NIGHT OF THE TWISTERS! - Insane Oklahoma Tornado Outbreak - 4/19/2023

On the evening of April 19th, 2023 a localized tornado outbreak terrorized communities near Oklahoma City as multiple storms produced multiple tornadoes (some EF2+) unfortunately claiming the lives of two residents as this relentless, and fatal tornado season continues to rip across the US.

    The orange glow at about 8:25 was lightning hitting an oil battery yards from my house. We were in the basement & it was so loud, my ears were ringing for a few minutes. We came up for a couple minutes to see a wall of flames from the explosion with tornado sirens still going & alerts for more tornadoes going off on our phones. Very scary night! Only a little bit of hail damage & downed trees inspite of it all. So humbling...

    I was in Norman that late afternoon on 24th and Alameda doing laundry. It was just raining. I was going to go see a friend and then go grab a Dutch Bros before heading back to Purcell but while sitting at light it got real dark and started hailing. But south towards Noble was blue skies. So I started in that direction. Made it back to Purcell around 7pm. Took my daughter to the store. Seen the big wall cloud west and north of Purcell. Out towards the Cole area... Sirens were going off in Norman when I left and in Purcell for a good hour. Was sad to hear about those who lost their lives as well as their families that survived.

    Bridge Creek should erect a monument of a tornado. I lived in OKC for over twenty years..basically grew up there. I experienced many violent storms & hail but never actually saw a tornado. They all seemed to occur at night. Every spring ..was storm season, I remember having the TV on and wondering if we were going to have a storm..sure enough Beep Beep Beep ! their interrupting the program, weather man Gary England with channel 9 has a weather Advisory..a severe storm is moving Our way! I also remember our family sitting on the porch everyone watching the Lightning show. The smell of the rain falling moving across the city. I remember one time when a storm was approaching the sky turned a weird shade of pale green & purple and the air stopped moving..not a leaf was moving. then it began dropping hail, marble size was the largest I remember seeing. The worse we as a family experienced was a large Elm tree in the front yard was blown across the drive way.. exciting memories

    What does it mean when "the cap is breached"?

  • @charlescashen9466

    @charlescashen9466

    Жыл бұрын

    Note: I am not a meteorologist, just a hobbyist. A capping inversion is, in simple terms, a layer of air that can prevent the development of strong updrafts and therefore storms. If the capping layer (the cap) is strong enough, it can prevent severe weather from developing. If the capping layer is breached, that means the updrafts present are strong enough to push through it, initiating thunderstorm/severe weather development. NWS Norman's video on the El Reno 2013 tornado uses a good metaphor - "breaking the capping layer is like taking the lid off of a boiling pot of water". Convection can then continue to develop strong storms. It is hard to predict whether or not updrafts (also called thermals) will be able to break the capping layer, which results in some high potential days producing nothing and some low potential days producing tornadoes.

  • @ohiostormchasers

    @ohiostormchasers

    Yeah, it means the capping inversion had been removed allowing storms to fire.

    I like your composition and editing compared to others I have seen. Also, you aren't stupid like them and go practically inside the tornado.

    "but not before a large piece of sheet metal gets launched into the air like a speeding bullet". The last thing we need more of in storm chasing is more unwarranted drama. While size is contextual, that "piece of sheet metal" was not "launched up into the air" while it lazily tumbled across the road. This is great videography but the unnecessary insertion of drama into the narrative spoils it.

    Honestly, good to hear the feedback. I'll work on that in future videos. Thanks!

    @@ohiostormchasers I appreciate you not thinking my tone was harsh. A tough thing to inflect on a typed comment. Your video work is fabulous. I know nocturnal chasing is beyond difficult (why I choose to do mine in daylight). What I have learned is that filling voids of action with what amounts to artificial action to keep people engaged usually has the opposite effect. You have a new subscriber in me and heres to you finding some great chases here in Texas.

    JESUS knew no sin, HE was the perfect sacrifice. HE was without spot or blemish. HE lived a righteous life. When HE died on the cross, HE poured out HIS precious blood so that every sinner who would believe in HIM, would be saved. We are saved by THE BLOOD OF JESUS. When JESUS died on the cross, HE took our sins to HELL. But on the third day HE arose again. HE defeated death, HELL, and the grave. This is why we are baptized. We go into the water a sinner, the water represents the blood of JESUS. When we go down into the pond or lake, it represents the grave. But when we come up out of the grave, we rise up to new life in CHRIST JESUS, we have been washed clean,our sins are forgiven and remembered no more. We are a new creature in CHRIST JESUS! REPENT, AND BE BAPTIZED,AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS! ❤️😇🙏
