the Question, the other Robins, Superboy (Jon Kent), and Superman. When done right, this character is the light in the darkness. He's attractive, he's smart, he's a leader, and a bit of a romantic. Even his negatives are good for story such as his at times strained relationship with his adopted dad, brother, or partner Batman. His insecurities at comparing himself to Batman, etc. It takes a lot of balls for a person who likes Starfire/Nightwing to admit that Babs and Dick should end up together. I respect that. Since I read the New Teen Titans, I really began to appreciate the relationship Kory had with Dick. While I personally think they're an odd match..she being an alien warrior princess that's really tall and open with her emotions and Dick being a slightly above average human who at least in the NTT had difficulty admitting his true feelings, I think it makes for great entertainment. Of course I was introduced to Babs/Dick and still think they should end up together. Reading Dixon's Robin/Batgirl Year One, Birds of Prey, and Nightwing really is the best example to show anyone why these two should end up together. I think Dick and Babs really compliment each other's weaknesses, Dick being the acrobat, Babs the intellect, etc. Seriously, just go read Dixon's BoP #8 and his Batgirl Year One! While Dixon did a lot with Batgirl/Oracle and Nightwing, I would bet you money that he'd say Nightwing should end up with Starfire. I mean...she's smoking! That's a lot to compete with and hopefully a competent writer could address any possible insecurities Babs as Oracle would have to have when she compared herself with Starfire, knowing about her history with Dick. C'mon DC give me that love triangle storyline!

Hendricks I don’t really like love triangles, but I think he’d be great with either starfire or batgirl. I can’t find myself to dislike any of the pairings. Probably because he’s just a really kind person(unless written otherwise which crappy writers LOVE to do to make him the bad guy).
Its funny... The only time i've liked Batman is when Bruce "died" and Dick became Batman with Damian as Robin.

The individual stories were pretty dark, but Dick's sunnier approach, his almost joyous approach to crime fighting, just appealed to me, with Danian being the more violent counterpart but not as damaged as we've seen Bruce. Just more fun.

I 100% agree that he is the best version of Batman. He is more calm and more into the light unlike Batman who shut himself off from the people he loves. That's why I enjoyed his run as Batman.

Dan DiDio hated the character, and he wanted King to get rid of him because he hates dick jokes.
Amidst my favorite heroes, grayson comes out as the one i identify the most with. While batman feels too dark and lost in his quest, to the point where he is not social at all, superman feels too pure, too good hearted, Red Hood feels too far lost when it comes to morality, and although i love his badassery, his views and beliefs don't resonate with me that much. Nightwing and spider-man are simply the ones who resonate the most with me, although peters still a bit too light hearted and nerdy.
Dude I´m watching this in 2020 and I really relate to this video, I love Dick Grayson, I really admire his qualities and his personality, he´s unique! This is the best youtube video I´ve ever seen!
Really great listen, especially looking at Grayson through the traditional hero lens. He represents so many admirable elements explored through Campbell's The Hero With A Thousand Faces.

The chuck dixon nightwing run is fantastic. It's criminally underrated . I highly recommend it. It deserves an Omnibus Collection
I Love Dick Grayson like so much!! My first touch with his Character was the Teen Titans Show from 2003 and then the Young Justice. Robin was, in both my favourite of all. As I like him that much I started to look for his Backstory, knew about the other Robins and stuff and that made me love him more. I don't remember when, but I when I started reading Nightwing comics I just love him more, and now a dys is actully the only Hero Comic I read and really Like. Today I finish reading The New Titans comic. And I can say I love Dick Grayson more as Nightwing than as Robin. I just love his Character, is one of my favourite Fictional Characters in general. And I love him more with Starfire than Barbara too Personally I see Nightwing as the Perfect combination of Batman and Superman, he has the best of Both. Plus the personal extra as his Fighting Style and way To Be. I mean, my Profile Picture is a Nightwing one 😂
There is one book I would recommend reading: DICK GRAYSON, BOY WONDER: SCHOLARS AND CREATORS ON 75 YEARS OR ROBIN, NIGHTWING AND BATMAN BY KRISTEN L. GEAMAN This book talks about the evolution of Dick Grayson and how the writers see him. It really gets into detail on his trials and struggles as a hero.

The best issue of Nightwing for me is Nightwing vol 2 issue 10 written by Chuck Dixon with art by Scott McDaniel. Once you read it you'll see why.

It’s funny - before I got to grad school, I had no idea about the how much people focus on his ass lol.
He isn’t really a loner since he still leads the titans in some comics or trains some of the bat family and has many lovers. He also has a social personality so I have to disagree with you there but great video

The only problem with dc street level characters is that they all have the same abilities dc doesn't have a daredevil Spiderman iron fist ghost rider blade ect I like dick Grayson but he is just a fast more acrobatic batman at least Jason Todd is kind of a metahuman
Hey can I say something. I feel like Nightwing shouldn't be with Batman all the time. Like I feel like he should be there in serious situation but other than that he should be away from Batman. Like Tim should be Batman's partner/sidekick not Nightwing. Tim Drake is the best Robin and he should be the partner/sidekick for Batman and also give him more love in comics. I'm tired seeing Nightwing all the time like let Tim be Batman's sidekick. What would be a good story is just have Nightwing stay the leader of the Titans and not have him be with Batman all the times. Like in Under the Red Hood they put Nightwing there even though he did nothing in that story, in Batman Hush he was just an annoying character, and etc. Also Ric Grayson is stupid and should've given him more character development not just it be there. In my opinion(please don't attack me) Nightwing to me isn't really interesting to me. Like I like the more better version of Batman kind of thing but he was always with Batman and that just made him into just Batman's sidekick. The whole point of Nightwing is for him to be his own man to be away from Batman kind of like how he is in Titans but obviously less brutal.
