If you listen to the music carefully you can tell why it sounds so clasically 80s synthpop-- the octobass chord is an absolute classic that started with disco (you can really notice it on tracks like "Funkytown") but that double-tap octive-skip octobass was also used to great effect in New Order's "Blue Monday" Likewise the chord that starts at :53 is basically the riff to "never let me down again" by Depeche Mode. Coincidentally another song about D/s. I love the fact they use these iconic 80s synth pseudo-samples to get the sound down, put their own twist on it, and make it something modern but classic at the same time.

:53, the riff from "Never Let Me Down Again" slightly remixed. Plus you know, dominance and submission themes are Martin Gore's thing, so there's that. If you pay attention to the octobass riff at the start too it strongly resembles the classic disco octobass as re-imagined by New Order for Blue Monday (the single-beat part before they use the galloping double-beat octobass later in the song)
