The new digital SAT's adaptive testing sounds incredibly unfair. The more you answer correctly, the harder the next questions become? HOW can that be fairly compared? Why was this glossed over in the report?

Adaptive testing is the same kind of test that IT certifications have, or that nurses take to get their licenses. Think of it like a baseline where you start. You answer a question correctly, the next one is harder (goes up 1 notch above the baseline). If you miss a question, the next one goes down in difficulty (back down to baseline). This continues until the computer projects that you are either going to stay consistently above the baseline for passing or below it -- it can lead to tests being very short, and it isn't unfair at all.

The Adaptive testing S.A.T Program Function makes the test HARDER as you take it for simply answering questions consistently correct is freaking BS. There is no reason to change the questions around if the child happens to be smarter. That's really dumb and seems rigged to lower the potential score. Conversely, do the questions get easier if children begin to answer questions incorrectly? what is the logic and reason? Make the questions standard for everyone from start to finish.

If you are too smart its not inclusive... we need to diversify.. everyone should get the same score so we all feel super equal and included. if you are dumb, you get a 1280.. if you are a genius.. you can get a 1285... that way we all can get participation medals and feel like we are on the same playing field of life! /s

Yes, if you answer incorrectly, the next questions will be easier. Adaptive testing is used in many, many fields for certifications for IT, for nursing licenses, etc. This isn't unfair, it will just lead to a more individualized test that will be only as long as it needs to be to verify a the passing or failing of the individual test taker.

When profit and share prices are the main incentive there will always be corners cut in worker pay, number of workers, quality of materials, quality assurance testing and anything else that can be gutted. I question that. We know that the hatch work was a scheduled job. The question is (1) Who did the work? (2) Where is the documentation? (3) Is this part of Boeing management's intentional efforts to under-document safety issues in order to make their safety stats look better? (4) Why has it taken them so long to come to the conclusion that they "can't find" the documentation? (5) The excuse that "the manager responsible for this is on medical leave" is BOGUS. Buckle up. This is going to get interesting.

Out of the millions of flights so far this year, 4 have mechanical failures with no injuries, and the math isn’t mathing… meanwhile, 4000 people died in cars just today. The fact that aviation is so safe is incredible. You’re safer in an airplane seat than you are walking, but the math isn’t mathing.

So, the SAT is no longer a standardized test. As per Wikipedia: "Standardized tests are designed in such a way that the questions and interpretations are consistent and are administered and scored in a predetermined, standard manner." That's no longer the case if the questions change based on an individual's performance. I smell an incoming lawsuit.

I thought that at first, but if they are testing the limits of the applicants' current state of knowledge and ability to apply that knowledge, it does make sense. With a very limited number of slots available, wouldn't you want to choose the most likely to succeed? The place to start worrying about equal access is from day one of education - stop diverting public education funds to private or select institutions (via vouchers and other such diversionary tactics), give everyone the same access to the same education, and THEN test them.

There's actually a wide range of people from all different backgrounds that agree anyone coming into the country should do it the right way. You really don't want just anyone coming across the border, unchecked. Many countries around the world don't tolerate just anyone entering their country. Those who do it the right way that want a better life and are found not to be insane criminals, with gang/terroristic backgrounds, are welcome.

When the war ceases to be funded and arms cease to be sent, then that is when it will end. This humanitarian effort is only because the U.S. is in an election year. There aren’t even nearly enough food and supplies being dropped. The Haitian crisis and its history of conflict has long been stoked by Western nations. Haiti was the first and only successful slave revolt. They have been punished ever since.
