Bring a friend and a campfire and some chicken livers, maybe some beer. That's all you need.

Haven't gone fishing yet, but kayaking at night, essentially with night vision goggles is really fun.

My passion is catching flatheads off the bank. I allways use nightcrawlers and live bluegill. If your going to put out more than 1 pole and your useing pole holders allways use circle hooks. The fish will take the bait and set the hook itself and circle hooks allmost hook the fish in the corner of the mouth. And if your a gun guy allways carry cci shotshells in your handgun. I have killed many cottonmouths on the side of the bank. I keep the live bluegill in a minnow bucket and the snakes are drawn to the bait.

This is the best informative green light fishing video on KZread. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and techniques. I green light fish on a public lake in central Illinois. My best times for green light crappie fishing in Illinois are the last week in April thru May. I fish from a dock where I place my green light about 4 ft down at dusk wait about 15-30 minutes then start fishing. Always fish the edge of the green light pattern never directly over or near the light. Over the years I have found the first 90 minutes after dusk and from 2:00 AM until dawn work best for me.

What sort of deer feed battery that you used to power the led light on your flowing noodle raft? I am curious as how a heavy battery can flow on a little noodle raft and how long it kept the led on for.

It’s a game winner battery from academy. It’s not very heavy and floats fine in the raft but if I were to do it again I probably would add one more noodle across the floor just for extra stability In case it got windy. The battery can power that little light all night

I am looking for the side mount for your rod holder that fits in the grove of the rail. Can you share what it's called and where you got it thanks

What you are looking for is called a "T track". Amazon sells some that I didn't find heavy duty enough, eventually found some that are extremely heavy duty and hold 3/8 inch bolts. I believe this is the website I actually used: www.eagleamerica.com/product/v416-1224/miter_track_t-track

Can you provide a diagram or a video on how you made your floating PVC batterie unit, including a parts list?

I'll try to one day. Don't have a lot of extra time at the moment. Basically its just 3/4 inch pvc which is what fits inside swim noodle easily. Maybe 12-15 inches wide with three noodles going across the bottom of the device. If I were to rebuild it I would make it probably have 4 swim noodles on the bottom instead of three so its wider plus more buoyant. You need probably a 10 foot stick of 3/4 inch pvc, 8 "T" fittings if you want a 4 noodle floor which I would recommend. Plus four 90's to make it into one big rectangle or 90 with a third hole going up to make the walls which is what I did. Make a rectangle and run pvc/swim noodle across to make a floor in the middle with noodle spaced a few inches apart from each other is the basic concept.

What battery did you use on your floating setup? I found lights at 8 amps and some batteries with 20 aH. That would only last 2.5 hours by my calculations. How long does yours last?

That is an excellent question! At academy they sell Game Winner 12 volt batteries that are 7 aH for $19.99 for deer feeders. I use that with amarine made 15 watt 0.8 amp draw lights on amazon for $25 bucks. The battery should last around 8 hours.

I looked again and the ones that I found were not 8 amps, but 8 watts, and drew 0.8amps, so the battery should last 10+ hours.

I'm assuming your battery is rechargeable, what battery did you use?

Game winner at academy. Yes they are rechargble. They seem to last much longer if you only trickle charge them....probably some what true for all batteries but seems to be especially true of those small 12 volt batteries

You were talking about casting a roadrunner what color of jig would you use or does it matter with it being dark

Thats a great question and I'm not sure if it matters much, at least at my dirty lake. I used a 1/8 ounce crappie roadrunner jig and put on a Mr Crappie "slabalicious" in black/chartreuse, white/chartreuse, and blue/chartreuse and didn't notice any difference in catch rates. I got to where I was using a twisted tail white/chartreuse body about 2.5 inches long from walmart and did just as good and is a little cheaper option. Last night I used a 1/2 ounce white road runner bucktail jig and caught my limit of hybrids fairly shortly. Just play around and see if it makes any difference in your lake. I found the technique you use matters the most. When I first started I would take a friend and give them one color and I would use the opposite color to see if it mattered and found that I caught more fish. So, I would then switch them rods and use their color and still catch more than them and my catch rate didn't change at all. This lead me to conclude its all about your technique and setting the hook. I reel very slowly (about one revolution per 1.5-2 seconds) and when I feel a little strike I set the hook.

RespectTheFish wow thanks for the detailed message reply I have a light that I put out and fish around it with minnows catch lots of crappie so I'm going to try to use jigs and see how or if I can catch them

Excellent! Try maybe adding a crappie niblet or some scent if you are only vertical fishing or at least experiment with it because I'm suspecting some scent may pay off big at night versus not using scent....people that target crappie in the day usually believe in scent from the conversations I've had. I've never specifically targeted crappie but catch them sometimes (especially around one particular dock) on the road runner jig with the same cast and retrieve. If you noticed in my video I built a pvc raft that holds a deer feeder battery and powers a subermigble light....if you have any trees in your local lake you may try side scanning (or DI if you don't have SI) and see if you can find which tree is holding crappie and tie the raft off to it before dark. I've always wanted to try this because the one time I targeted crappie I found them on one isolated tree during the evening but at night time they left that tree. I wonder if I put the light out before dark if it would keep the crappie there and congrate them more....or maybe get there before dark and tie boat off.

My boat is on a Reservoir in a buoy field with other boats it's 20ft to the bottom there isn't any structure around the field except for the cable's to the buoys but every time I went out we get a big shad ball running around the light edge we catch crappie catfish and an occasional walleye so I'm definitely wanting to try casting some jigs

How deep do you want your light in the water at a dock ?

I see a ton of people of my lake not even submerge their dock light and just the surface lights work great and attract fish. I would say it depends on how clear the water is. In my muddy lake I just submerge my boat lights maybe 3-5 feet down and it works great. In a clearer lake I would probably go deeper than that (like maybe 5-10 foot) but I'm not sure if it would have any extra benefit....I honestly bet its irrelevant if its 3-5 foot deep or 5-10 foot deep as long as the surface is light up well. If you cannot see a ton of light you're probably too deep. I guess its always something to experiment with though. I think the most important thing over how deep the light is, is to keep the light on night after night as consistent as possible.....it should become more consistent fishing. Theres a big difference when fishing docks that are always light up versus the docks that just occasionally turn their lights on.

every lake is probably a little different. when I fished night in spring time they would often be anywhere from 28 foot down to 10 foot down. Thats when you want your fish finder on a high chart speed with 2D sonar and DI sonar to get a perfect idea of how deep they are. You can even drop a jig down to that depth and watch it on your 2D sonar and know exactly where it is and see the fish respond to it. Or drop live bait down a few feet above their heads.
