I’m Nigerian, but I didn't grow up there, and my parents didn't speak Yoruba to us kids. Now I'm an adult trying to learn everything, which is a challenge. I struggle with not feeling like a “true Nija” person among other Nigerians, and I feel like learning to speak pidgin connects me to my roots and my people. This video is a public service 😊 PLEASE keep making these videos!

Same basically & growing up speaking English and now almost 30 trying to learn and pronounce pidgin is hard because it’s like unlearning proper English to be honest
How far, I live in the UK, and I am disabled. Many of my carers are from Nigeria (27 so far), and I have been learning Pidgin from a couple of them. I find it a fascinating language. I love the reactions that I get from the other Nigerian carers when I use Pidgin words and phrases. They are so happy when I do this. I have found that the Nigerian women are so full of positive energy, they are open and friendly. I very much look forward to their visits. They bring a lot of happiness to me life. The least that I can do, is learn a little bit of Pidgin. Oyana! o/

I am brazilian, and you said that "sabi" means "to know" that made so much sense to me, because in portuguese (brazilian portuguese) the verb "to know" is "saber". That is crazy

I am Ivorian but my father is Nigerian from the Yoruba people. I do not speak it well but I notice some words in Pidgin are also used in the Yoruba language and that's' gbamsolutely awesome. Maybe their origin is there. It's a bit like "Nushi" in Côte d'Ivoire which is a mixture of local languages and even latin languages. Thank you fro the video and I follow you from now on .😊😌

🤣🤣🤣 its hard to explain....it is used in different contexts could mean you... "YOU SHOULD QUERY SOMETHING OR TAKE SOMETHING UP"
@nokunato
Жыл бұрын
Context 1: maybe someone offends you and you're been too soft to react. It means you have to show them a side of you they've never seen(the angry side) Context 2: could be they telling you to change something for someone.
K- leg also mean something is not straight. Like the leg when they are not looking straight.

What does "omo" means
@adejokeogunleye8642
8 ай бұрын
It means child in Yoruba language. It's used the way Americans use "child" as a slang. But when we're talking in the formal send, it means child.
@pidginlovers

Omo originally means child but in pidgin we use it as an exclamation when chatting informally with a close friend, usually in same age bracket as you. I have taught this before. Please watch my old videos ❤️
