The problem isn't that fast food's gotten expensive, the problem is that it's gone the way of retail, requiring you to download apps and chase coupons in order to get a reasonable deal.

I think what's happening is a sort of escalated form of dynamic pricing. Add that to the ridiculous apps, coupons, and now tiers, that just about every retailer uses now and you pretty much have no idea how much things are going to cost you. We're at the stage that airplane tickets were at years ago - it's likely that if there are 10 people on line to pay at the store, every one of them may be paying a different price for the same items. And the wasted time? 😒 The buyer used to be part of the pricing setting mechanism - if you charged too much, they just didn't buy, or went somewhere that charged less. But now the market is completely dictated by the sellers, and it reflects less supply-and-demand pricing and more pay-no-attention-to-the-man-behind-the curtain pricing. We need to form informal 'consumer unions' out here in shopper-land and get dynamic our own selves. Stage spot boycotts on stores that don't have transparent, honest pricing WITHOUT requiring access to your life via tracking apps on your phone, or boycotting products whose makers play tricksy games like reducing the size of the product AND raising its price...for example, many if not most ice cream containers that previously contained pints (16 oz) now have exactly the same packaging, but now contain only 14 oz...AND the price for the reduced size pkg is higher than the price for the pint was. Another slick trick is to raise the price of an item, but continue selling it "on sale" for the previous regular price. When the "sale" ends, the price "goes back" to the NEW (higher) normal. So there was never an actual "sale," there was only a trick making you think there was, and now you're paying more. Time to say NOPE. We need to get smart.

True. The economic narrations have to change to reflect the reality; the mainstream media is never in the habit of speaking the truth anyway. You tell people prices are high day in and day out, even those who have the means would start to complain while spending too much on leisure. The talk should shift. Why are fast foods slashing prices? It is because they can do that without affecting their profits. Target and Walmart are doing the same for similar reasons. In my opinion false economic narrations, propagated by the mainstream media, and price gouging, in other cases, are the culprit.

You know, since they raised the prices on everything, I quit buying anything but "real" food...and I'm spending less on groceries now than before all the ridiculous price hikes! No chips, no candy, no ice cream (that one killed me, sigh), no (and this is a big $$ saver) frozen dinners. It makes a HUGE difference, and you know what? You'll probably end up saving on medical costs as well...do it long term and you might even get off all those blood pressure and type2 diabetes and what not meds and feel a lot better, too. Try it - there's nothing to lose and everything to gain. Plus the satisfaction of beating the conglomerates at their own game. 😎

Am I missing something, what's "DVD-Sized Hail", are we talking about the antiquated 200's tech that some people can't let go of? Cuase that's a FLAT DISK, are you guys saying that the hail is going to come down shaped like flat round disk? Like, it is possible to compare it to something round, like a grape fruit, like I once herd a DvD compared to the diameter of Grape fruit cut in half. Just saying "DVD-sized Hail" conjures up weird imagery. Like Hail is scary enough being round, don't need to make it seem more terrifying.
