    So, no more reason or excuse not to revert back to the Regional autonomous Govt. our founding fathers agreed to as a condition for our independence.

    If true, then this is good news for Nigeria as a country, and even strengthens the case for us to restructure and revert back to our original structure of Regional Government (Regional Autonomy) which our Founding Fathers agreed and signed up to as condition for our Independence as a united sovereign nation. This is the only way Nigeria can stand a chance of rapidly replicating the kind of development that happened to China in the last 30 years. It is a known fact that competition brings out the best in people (our booming cocoa fields, groundnut pyramids and palm oil/kernel exports of the 50's and 60's were as a result of this). We go on to create the 6 semi-autonomous regional blocks, abolish the current state structures and then replace it with Counties as well as Local Municipalities. If such happens, it will take Nigeria less than 20 years to catch-up or surpass Indonesia and maybe be at par or even higher than Singapore. Every region and part of our country is richly blessed but we are not maximizing our potentials. Henry E

    Please the government should organize and sponsor a visit to a few Arab countries like Qatar, UAE (Dubai), and Saudi Arabia to learn how to manage oil wealth. When I recall what Dubai was 30 years ago and what it is today, unarguably the most beautiful and desired place in the world today, I weep for Nigeria.

    UAE has a population of 9 million with three times Nigeria's oil reserves and daily output. You can't have an output that's a third of the UAE's, with a 220 million population, and expect to be like the UAE. The Nigerian govt could use its 40 billion dollar annual budget to fund 3 or 4 new 'Dubais', with gleaming skyscrapers, but it wouldn't be much good to the majority of the huge country.

  • @african-history-fountain

    @african-history-fountain

    @Solo That's exactly what the government is doing. But it's a huge country - with two-thirds the population of the US - and it will take decades to develop the entirety of it. It's not like they're flush with money and can do it all in a few short years. Their annual budget is 40 billion dollars. Compare that to the US 7.6 trillion dollar annual budget. Or the UK's 2 trillion. So their progress will be slow and steady, not the radical transformation many of the people there demand.

As this country belongs to all of us and not a certain people Nepotism and national character is being deployed as a weapon against most Nigerians of southern decent in their homeland Take a tour to NNPC, NPDC, Head of security aparatus in Nigeria and you will think that this country is a Fulani country Once upon a time, there was the almargamation of the Western, Eastern, Nothern protectorates and the protectorate of Lagos. Nigeria is not one country, it is an aglomeration of so many nationalities. The national character commission came into being to help the backward north to be able to be at par with the rest of Nigeria in order to enable them accept independence in 1960. It has now been weaponiized into a nepotistic tool of opression This trend is not sustainable

    This is good news. I hope it would lead to re-odering of the nation's geopolitics. Atleast there should be some loosening-up about the issue of resources control, that's devolving more resources and power away from the centre, which is too heavy, towards the peripheral parts of the federation. However, revenue from this new recovery and existing ones should be channeled into human and infrastructural development to stimulate growth. Oil is finite. Sensible nations are proactively opening up new areas of economic growth and positioning their economies for whatever fallout that transitioning from fossil fuel to green alternatives may provoke in the future. Dubai and Saudi Arabia are on this trajectory.

    If this is True, it explains why Tinubu wanted a moslem-moslem ticket with Shettima, and also why Atiku said northerners should vote for him because (he is a Northerner like themselves)? If this remains True, it might also explain why mahd-max (Mahdi Shehu) threatened Northern Christians not to Vote for Peter Obi. And if this is actually True, why are APC and PDP Politicians so reluctant to dialogue with IPOB and resolve the Biafran crisis? If this is indeed True, this (oil discovery in the Gongola Basin) portends unimaginable suffering and confusion for Nigerian Citizens...God help us!!!
