At one point while watching this replay,I forgot that it wasn't a live game.Was so "shocked and annoyed" with the coach at the point that Okocha was being substituted.Damnt then in comes Amunike(another gem).How deep was that squad?? Am actually crying(the pain of a Kenyan) how must be politics and corruption ruined the chances of such a team full of talent not to go on and conquer other international honours.

Best African team in history. No reason we can’t have a team on this level nowadays. Morocco, Sénégal and a few other teams (Ivory Coast, Ghana, Algeria, etc..) also have the potential imo

I knew something was special about the Dream Team, and I had so much hope in them against all odds. After the unfortunate 2nd round exit of the Super Eagles at USA '94, the Dream Team brought joyfully wiped away our pains in 1996. Weldone boys!

I remember watching this game in Jamaica, I was screaming for Nigeria as if I was a Nigerian. I have never seen another African team with that much talent,with general ockatcha bossing the middle

I remember this match like today. So surreal, thanks to the 1996 team. You made history for Africa.

Atlanta 96 will remain our greatest glory in the world of football. Watching on a black and white TV, I screamed my heart out that night. ThankGod for the golden goal rule that year.

It will take us many yrs to fall back to this kind of team in Nigerian football, I could remember vividly that midnight even in the village it was more joyous than 31st night of every yr.

Can't forget this match, i watched ot at the stadium with my dad at the age of 19 now I'm 43 God is great !

I remember this well, and the semi final between Nigeria and Brazil. I usually support South American football and Argentina. But I was happy that Nigeria did it after Ortega dived to win a penalty and how the Argentina players harangued the referee after the third goal claiming it was offside (when their trap had failed).

This is the greatest moment of the Nigerian super eagles team in the world history of football. They performed greatly than just eleven men out there. They are a complete squad with great skills of football. They really ruled the world then. I was proud of them.

Nigeria was blessed to have the best defender in the history of Nigeria football. Uche Okechukwu was by far the most complete defender of his generation. He rarely committed fouls. He was calm and always timed his tackle. The only defender who missed out in signing for Barcelona, Rea Madrid, AC Milan, Manchester United, Arsenal, Bayern Munich or Juventus. He was underrated!

This team made us love Nigerian football team so much ,they are a wonderful team playing amazing football.

Ortega also received an Olympic gold medal for diving in the Atlanta games. Amazing how gravity seems to afflict some players.

2021 reliving these good old 1996 Olympic Gold Medal match.

Ronaldo and Messi were still in primary school

They beat Brazil in the semifinals and then Argentina in the final. Absolute genius. And they looked so comfortable as if they owned the competition.

I feel like African teams have this potential but we don't play to our strengths anymore. We just tend to be more defensive instead of dominating the game

I am a Nigerian but this team has represented the whole of Africa and will put smiles on people's faces for many years to come.

Nigerian football team played and had been playing well in those years when factors like Bias, corruption, tribalism, Regionalism, and selfishness from the administratives and players were not in placed. The coaches on those days were not Nigerian so factors like bias, tribalism and Regionalism were minimal Administratives ( Nigerian) had less say for the team so corruption was minimized. Most players were not from one specific part of the nation so they played with their heart and for the nation. If Nigeria didn't consider these factors and make changes, then the team will continuously deteriorating and we will never be like the old Super eagle.
