Night walk in my cozy village suburb

Darkness falls across the land here in Denmark these days, and there is no way around it. To be sure, the sun does show its face every now and then, but from mid-afternoon we are wrapped in black and will continue to be so until late February. Happily, there are Christmas lights to brighten it all up here and there, and I take them in wherever I can. In this video, I wanted to take you along with me for a walk (and a bike ride) through my little village suburb but also share some ambivalence I have this time of year. I wonder if I am the only one who has these thoughts? It is a dark video, in more ways than one; I promise to include more light next time. But no light without dark, eh? I wish you peace, and thanks for watching.

What a beautiful, clean and quiet town. As far as the modern Christmas, or any holiday, it should all be cozy. Whether you are with a family big or small, or you're by yourself, it should all be peaceful.

My first extended stay in Denmark came in January in Lyngby in 1993. Yes, it got dark early, but we were able to be outside during the day. The nights were long and we read books to each other for entertainment. Finally, we broke down and bought a television for entertainment in the evening. The weather gradually got better and I’ll never forget the varied green of the trees in he Dyrhaven in May. Loved Denmark.

Yes, I guess it depends on what we grow up with and get used to. I would never be able to deal with the month of total darkness they have on Svalbard, northern Norway, for instance. Merry Christmas to you and yours, too, Katherine! 💚🎄
