Nigel Farage: ‘I will stand in this election’ | SpectatorTV

He’s back. After all the teasing and all the rhetoric, Nigel Farage has finally announced his return as Reform leader. Having initially pledged that he would not stand at this election, he told a 100-strong room in Westminster: ‘I’ve changed my mind.’ He will now stand as Reform’s candidate in Clacton - the only seat Ukip ever won in a general election, back in 2015. ‘I cannot turn my back on the people’s army’ he said to the room. ‘I cannot turn my back on all those people who voted for us… I can’t let those people down, I won’t let those people down.’ Could his U-turn be deadly for the Tories?

I think Nigel always intended to stand. He's just done it this way to make the maximum "splash" and get the most media coverage. Also if you want people to really appreciate getting something, you first have to make them believe they're not going to get it.

Reading Nigel Celestial chart, Nigel could win with few hundred votes, coming from Conservative grassroots. Reform UK could take up to 12 MP with votes coming from Conservative grassroots. Conservatives down to less than 100 MP after Election, good news is Conservative Grassroots could betray Sunak by voting Reform, LibDem and Labour.

Al, all political minutiae. It smacked to me of the everyday activity of "the chattering class". There WAS no meaningful discussion about EVERYDAY CONCERNS OF NATIVE BRITONS, of immigration in particular. There was a somewhat contemptuous and superficial reference to Clacton: it's the very people there who have the concerns that have not, for decades, been addressed by either Tories or Labour.
