Nigeria Can Consider Getting a $30 Billion IMF Stabilization Programme - Moghalu

Even though the IMF might be a dirty word in Nigeria, we are already doing what they want, with the removal of subsidies. The real solution to our economic crisis is to study what brought us here. Nigeria can consider issuing a N20trn bond to finance projects in railway, housing, and agriculture nationwide and create 5 million jobs within three years

The application of Keynesian, Friedman or any sort of economic model is not the fundamental issue as regards the Nigerian economy. Corruption awaits any policies or models that intend to reshape the state of the economy. Currently, Nigeria needs a rigorous social and institutional framework that would reset our mindsets. Aside from the foregoing, no policy or model can ever yield a positive result.

Mr Moghalu came up with a very comprehensive and analytical thesis of Nigeria's problem and some solutions. The greatest set- back Nigeria has, its inability to mobilize Nigerians who are one of the most confident and smartest people on earth both in the diaspora and domestic to help solve their problems, This has been as a result of the many tribal and religous differences in the make -up of Nigeria.. This could also be the greatest asset Nigeria have, but has never been utilized. Once Nigerians see themselves as a Nation instead of groups of selfish tribal and religous entities most of their problems will be solved.

Kingsley Maghalu is still taking us to IMF and Worldbank policy that destroyed Nigeria by taking $30B loan, he's not even talking about living wage that will develop economy. He said Nigeria should float the Naira again to build railway, housing and Agriculture, that's the problem, IMF loan is a big problem in Nigeria, where are all the money we got from IMF since 1960? He's not asking questions and he want to put us into more problem. Who are those investors? Same IMF white folks that are just here to cash out and make our people poorer When you see people speak English, you think they have sense Kingsley Maghalu is not aware that our problem is not wealth creation but distribution of wealth. We have enough money to go round but our criminal recycled politicians and elites in the society are stealing and storing them for nonsense. #WeCantContinueLikeThis

The talk about investors coming back to Nigeria should never exclude the issue of insecurity. Insecurity is the chief factor driving investors away from Nigeria and the continued drift towards accepting or allowing jihadist or a militant form of islam especially in most northern parts of Nigeria including ethnic tension. No investor will knowingly endanger his/her own live or the lives of their staff and operatives in this sorts of society. The lack of a stable electricity supply, good roads and quality health care services or pipe borne water is another issues of concern for the investors. Quite surprised that none of these crucial factors was addressed by the eminent professor Moghalu. Thank you Dr Reuben Abati, Rufai Oseni and Ayo for this insightful presentation.

Brilliant submission, another IMF loans being the top option confirms the immense problem Nigeria is in. You won’t get great loans from any lender if you don’t have income to back it up-if anything, it might be a predatory loan or one where the borrowers bears all the risk. This is all in hope that a small group of investors would see it as opportunity for quick cash, a case of “free in free out.”😢

Prof Muoghalu Kingsley bristles with wisdom. The type that is very uncommon. He is the type of person Nigeria needs at this point of national hopelessness in all fronts. There are a good number of such Nigerians gifted with very sound ideas and a practicable road map out of "this woods ". The issue is whether the government is amenable to advice. Does the government care about the woes of the country?. Are they committed to turning things around for the very deeply distressed citizens or are they non challant and rather looting from the already damaged economy.?

These submissions of Prof Kingsley is very sound. But the greatest asset that will attract investors is leadership. Who is the leader of the nation? No investor will have confidence in a leader whose vision is more political than nation building. As long as our leaders are fixated on sharing oil money as against boosting agriculture to export levels and manufacturing, the economy will be on this downward trend.

Tinubu did not do a good job in his cabinet choice! He decided to go the Buhari nepotic way. How can all your finance & economy ministers from your tribe? Obasanjo did and Yar dua did a good job of choosing a cabinet with competence and capacity!

We must get some experienced laurels who still have integrity intact, to bring out solutions and work things right in Nigeria . No nepotism,no godfatherism and no to inexperienced money- minded beings . Else ...welcome to hell on earth .

Nigeria is not larger than India, China, USA, etc. Nigeria is not too poor. What is happening to Nigeria is govt's insensitivity to Development. Why is Ajaokuta Steel not running? Why should Nigeria have only 3 cement factories? Why should Nigeria not have a working refinery? Population is not our problem, rather govt has failed to make use of its population. The youths that are majority are hunted by law enforcement agencies. Let's deliberately delve into agriculture to feed ourselves at least.

Just saw and would like to let you know that we seem to be building our castle in thin air. There’s nothing like structure in Nigeria. This is why it’s easy for them to swindle us. Most countries of the world operate data- driven systems whereby it is crystal clear to see the activities in the system except Nigeria. Until such a time when our systems are transparent and can be evidenced in actual numbers and not ‘manipulated’ that will be the time to analyze using relevant laws and theories to access the performance and validity of the economy. We are just being fed with abracadabra economic theories which have no simplest resemblance to the reality of our people.

Why is it that a country Nigeria, that is about 230 million in population is asking help from Germany, a country of about 75 million for investment? Retrospectively, what is in the heads of Germans that Nigerians lack? Are there other groups in Nigeria that have the enthusiasm to give a trial of what Germany is doing? If that exists, why not tap their talents?. But then the demise of a nation begins with a series of mistepps. Lift yourself by your bootstraps before begging other nations for help. Otherwise agitations by the 230 million people would create an explosive dismemberment.

In addition to my previous comment, I would recommend that the Nigerian Govt invest in building a Super Computer and develop A.I softwares that can be used to compute, simulate and proffer solution to these problems, because the problems of that country are complex. Thank God we can now utilize computational power to assist in thinking for us. That's my urgent recommendation to solving some of the major problems of Nigeria. To avoid all the scope creeps of biases and ageism.

One of the first goal of organization is to provide structure which eventually leads to accountability and responsibility. In that sense, the entity Nigeria should be decentralized, reconfigured and restructured through the constitution and a well thought out strategy/ plan on how to move various aspects of the economy forward. This will minimize corruption through accountability and responsibility, hence also contribute to the process of how we select our leaders. This is not magic, once we have leaders that have the will power and passion for vision the society progresses because we don’t have leaders that genuinely have passion for their own people. We have leaders that always seek medical treatment abroad and you expect them to be interested training our medical professionals. Now some foreigners are coming for treatment in Nigeria, this tells us that the challenge is leadership.

Rufai, we are lost and in this deep sea because of our constitution that the political elites don't want to change, because they're benefitting from the status quo. All these Oyinbo we not solve anything without changing that constitution, only putting these things in black & white that will effect the change we truly deserve. Like he said, governance must be brought back to the through resuscitating the LGs, which the state Governors have paralyzed totally. Nigeria must practice true federalism, give full autonomy to the Local governments. And make the chairman accountable to both the pple and the state governors, and the state governors accountable to the FG. Make all the 3 tiers and 3 arms of government to work independently. That's the only way we can move forward. A national referendum on our constitution must as a matter of urgency be conducted, and a new constitution must be drafted not the constitution handed down to us by military and selfish men that serves their selfish interests. We must all decide on how we want to be govern. But the political elites don't want that, and the revolution that's looming will likely consume all of them!! Shikenah!!!

Nepotism, religion and tribalism contributed mostly to this our problem. I remember when prof kingsly was appointmented by the late president Yara Dua for the deputy governor of the CBN..he did it without being tribal sentiment but for the sake of competent. Obasanjo did the same to okonjo iweala present govt should do the same to bring people like prof Kingsley to his govt to achieve a common goal irrespective of tribe or religion
